I love Hillsboro Public Library! I'm an avid reader and have checked out many books over the years I've been a member! There's a section of Best Sellers that current popular books are available for check out. I've checked out some epic reads without having to wait. I like browsing the shelves and seeing staff picks placed on placards next to the book on the shelf. I've read many books that I wouldn't have read otherwise from the recommendations. I've recently started checking audio books and books on Kindle through the Libby app. I love it! I love that they do different events. I've taken my grandkids to family friendly events. Last week I had to check out the current artwork being displayed. I was mesmerized by the Warrior Women Portraits by Danyel Rogers. I received an email that there was an artist reception being put on for her. Many of the subjects of her photographs were in the audience. The reception was nicely done. I hope to make many future events! read more

So many others have mentioned the books, DVDs, library of things, Kanopy subscription, events and other elements that make it worthwhile to hold a library card here (the donuts aren't bad, either). But I can think of three reason off of the top of their catalog to keep going here: 1. Flamer by Mike Curato 2. Beyond Magenta: Transgender Teens Speak Out by Susan Kulkin 3. Heartstopper, by Alice Oseman You don't have to travel very far from Brookwood Parkway to find people who want these books taken out of kids' hands or incinerated just because they're unwilling to have conversation with their own children or unable to cope with what those conversations might mean. You don't have to pretend that it's only the burden of far-flung portions of the state to deal with those who'd prefer to ban books than discuss their context or meaning. In the library's backyard, there are folks with a friendly smile on their face and a cup of coffee to sell you who'd have each of these books removed expeditiously for specious reasons while outright slurring the people depicted within the pages. Granted, they call a lot of these same good folks neighbors, clergy, employees, family, and "friends" while taking their labor, payment, and tithes, but I guess letting people reach their own conclusions about their stories is the step they won't take. Well, many thanks to the Hillsboro Public Library for offering these books to anyone willing to read them. A library is often a first step along anyone's journey of self discovery (someone in the comments figured out they wanted to make horror movies, and started that walk here), and offering them the freedom to do so is a foundational portion of a public library's existence. Instead of closing that road, more of the library's neighbors should come along for the trip. read more

After 6 years of living in Hillsboro, I'm finally a Washington County library card holder and I must say, I wish I had gotten one sooner! There are so many perks that come along with being a library card holder, including access to all Washington country libraries, Libby which provides access to digital & audio books, and annual tickets to local attractions like museums and gardens. On this particular occasion my husband and I decided to walk around the pond/park for about 30 minutes before entering the library. Upon entry we were immediately greeted by a friendly volunteer and we perused the ground floor, looking at the bookshelves before heading upstairs to find a place where we could collaborate on our annual goals. Before finding a spot we encountered a young man who helped us get set up with our library cards. Then we found a place to sit and we got to work. I was pleasantly surprised to see so many people utilizing all the library amenities - computers, printers, study rooms and notary service. read more

tl;dr I absolutely adore this library. Fun fact: Did you know the Hillsboro Public Library was one of the first to have a Library of Things -- aka the friend you go to when you're all like "hmmmmmmm ok yeah let's have a fondue fountain ... popcorn maker ... i wanna try an instapot and maybe buy one ... need a cake pan just this once ... ugh maybe yeah pressure washer time but omg where on earth am i gonna get one" -- in the country!?!?! (Okay, but for reals, how do you review a library? I'll try?) The team members -- staff, volunteers and friends alike! -- are the heart and soul of this place, and they're absolutely wonderful. So patient, welcoming and always willing to help. (Yeah, librarians rock!) The Brookwood branch has some 90,000 titles, if I'm remembering correctly, and there's something for everyone from the Library of Things, preloaded audiobooks (earbuds available if you need 'em!), magazines (yeah no more New Yorker stacks in that one corner of your room omg), CDs (yeah!!), kanopy (streaming!) and books (print and e, a la Libby!), and I know I'm forgetting something : I really appreciate the tireless efforts when it comes to circulation and to strike that balance between having titles that are good ol' classics and new releases and discoveries. As if that wasn't cool enough, some other super rad amenities: a community room, conference rooms (ace that next interview!), quiet and study rooms, a cool kids section with a sensory-friendly room and toys that rotate monthly (eg a kitchen for the aspiring chef in your life to practice :,-) ) OH AND YEAH A MAKERSPACE you can come in and get all artsy and crafty like 3D printing, laminating, sewing AND GET THIS A TYPEWRITER among others. And then once you've got one-too-many things, definitely find tranquility by walking the path at the back of the library, where you'll meet some new duck friends. :-) OH I also love that you can place a hold from or return a title to any Washington County Co-op Library. We are closest to the little Bethany Library, and this is our other go-to. We tend to use Bethany for holds pick-ups, since its inventory is a lot smaller than Hillsboro's (and WCCLS will "deliver" whatever you order to your preferred branch), and come to Brookwood to let the kids browse around. Great selection for kids, taking up more than half of the bottom floor for picture books, graphic novels, gradeschool fiction, nonfiction, and YA. They've also restocked the play area, which was out of commission for a long time due to covid, and have a quiet room set up for sensory-sensitive folks. (Speaking of covid, hand sanitizing stations abound!) I love going thru the stacks upstairs to see what's available on my Goodreads list. There are computers and quiet work spaces (desks and rooms) up here too. Parking is never a problem, including lots of shaded spots. There's a permanent ballot box here. Also right next to the airport and duck pond, so your toddler really gets their money's worth each visit. read more

I spend every other weekend here, checking out non fiction books, board games, Nintendo games, and tools, kitchen gadgets, and so many more. I've never seen such a large "library of things" at another library before! There's also a makerspace upstairs with a glowforge (laser engraving), a silhouette cameo (cutouts, sticker maker), and 3 3d printers, sewing machines, fabric, yarn, ton of art supplies... You name it! The staff are all pretty chill and nice. There's study rooms you can reserve too. I love this library! read more

I, a sixteen-year-old have been going here for years. I enjoyed and loved the times I was able to study here properly but recently I have been constantly followed and harassed by older gentlemen. This library has started to be full of men asking and taking pictures of younger children (Including me), I no longer desire or find this place to be my safe space, which is dreading. Imagine my shock when I read that this library had "no books" in one of the lower-rated reviews. I've been going to this library since I was a young child, and this could really not be farther from the truth. I am shocked to see a comment like this, and definitely want it to be known that this library has an ABUNDANT amount of books. They are quite spread out, but I have always loved the fact that there are so many different sections to browse. Previously, when the library was only one floor, everything was squished together, and so I am so grateful that adequate donations were made to complete the renovation of the upstairs. Previously, one of the rooms upstairs was a quiet reading room. Unfortunately, that has changed, but I did love the truly quiet room where people are all reading - it definitely sets the tone, and was a great environment to "get away". For those who wish to study, there are study rooms that were previously available to "check out". I would definitely check in about the status of those right now, as I know there was a pause put on this due to COVID. Plenty of desks and seats are available, along with plenty of hand sanitizer stations as well :) Aside from the books and really friendly librarians, another big bonus of this library is the outside pond and walking path. I think that this may not be a requirement of a library, but once you have it, it should definitely be appreciated! Definitely watch out for the duck poop, but overall, I love studying/reading/and walking around this library! 100/10 recommendation! read more

As good as it gets! This library has a large inventory of books to borrow, and more! A popular definition of the word library is a building that has a collection of books, periodicals for people to read, borrow, or refer to. And, this library has that and more! Personally, I have walked out with 20+ different books to peruse on my own time. And, their online app and website work really well to reserve books online, in case they don't have the book you have on hand. THe Dawson Creek- shared Pond is really nice to walk through. I've also historically enjoyed checking out a board game through their library of things, and getting to try it out to see if it is a game worth buying or not. read more

This is a destination library. Even if you don't have any reason to, make the trip here. There doesn't seem to be anything it doesn't have. You can borrow books, audiobooks, comic books, magazines, movies, games, music, cookware, musical instruments, sports paraphernalia, various supplies and devices including a radon reader... Some of the top features: - Quick / easy check out - Copious amounts of sitting / reading / computer spaces - Quiet room for silent studying - Great WiFi - Incredible quality of light with views out the large windows I was hitting up this library every day for a couple weeks while studying for an exam recently, and really this space is unmatched. Entering this library, I could swear i had just stepped into the FUTURE! This place is beautifully sunny with glass walls for a very bright look. I had come here for their videogame rental options and there were SO many games. There's even tvs in the kids area where you can sit in comfy chairs and play. I was really happy to see they even had titles for the Playstation Vita and WiiU here, two pretty obscure systems. I would go to say they have a pretty expansive Playstation 4 selection according to their online catalog, but for security reasons, they do not keep these out on display; you'll have to ask them to get a specific title. Thankfully, I had added these on the online account to check out later so I had the list ready when they asked. The check out system was also a breeze, with barcode scanners near the entrance. The staff here was also very helpful in the process. read more

I can rent from a large selection of books to my phone or kindle reader, for 21 days, renew as many times, and read as many books as I want, all for free. They use the Libby app which is a brilliant e-book reader app. There are also audiobooks for each of the books in their collection. If you're unlike me and would like to actually leave the house and do in-person things, you'll find yourself in a clean, spacious, relaxed place with warm and helpful employees and you are welcome to spend time there. You can also rent movies, subscriptions to newspaper and learning websites, get your documents notarized, join the book club, use their computers, the list goes on, and you don't pay any money out of pocket for any of this. I can't think of any other single service that is as useful or people that are as awesome. read more

Very nice library. NOT a quiet place to study unless you go between 6-8 pm. During the day it's a "kids gone wild" kind of thing going on. Today, in the afternoon, I was trying to study in the conference room/study room area and three teenager had reserved one of the rooms. They were having a burping contest to see who could burp the longest. :-( The days are gone when you could go to the library for some peace and quiet time! read more

This may be the prettiest library I've seen yet in Oregon. The spacious library is surrounded by a nice small pond, trails, and open land that's just waiting for something spectacular to happen. I don't come to Hillsboro all that often because it's freaking far, but if I did, this would be my perfect studying spot. I love how the library has open windows for natural lighting and open scenery. The tables are well equipped with outlets and lights. There are so many tables that there probably wouldn't be a problem finding one. The aisles and books are well put and labeled with no eyesore that I could spot. read more

I think it's finally time I actually review this place, for real. Seeing how I come here at least once a week, volunteered here, and want to come here EVERY DAY OF MY LIFE. This, if you haven't figured it out yet, is the best library I've ever lived close to. Nothing disappoints. Before you even walk in you can get a show of watching the automatic sorting machine magically decide where your returns books need to go. Very fun to watch kids press their face against the glass, unless you're a window washer I guess. They have a donut shop right inside, so if you need a snack or cup of tea, no worries they've got you covered. They are constantly moving things around downstairs to try and make the library more accessible and easy to maneuver for guests. The staff is always very friendly and they are more than happy to help you find what you're looking for. I was lucky enough to volunteer here for 6 months before I got my full-time job and I loved every minute of it. I shelved books in the mornings before the library was open. Talk about peaceful. If you ever get the chance to volunteer here, do it! Back to the books, they have a great selection in this library and separate it well. Kids are in their own section, which is contained with walls to keep the little tots reigned in. Close to that is young readers and movies and music. Also downstairs you'll find young adult and large print over by a fireplace which is so cozy in the winter. Upstairs is everything else. Non-fiction, fiction, computers, quite reading room, newspapers, etc. And remember, you can always order books from other libraries to come here as well! Everywhere there are comfortable chairs and lots of them are positioned by the windows so you can enjoy the pond out back. The most unusual part for me originally, which I absolutely love, is the Library of Things. If you didn't know this already, the WCCLS has an awesome program where you can rent, you guessed it, things! Telescopes, croquet, film scanners, baking goods. The list goes on and on. They also have a 3D printer. I've rented a lot of cool things. They also have a great program schedule and random things to do. For instance, this last winter they had a knitting station set up where you could make a square for the quilt they were making. They had instructions on how to knit or crochet. So clever! The pond out back is great too. They always have ducks and in the winter it's overrun with geese and other fowl. We often find ourselves walking around it to get a bit of exercise after being in the library for a while. You can often see kids feeding the ducks, wedding photos being taken, and people riding their bikes. It's just all around awesome. All in all, BEST. LIBRARY. EVER. read more

I love passing by the nearby pond outside for walking Great selections, and open space inside for learning, with a downstairs coffee shop, and variety of books and DVDs I have always been going to Washington County libraries since I was young and usually go to Beaverton City, but this location seems a lot closer distance to my house I recently reprinted a new library card, and it was very easy to do upfront. I remember growing up I went through the Summer Reading program and just signed up my younger sibling whose in 2nd grade and doing this together... happy it's still going around. The newest library of WCCLS system, it's the bestest one! Big, bright & beautiful, you can spend hours inside. I usually don't though, the lines are non-existant, and the self-checkout machines are a breeze - but I always forget to bring my library card :( They semi-recently upgraded the return books too. It registers it as you enter it, so no worrying about whether they get your book on time if you're cutting it close. I don't know what's not to like! read more

Hillsboro is lucky to have such a great library! The recent expansion onto the second floor has been really great for this library. They now have more tables for you to sit and study, group study rooms, and larger conference rooms that you can reserve. The wifi here is great, and it's right next to a beautiful park so you can take a study break with a nice walk. The most helpful experience I've ever had. The librarian was extremely kind and cared about her job and helping people. She went out of her way to call around and find the book I wanted. I haven't had a library card since I was maybe 17....? I've lived on the westside for 7 years now and had no idea how cool the Washington County Library Cooperative was. My only regret is not getting a card sooner. Of the 16 (soon to be 17 with Aloha) library locations, this is my favorite. It's huge. It's filled with windows overlooking Dawson Creek park and all the ducks and geese. It's my favorite spot to go on my "work from home days" so I'm not tempted to sit and watch Netflix in my living room. It's a win for productivity! They don't just have books, they have an enormous selection of DVDs, they have items (popcorn machine, etc), they have passes to area attractions. And if you want something another library has, they'll transfer it. Turn it in at any location. Seriously the best library system ever. read more

This is a fantastic library, great book collection, AND they have audible books, the library of "things" for patrons to checkout - from Arduino kits to ukuleles to cake pans. The collection supports lifelong learning and creativity by providing the physical tools necessary to explore new areas of interest and learn new skills. Plus a fantastic kids book area where they have a great selection of children's books, also story times, games, so many different things. The library offers a "Maker Space" in which you can make about anything! Check it out!! read more

You can check out almost anything at this library! Aside from the usual, books and DVDs, you can also check out bake ware, board games, new release DVDs/blu rays, cotton candy machine, popcorn machine, tickets for museums, etc etc. The list is endless! I've only checked out books and DVDs at this point, but it's nice to know there are so many other options! This library is well funded, clean, well maintained and the staff is so friendly and helpful! In the back of the library is a really nice private park/lake. It's a really nice spot for a stroll, bike ride or catching pokemon! This is probably one of the best libraries I've ever been to! I love this library. It is a great place to study. They have large windows with desks lined along them which make it a very inviting place to sit and study. The view from the windows look out to a few duck ponds surrounded by trees and a walking path. The abundance of natural light in this building is wonderful, it makes for a great reading environment. In the past six months, I have learned to love the library again. Can we talk about the fact that you can get books for free? Not just books, but DVDs and Blu-Rays. Not just movies, but seasons of TV shows. I don't even have to go in and peruse the aisles (which, if I wanted to for movies, would still be awesome because they have SHELVES of them). I can just sign online, request everything I want, and then they send me an e-mail when the item is held for me. Yes, you need to wait sometimes for popular items. But, I just watched the first four seasons of True Blood without waiting at all (except for the DVDs to be shipped from another library), and I just have to be on a long holds list for the most recent season. Can we just stop for a minute and acknowledge how amazing this is? Books and TV seasons can be borrowed for 3 weeks. DVDs and Blu-Rays can be borrowed for a week. Because of this, and the fact that I usually tear through movies and books, I've been making a habit of just stopping by the library once a week to return everything and pick up my more recent holds (holds are only for 1 week). The timing works out really well, and if I make sure I always go on the same day of the week, it decreases my chances of turning something in late and getting a fine. When you go in to pick up your holds, they have some giant shelves in alphabetical order, and your media is there with a little receipt tag in it. You just find your name, grab, and check out. So, I use this Key Ring app on my phone so that I don't have to keep membership cards to places. Since I thought that would be fine, I tossed my library cards in favor of this digital version. Don't be like me! If you keep your actual library card, there are check-out kiosks that are like the self-service check-out machines at the grocery store. Otherwise, if you don't have a version of your library card that will scan, you have to wait in line at the librarian desk to check out. They also have a couple of little kiosks on the outside of the building at right in the entryway to return books. The nice thing about these is that they scan the book as you turn it in (it reminds me of an ATM), so your books gets checked in immediately. You can also request a receipt if you are paranoid about having proof that you actually turned your books in. It is much less scary than dropping your books in a hole in the wall hoping that nothing happens to them. If you're a fan of digital books on your iPhone or Kindle, the library also has a service called Library2go via the OverDrive app (for iProducts, at least). You can check out digital versions of books. The negative is that there are usually longer waiting lists for these versions of the books, and the selection is smaller than what is actually available at the library, but I've found a number of good books to read that way, and it's really convenient having it on your electronic device. Another bonus is that the books check themselves in after the borrowing period is up, so you can't accidentally get fined for turning them in late. One thing to note is that you have to change the borrowing period from 7 to 21 days in the settings as 7 is the default, and that is a really short period of time to borrow a book! When your hold comes due, the service e-mails you, and you have 72 hours to "borrow" the book. This library is HUGE, probably because it serves so many people. Every time I stop by it is crowded. I hadn't been to a public library since the one in my hometown when I was a kid and read constantly, so I was really surprised by the fact that you could even borrow movies at the library. If you want to watch something recent, the waiting list is always going to be super long, so it would be worth going to a redbox to pay $1 for, but if you want to watch something like Schindler's List and don't want to purchase it, the library is for you! If you haven't been to the library recently - GO! It is amazing. I highly recommend taking advantage of the online services to make your experience the best it can be. I honestly haven't explored the building much - I just bee-line to the holds, I might stop and look at the movies, and then I check out. I can't speak to any of the other services or programs that the library puts on, but considering the sheer number of people that are always there and the quality of their other services, I'm sure they are probably worth checking out. read more

As noted in my profile, I'm from Vegas originally. (shhhhhh don't tell the neighbors.) In Vegas, the libraries have sparse offerings. I'm a homeschool mom and when I couldn't get volumes such as Moby Dick, but I COULD get every season of Sex in the City on DVD, I figured the library that I grew up with, where you could peruse the aisles, sit with a beloved tome and just take in the enormity that you could never, in your lifetime, read each book in that building, was gone. Then I came to Hillsboro. The main library is not huge, but it is filled with (sit down...don't want your system to go into shock if you aren't from here) BOOKS. Books on shelves, books on carts, books, books, books. I went to the classic section and it was FULL. Wow. I love the checkout system. I hated waiting 15-30 minutes in Vegas to check out. If I can check out my groceries, it seemed to me I should be able to self check books...but the system was barely ever up. I note that they have some dvds and music cds, but by far it is not the majority of the library. There aren't empty rooms of nothing but art. If I want art, I'll go to a gallery! There are books. The selection is pretty even handed, I found conservative and liberal books. I found old favorites and those volumes just printed this month! This is a nice library system for a smaller town. Love this library so much. My kids and I ride our bikes to it when the weather is nice. I love the park/pond/paths around the library. The children's section has regular book readings and group activities. The little café in the library has great prices...the cheapest around! It's just an all-around great place to hang out. read more

Hillsboro has two of the most modern and user-friendly libraries around. The main branch is two-stories and has a very open feel to it. It should be due to the very larger floor-to-ceilings widows that make up the outside walls. Book selection is great. Movie selection is outstanding and there are plenty of terminals for user to access the online catalog or the internet. The auto-checkout system is very intuitive, too. read more

BIKE FIXIT STAND REVIEW: I rode about 6 miles to use the bike stand and tools and use the pump. They have a station there where you can work on your bike. It is located on the north side of the building by the bike racks. But the pump is missing the connector for the valve and there are also tools missing. Too bad someone messed it up for everyone else. It looks like they were ripped off by someone who had to have those tools you can get for a few dollars. Who services this, anyone know? The slot for books is on the building itself with a 5 min parking space. I love this library! It's always very busy but since I put my book order requests in online, I don't have to really look anything up when I get to the library. I just go and pick it up, and self check out. Easy peasy. The bottom floor seems to be the childrens area. There is a large room just for kids. The second floor seems to be for the adults or folk who want a quiet place to study. There are large windows that you can look out and see a beautiful walking path and a lake. read more

For a public library this is one of the best I've been in. It has an extensive DVD and CD collection plus a good cross section of books to borrow.
