I purchased the $40 Colonoscopy Prep kit that Hillmont makes available. I then had to cancel the Colonoscopy because my Cardiologist required that I have the procedure at a hospital based facility. Hillmont is associated with Chestnut Hill Hospital where I have had unsatisfactory experiences so I went ahead and scheduled elsewhere. The kit is not returnable per Hillmont. The prep instructions for the hospital where I am having the procedure appear pretty much the same as Hillmont's. When I called Hillmont they refused to answer the few questions I had about the kit which would have helped me to decide whether to go ahead and use their prep kit. They insisted that since I cancelled the appointment there they would not answer any questions specific to the product they sold me. They also confirmed it could not be returned. My husband had a bad experience with the procedure. He aspirated badly. Follow by the staff was very poor.

Just awful. I woke up from a colonoscopy- I was soaked, the bed was soaked, the pillow was soaked. They had no idea why. I was completely hoarse and in terrible pain. The doctor tried to explain that can happen with endoscopy but the anesthesiologist told him I had a colonoscopy. I'm pretty strong but I left balling my eyes out. Would not recommend. read more

Wish this practice focused more on the impact of diet and it's effect on the GI tract. Too much of a focus on meds and not on lifestyle. Met with reluctance when I requested to be awake for my colonoscopy. I was awake for the first. Told by Dr.Samdani she does not "honor those requests" and will be given a GI who can. How is it less safe to have the patient awake when I'm guaranteed to walk out of there fine because I won't have anesthesia? read more

My visit was with Dr. Samdani which I waited seven weeks for. The office staff was great. When Dr. S entered the examination room she asked me, "What can I do for you?" I went there so that she could give me the results of my MRI. She had no folder, iPad and just looked at me. I asked her if she had read my MRI? She said yes. I happened to have brought my paper work with the report. I said, "will you please explain this to me?" I was doing her job. She was rude, unconcerned, uninformed and nasty. I left and called them and said I wasn't coming back. She needs to change professions. She obviously hates her job. read more

Deficient and non-responsive - the 'ambulatory center' where they have the affiliation for procedures is not bad with training and competent practitioners. I had a Nurse Ratched experience with the NA who did my consult. Really rude and perfunctory...quick answer that I needed a colonoscopy (which is their hammer for all things). I already knew I had an inguinal hernia requiring surgery and have an action plan for that. They provided a 'preparation kit' for the colonoscopy consisting of an oil (TX crude vs Italian olive) based chemical to clear my colon. It did not work, they said, despite causing intense pain and a full day of diarrhea. They charged me $500 upfront in advance of a procedure they said had to be 'aborted' (their language" because of failed preparation. The billing office was non-responsive...really indifferent. As a patient, the kind of 'medical intervention' that makes a reasonable person crazy. Finally, a thought for anyone - the 'preparation' caused me four full days of intense discomfort. So, $1,000s billed to insurance and a $500 personal payment for a procedure that was never performed/completed. Just insulting - not sure any other industry is quite permitted to operate in such a disdainful manner when it comes to customer care and service delivery. read more

I had a colonoscopy a month ago. The nurse and team were fine and did their jobs well. However, I am completely appalled that neither I or my PCP have received one word in writing about my results!!! WTF! No wonder this place gets such lousy reviews. I had to call and am waiting for a call back. Oh by the way I had polyps so it would really be helpful to hear about the biopsy! The doctors themselves seem fine, but making an appointment is nearly impossible. I got two notices to make a follow up appointment, but when I tried, I held twice for 20 minutes and when I hit the button for a callback, I was called back by someone who said she couldn't hear me, hung up and did not try again. Care facility staff is good. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same thing about the billing department. I've called multiple times to speak about a refund of monies that I paid for a procedure that was covered by my insurance. All I got was a 15 - 20 minute phone hold/wait and a phone hang-up after a message stating that I was first on the queue for speaking with an individual. Not only that...prior to the hang up, I was prompted to do a survey on how their service was. I wanted to say..."What service?". They do not even answer my calls? I left my phone number as well and there was no call back. They are good at taking your money prior to having your procedure done...after that, good luck with trying to reach them with something else. read more

I have no issues with the doctor who performed my colonoscopy (Dr. Boynton). My issues have to do with communication to and from the office, and obtaining results of a pathology report showing the results of a biopsy. On multiple occasions I was told that I would be called that day, and was never called. It is more than a week since the procedure and I still am not able to obtain the report and slides from the biopsy, even though they are needed by my oncologist. Also, Hillmont GI is not collected electronically to any of the hospital systems in my area. As a result it is not possible for medical information/records/reports to be provided by Hillmont GI electronically to any hospital or physician. They have to be physically delivered. This has resulted in substantial delay. Bottom line: I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND HILMONT GI FOR ANY MEDICAL PROCEDURE. read more

My experience with Hillmont GI was amazing! I needed to get a colonoscopy and was really nervous since it was my first one and I have a family history of colon cancer. I previously tried to schedule it at another practice and the scheduler was rude so I chose to look elsewhere. My mom is a patient at Hillmont GI and told me great things about the practice. I read the reviews and was a bit hesitant to call. However, I am sooo glad that I did! My call was answered on the first ring by Deneen. Deneen is the reason why I went through with getting my colonoscopy at Hilmont GI. She was very pleasant, upbeat and made me feel very comfortable. She assured me that I would be in good hands with the doctors, nurses and their staff and she was right! She allowed me to express my concerns and answered all of my questions. I had additional questions as time went on before my appointment and she never made me feel as if I was being bothersome or annoying. Prior to my appointment, I received several reminders, which I found to be very helpful. The staff at the surgery center was very kind and caring. The facility was clean. The young lady who took my temperature, vitals, etc. was very thorough. Alex, the Anesthesiologist, was personable, upbeat and made sure that I was comfortable. Dr. Boynton performed the procedure and was very kind and explained everything to me afterwards. Susan was the nurse who assisted me after the procedure. She was amazing, provided me with juice and a snack and took the time to explain the information included in my discharge papers. If you need a place where you can feel comfortable, receive great service and be treated well, choose Hillmont GI! read more

Disappointed. The doctor himself, seemed fine and knowledgeable and discussed a few options for my tests. However, the office staff is not exactly the friendliest and they have had my test results for almost 1 month and even after repeated weekly phone calls asking any of the doctors, nurses, PA's or NP's to call me back, still nothing. I'm just surprised that no one has even 5 minutes in the day to call their patients back. I asked if that was normal to wait so long and the lady said yes :( yikes! I've resorted to googling the meaning of my results to get some sort of answers, and made an appointment with Penn Radnor and even though I have to wait another month for an appointment, their staff already has been so much more helpful and friendly. read more

AGAIN: It's IMPOSSIBLE to get a live person when responding to MAILED NOTICES for a procedure! This morning I gave up after 20 Minutes. This afternoon, I waited 15 minutes listening to repetitive and anxiety raising piano music. The person (finally) answered with "What do you Want"? Then "Hung up" as I tried to explain I was responding to a "Notice for a Procedure". A third call resulted in a disconnect after 5 minutes. This experience gave me the flashback that this happened a few years ago when scheduling an previous procedure. Apparently, Hillmont GI puts NO Value on Customer's time. It's obvious to me that the office is UNDERSTAFFED for basic Customer Service. Are the Doctor's that greedy to not hire sufficient staff to support a dozen Doctors? Doctors are OK, I guess. Communication is horrible. I have called 5 times to get results of a biopsy without getting a return call. Other offices will call you with test results, but not Hillmont - you have to call them. And just try getting a person on the phone. I'd like to say the actual quality of Hillmont's care is fine...except I don't really know, because despite identifying issues during my (repeatedly rescheduled) screening that apparently warranted close monitoring, they didn't follow up with me until months later to try and schedule another appointment. Then many, *many* more months after telling me my lack of response to this "too little, too late" outreach would be the last I'd hear from them, they start leaving messages on a daily basis with no indication what I'm supposed to be calling them back about! Add their baffling decision to make me the go-between over insurance company payments, and you should really just save yourself the frustration and look elsewhere. read more

Not friendly, and not upfront about costs. The doctor was seemingly knowledgeable, but wasn't great to deal with. No biggie though... I'm there for a service and not to make friends. That being said, I scheduled a colonoscopy, and when I called a week before the procedure to find out the cost, they wouldn't tell me. They only said that someone would call me closer to the date of the procedure, but by then I wouldn't be able to cancel without incurring a cancellation fee. They weren't friendly on the phone, and totally unhelpful. I didn't need to know any insurance related things... just the raw cost of the procedure. She wouldn't give it to me! I don't think it's unreasonable to want to know the cost of a standard procedure like a colonoscopy. I'll be taking my business elsewhere as a result. read more

The receptionist is not friendly at all and not helpful when trying to schedule an appointment. She really should not be handling the phones as the first person you interact with. I called and tried to set up an appointment and she gave the shortest answers possible, as if she couldn't be bothered to help me schedule something. I had to ask 5-10 questions to try to find the next available appointment because she just told me "in August" or "next week" and wouldn't provide any times. Been a patient for close to a decade. If you are a few minutes late (10)you will be rescheduled, however if you wait 45 minutes that's not their concern. Last straw was a refill gone wrong. Called for a refill and they obliged but called in the wrong prescription. Wife picked it up unknowingly, now the pharmacy can't take it back as it has left the store(completely understandable). I had attempted to have the copay on my next visit waived/split, anything since it was no fault of mine. When my insurance/myself has literally been charged over 15K in visits and procedures and you can't admit/rectify a mistake of a mere $40.. Makes me wonder who wrote this. I did not find that Dr. Baily took her time with me, before or after the procedure. Then she told me it wasn't successful due to the prep. Went to a Dr. at Temple Univ. Hosp. Much more professional - more staff present, and the doctor took her time to talk with me before and after. This place is awful!!!!! The staff is rude and does not call back to make an appointment. After reading other reviews, I realize that it's not just me. When you call for an appointment, you are put on hold for 15 minutes, only to be "greeted" by the rudest person, who then transfers you to another line to make an appointment. My family has been with Hillmont for about 10 years. We have been very happy with the care we have received. Dr Taterka always took the time to explain everything and answer all our questions fully. After confirming with her that my ER doc spoke with the Hillmont doc, and that I am a current patient, with Drs& ER orders for an urgent appt, she told me she can get me in a month from now. On my birthday. She confirmed that fact too. An urgent appt A month from now - when I told her I have abdominal pain, had been to the ER, have orders, and needed an urgent appt. As a current patient. The customer service is terrible. I used their online portal to request an appointment and I did not hear anything for 5 days. Their website says 24 to 48 hours. I called their office and the woman who I spoke with was rude and not helpful. She was short with me and interrupted me multiple times. Customer service is atrocious! I have tried to schedule an appointment SEVEN times since March 9, 2018. I called three times. Once, the connection was bad so they hung up. Then I tried twice to make an appointment on their website using the Request an Appointment button. I received one email telling me they would get back to me. I called again twice and left my phone number in the queue. Never got a call back. so I tried for the third time to get an appointment using the website app. No response. This morning, I left them a Facebook Private Message leaving my phone number, email address. No response yet. Finally, I asked my doctor for another referral to some other place. If this is how Hillmont GI treats customers, I don't want them anywhere near my body. I will refuse any contact from them or accept any apologies. They may have the worlds best doctors, but their office staff and IT person should be fired. read more

This is very late in coming, apologies. I went to Hillmont GI for a colonoscopy a few years ago and I'm still getting over my trauma. The anesthesiologist did not give me enough propofol, and I was awake for the last 5 minutes of the procedure. The doctor was amazed that I was wide awake when he came in to see me, but when I told him what happened he didn't even comment. In addition, every time I went, I saw in the waiting room for close to an hour before being taken. Thankfully it is no longer the only game in town. I now go to The Center for GI Health and its associated Colonoscopy Center in Lansdale. What a difference! read more

Had a colonoscopy with Dr. Araya, and he was great. Very professional, likeable doctor. The incredible problem is trying to make an appointment, or ask a question about a referral, or just get anyone on the line to help you before your procedure. No one will pick up the phone. IFyou're lucky, they will call you back hours later. I had to go through this process again in order to get information for a referral. I specifically asked, is this all the information I need, and she said yes. I then go to my primary doc to get the referral only to find out I need a diagnosis code, so now I have another day's wait for someone to call me back. This is just not worth it. I had an excellent experience with my colonoscopy done by Dr. Boynton in the Flourtown, PA location. The people in the surgical center and the office were very helpful and nice and took lots of precautions against Covid. Dr. Boynton put me at ease right away when I got into the procedure room and gladly answered my questions afterwards. I highly recommend him! The only thing lacking was similar to what other people noted in their reviews - their phone service. I called multiple times to get info in advance of my procedure and got a recording for an unreasonable amount of time waiting for someone to pick up. I didn't have any complaints once I got a human being on the phone but there were two instances where I waited 20 minutes and finally gave up both times. Other times it was not as long but I did hang up a few times without waiting 20 minutes. Since this seems to be an ongoing problem, I am surprised it has not been addressed. read more

Had to make several calls to make sure all the referrals where done. 30 minutes on the phone. Had to call for results. An aide eventually called back. They don't necessarily call you. Seems like a cash cow. The doctors are professional and do a good job but I feel it is a real money maker for them. They use nurse anesthetists which is probably typical for a surgical center. read more

I'm not criticizing Hillmont's abilities but their bedside manners, follow through, and coordination is some of the worst I've ever seen. The experience of being a patient, getting an endoscopy, and trying to get answers to a follow up procedure was unpleasant and time consuming. I got the experience of a cattle being processed as this is just a money maker without the care. Even after mistakes they made in tracking my lab results and being promised compensation, after waiting 2 months for what should be 3 days, the head doctor renigged and would take no responsibility. Hillmont lack care and integrity... so much so that I feel I ought to warn other potential patients. Go else where. read more

It might seem unlikely to report that having a colonoscopy is a pleasant experience, but that was my experience with the terrific Dr Marie Bailey of Hillmont GI at the Springfield Ambulatory Surgery Center in Flourtown, PA. I can't recommend them enough...I am the type that avoids all medical procedures and faint at the slightest one, but they made this a "piece of cake". This team does many colonoscopies a day at this location every day, so are truly expert with the process. Unlike a hospital environment, it's quiet, professional, spotless and efficient - to the person, the staff was extremely knowledgable, friendly and considerate - everyone knew their role (washed their hands a lot - thank you!) and handed off with great care, and they clearly enjoy working together and with patients, which made me feel happy and relaxed. You are provided warm blankets when you arrive, a thorough (but not scary) explanation of the anesthesia and procedure, juice and crackers when you wake, more warm blankets while you sit in a comfy lounger and review the procedure with your doc, good educational materials on your outcomes and clear follow up instructions, then head home feeling refreshed (and a little happy) from the light anesthesia. There is really nothing to it but a little inconvenience with the prep which is quickly forgotten. My colonoscopy was preceded by the perfect physician office visit - this is how all doctor's appointments should be: no waiting, in and out quickly, friendly, supportive and helpful office staff. Dr Bailey was extremely thorough and approachable, took a lot of time with me and made sure that all the follow ups were scheduled and/or completed before I left (including blood work). I received complete instructions, both written and oral, and they checked to make sure I understood and invited me to call anytime with questions. When an opportunity to move up my procedure arose, they called me with several options. If you are over 50 and have been avoiding your colonoscopy, please don't hesitate to get this important procedure done with this group. You'll be glad you did, and wonder what you were so afraid of! read more
