On Saturday, I had an agenda. I had to complete my Continuing Education requirements to renew my Pharmacy Technician License and the mobile app is a nightmare so off to the Library. I didn't account for the mass of people however...it just took me a couple extra minutes to find a parking spot then I went in. The experience this time was considerably better. There was more noise than usual, but it was for a good reason. There was assisting going on...with many translators available that was helping people. There wasn't any DoorDash issues and the kids there were pretty well behaved. I was able to complete my task very quickly and efficiently and that was definitely a good thing. read more

I am not happy about what is happening at this library when it comes to discrimination towards people of color. I think the staff should call an emergency meeting and seriously review their treatment of their visitors. To have children running around screaming and have no one say anything to them. But!! your staff can go up to a woman of color and tell her to use the gross library headphones because hers are being too loud. Please that's ridiculous. Do better!! you guys are being funded by the communities tax dollars and we expect better behavior from your staff. read more

My Son and I hung out here a few days ago as he was showing me the town. Over 2 spacious floors, is high ceilings, great natural light and attractive woods. It's clean, well kept, and organized. The books shelves looked a little light, but this place rocks as a community gathering and study spot. It also has a very nice children's section and lots of plug-in opportunities for keeping one's electronics up and running. read more

You have every genre available to read, research, then DVD's and video games to rent. It has everything. Sadly, I do not have many safe spaces to go to work on my literary projects in Portland. I have experienced discrimination and targeting at this library. I had a staff worker target me and insist that I wear headphones even though my computer was barely heard by me and others I asked. There could have been an echo, but the condescending attitudes these librarians and staff have towards a Black Person is disturbing but at least not as bad as the ones where they call the police (guns) to have you removed for asking basic questions. I have contacted the main librarian so I can file a complaint, but like usual, they avoid that with "We have had DEI training", when it is painfully obvious they have not, but also DEI training doesn't equate to anti-racism which is why I experience racism there. I am still waiting on the link or form to fill out so I can file a complaint. It has been around 6 months. Sadly the days of quiet and using inside voices are long gone from the library. This library allows parents to bring their loud and disrespectful kids to let off their energy as if this was an amusement park. Not to mention, while I am being harassed about my soft inside voice, they have kids running around screaming with their parents having a blast chasing them around the upstairs section of the library where many are trying to work, read or just escape the chaos. Sometimes it feels very intentional when I am in the corner spot and a library staff slams the doors and uses an elevated voice when speaking to someone next to them. It appears after seeing me, a Black Person, working and minding my business, they then raise their voice while looking at me to see if I am going to respond. Of course this is an example of a racial micro-aggression, and they will gaslight me into believing that it didn't happen, but it did and will continue. So if you are Black, I would strongly advise you stay clear of this library. It really isn't a library, its more like an amusement park with books where quiet is not valued. Looking at their book selection, they lack in diversity and appear to only appeal to whiteness and provide comfort. read more

I love this library, and it's a go-to place for my kids. This particular branch is especially impressive, with its spacious two-story layout. The interior design is stunning, featuring a wooden finish and high ceilings that create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Everything is incredibly well-organized, and the staff is always friendly and helpful. The library has extensive resources, from books to music CDs, DVDs/Blu-rays, and even video games. There are also large meeting rooms available, along with study rooms and a computer area upstairs. For children, the library offers a dedicated area with storytime rooms where staff read to the kids. The children's restroom is also well-maintained, which is a big plus. What really stands out are the numerous activities for kids, like "Messy Art" (which involves blow painting) and "Truck Day," where children can experience fire trucks and meet firefighters. Make sure to check their website or the events wall section for more details on these activities. The library also has plenty of self-help computer stations and a lot of open seating and desks on the second floor. Update: since they got a permanent storyteller, my rating has gone down. The new lady doesn't really like young children and has all kinds of "rules" like don't come within three feet of me (because I might bump/hit you by mistake), if the toddler is emotional, take them out till they calm down, don't let you toddler run around while I'm reading or leading group, we start after I am ready and end in 15-20 minutes (never said but always done), you can't wait in here for the next session, you have to go out and wait till I'm ready to start again. How do you expect 1-2 years olds to do this and enjoy this group? Bring the subs back! They loved the kids and made the story time fun! I feel like the permanent lady is just doing this for the paycheck! read more

Sometimes you forget that there are 2 Beaverton library branches... This one is a 2 story layout with so much to browse! The books on hold section is off to the side which was co fusing the first time as it is behind the info desks and off to the side. The upstairs is divided into computers, teen room, world languages room, and tables for individuals and groups. During the weekend, it seemed like the tables and seating went fast and today Sunday late afternoon, there were vacant spots here and there. The staff is knowledgeable and able to help quickly and efficiently. Many community events and workshops displayed with signs out front and around the library(also on their social media) Volunteer opportunities available as well. Upstairs there seems to be a resource area for those where english is a second language and those seeking employment. The only suggestions would be to have study rooms that are able to be reserved like the Hillsboro Library as it would help with seating and also more programs for adults in their 20's as either events are for children, teens, or senior adults from what I have seen. read more

It is hard to beet a good library. This one is just that nice, It is laid out on two floors. So many books, movies, cos... What a great place. I came to drop off my ballot. That was easy the box was up front. Across the street in the park, farmers market was running. That was nice. then just looking around at all that they have to offer. While here I finally got around to signing up for a Washington County library card. Now I don't have to go to Portland every time I want to check something out! It was fast and easy. This is a great library. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. It is right next to the park so during the summers i can pickup my books and stop by the farmers market. They have plenty of parking and the best thing is that i can reserve and renew books online. The only books i have been buying lately are for gifts. Everything else i get here. This is a beautiful library with high ceilings and tons of space. Children's books are located on the main floor, while adult novels are located upstairs. Books are always neat and orderly on the shelves and staff appear friendly. The checkout stations near the front do get kind of swamped at times, so you might be waiting if you come at a busy time. If you're lucky she will stay in her office the whole time and you won't have to interact. Stop by here if you want to be followed around by a ridiculous rude power high old lady that won't let your kids check out books if your fines are a penny over the limit. Every other Library in town does not adhere to this rule- just Beaverton city because of Laurie. She lies and acts like she doesn't have the power to be kind and click a button like every other librarian in town, so she can make sure your kids cry all the way home because they couldn't check out their books. Easy to find, centrally located and a fair amount of parking available. This library has always been tidy, clean and organized. The staff has been very helpful each time I've had a question. The building has some great usage of wood architecture. A lot of natural light with many windows. And today I just noticed they have an array of solar panels as well. As a First grader, I went to the library to borrow books to read. As an adolescent, I started to borrow some books, but also movies (when VHS was still used). As a teenager, I don't even remember where my library card went. I had a falling out with the library. As I was in college for undergrad, I was reacquainted with the library, spending time procrastinating, cramming and sometimes sleeping. As a grad student, I also crammed (and procrastinated) in the library with study buddies. I have not gone to the Beaverton City Library until I moved to Oregon. My time spent here was during grad school. This lovely facility is well maintained by a friendly librarians. The library is well equipped for those who need computer outlets. There are also group tables to study. What's really nice about this place is that they have a "quiet room" so you can study in pure silence. My only gripes about libraries is that you can't eat! I feel that you need energy to study, therefore snacking should be allowed. I would highly recommend Beaverton City Library because it's very clean and modern. They have a parking lot across the street and the Saturday Farmer's Market is adjacent to the building. "Checkout" a book (or not) at this library if you're in Central Beaverton! My fiance and I visited her for a Naturalization Oath Ceremony. The library was easy to find and located in a quiet little neighborhood. The parking lot was very spacious with plenty of room. The grass, trees and shrubs were well tended to and maintained. The building is huge with 3 stories. The bottle has conference rooms and an auditorium and the second and first floor made up of the library. The interior has high ceilings and big wood beams. It has a very modern feel to it as we were exploring upstairs. Calling the place big is an understatement. There were a lot of computer stations and plenty of workers at specific locations ready to render assistance. We both loved our visit and highly recommend you come visit this location. read more

This is a great library! 2 stories, gorgeous woodwork, vaulted ceilings, clean-ish bathrooms, fully stocked with Audiobooks, Movies, CDs, Console Games, Large Print Books, Children's Books, New Books, Recommended Books, Fiction, NonFiction, Newspapers, Magazines, Periodicals, Reference Books, Manga, lots of Bulletins for Jobs, Citizenship information, Community Newsletters, Book Clubs, Seminars; Meeting Rooms, Copy and Print Machines, Help Desk, Computers with Internet Access, Free WiFi, tons of Parking and my very favorite part: Self Checkout machines! They're so easy to use. I just pick out my books, put them in my tote, and when I go to check out all I have to do is scan my card, enter my pin, put my entire tote bag full of books directly on the gray square and it checks everything out for me in one fell swoop! Technology, right? It's amazing! All the other ones I've used you have to scan each book one by one and wait for the admittedly satisfying -Clunk- noise, but this one just saves time and is kind of like a magic trick to my little dinosaur self. Once you finish checking out all your books you have the option of printing your receipt, emailing your receipt or No receipt. I like the email option because it saves paper but I still need to know when my books are due. What is also convenient is access to all the other libraries that you can use in the network, and also the even more convenient website http://www.wccls.org/ where you can double check due dates, set email reminders, see what you have out, and Search books and put them On Hold- This feature is awesome because I like to write down book recommendations in my phone, and when I'm just about ready for a new book I simply search it in the catalog and request the book if they have it at ANY of their libraries. Depending on the waitlist, you can get the book as soon as a few days later! You will get an email notifying you the book is available and they will hold it for you at the library of your choice for about a week. This is perfect when you don't have time to browse; you can just go in and pick up your books, easy peasy. By books I also mean any of their other media as well. read more

It's a beautiful building, but not very friendly to adults. When I came here looking for a quiet place to study, most of the study carols where you can plug in your laptop were full. However, when I entered the massive "teen room" and saw an empty table with outlets, the flakey hippie librarian told me I couldn't plug in. I told her I needed a place to study, and that I would be happy to move if any teenagers showed up (and they would have to be skipping school to be there anyway, at 12:45 on a weekday). She informed me that wasn't possible because it was "a sacred space" (not kidding). What I don't understand is why teenagers are allowed to use the other study carols where I could potentially set up, but I am not allowed to use the "sacred room" when no one is in it but one or two kids? That's incredibly elitist and obnoxious. Granted, I certainly have no wish to interfere with the rights of those who are engaging in the important business of playing Baby Thumb Suck Candy Facebook Game, beat boxing to angsty hip hop, or giggling whilst showing their friend their new favorite porn video. I will certainly not be so elitist as to suggest that these intellectual pursuits aren't the exact reason why public libraries were invented. If Benjamin Franklin was here beside me, you can bet he'd say the same thing. All I needed was one, 1x1 square foot of table space, an outlet and wifi so I could partake in the far more useless and degraded pastime of trying to study for my therapy license--admittedly, a wasteful effort that will ultimately benefit no one. The ghost of Ben Franklin is sitting next to me nodding vigorously, as he downloads bit torrents of several Steven Segal movies simultaneously. Way to multitask, Ben. I think Moonbeam the Librarian should get off her duff and roust all the wayward teens out of every other place in the library and herd them all into the Sacred Teen Room. I think she should be required to make regular patrols, because, if you're going to be a tyrant to one person, then you should have to be a tyrant to everyone. Then, I think every other age group should be given a designated "sacred space" because obviously, there is no possibility that different age groups could commingle without grievous difficulties arising. Indeed, we all need to be separated for our own good. "Oh, I'm sorry ma'am, I didn't realize this was the Middle Age Room, could you please direct me to the Gen X Corner? Oops, is the the Millennial Cave? I'm looking for the Greatest Generation Garage? Oh, never mind, I guess I need the Quarter Life Corner." Is this concept beginning to sound ridiculous yet??? I don't care where I set up, but this is a huge library, and as I tried to study for my board exams, there were gaggles of dirty teens who were painfully ripe with the malodorous scent of unwashed feet, BO and marijuana laughing loudly and playing infantile games on their phones. Is it wrong of me to dare to suggest that what I was doing was more "library appropriate" than what they were doing??? Maybe if I prayed, burned incense, sang a hymn, or prostrated myself and did some sort of hand washing ritual I could be deemed holy enough to enter this Divine Temple of the Teen? Apparently, the teen room isn't sacred enough for the teens elsewhere in the library to want to use it. I suggest that Moonbeam the Librarian look up the definition of "irony" and try using it in a sentence. I can help her out with a real-world example. I suggest that they burn some incense and place a sign that says "namaste school skipping teen" over the entrance so that wayward youths understand how sacred their special space is. I also think they should put down prayer mats, since apparently this is a religious library. While they're at it, they should fire the spaced-out, hippie librarian, as that is a secular role. They should replace Moonbeam with a priest or priestess or some sort of guru. I know several who would be happy to apply. read more

I just had my first visit here and was really impressed. This is one of those places that makes you feel proud your tax dollars are going towards. It is well kept, modern, well-stocked, had helpful librarians, lots of computers and is an overall excellent library. From what I can tell the parking lot is a little skimpy though and their two elevators are super tiny. I could barely fit myself and my baby's stroller in there! They have lots of cool programs for the community that are free, especially for children in the summer. If I were in college this would be a good study place for me to go for sure. Being very close to about three libraries, this one is now gonna be my first choice. read more

If something is unclear they are quick to "clear it up"! LoL. They have so many movies and CD's, and if they don't have it readily handy, they order it in so you can go back to pick it up. Dear residents of Portland: put down your Multnomah County Library card right now, and sign up with the Beaverton City Library or the nearest Washington County branch (MultCo residents can get a card, no special arrangement necessary). You will be so glad you did. I'm almost hesitant to rhapsodize about how great this library/library system is, in fear that it will become indundated with users. Because you see, Yelpers, its apparent lack of patrons is its greatest strength. The Multnomah libraries are great, don't get me wrong. I know they win crazy awards. But because of this, snagging a copy of a desired book or being able to browse DVDs is damn near impossible. In the WashCo library system, it's a breeze (or at least significantly easier and faster). Let's crunch some numbers: - Would you like to read the newly released novel "Super Sad True Love Story?" Now obviously, being brand-new, you should expect a bit of a wait. In the WashCo system, there's 126 holds on 21 copies. Eek! But that's nothing compared to MultCo: 452 holds on 57 copies! The math works out that each copy would have to circulate about 6 times at WashCo and 8 times at MultCo before it got to you. I know where I'm placing my bets. - How about something older - let's say the Pulitzer Prize-winning bestseller from 2008, "The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao"? Both library systems have copies available, but WashCo has 9 out of 24 compared to MultCo's 8 out of 43 - almost double the stock percentage-wise, much better odds. - And how about a movie? MultCo has one hold on the first returned of their 20 copies of "Unforgiven." At WashCo, you can walk in and get it right now. On Blu-ray. Ultimately, MultCo may have more stuff, but WashCo has much more AVAILABLE. The Beaverton library has a massive shelf of DVDs that's always stuffed to the gills, plus a small Blu-ray section (good luck finding more than a handful of DVDs in stock at any MultCo library!). Same goes for books - there's just always more THERE. Plus, I personally find the Beaverton library more aesthetically pleasing than the Central Library in PDX. So if you're a fan of short waits and actually browsing libraries instead of putting in dozens of holds, then I'm fairly confident that this is the one for you. read more

The library offers over 340,000 items for check-out including books, magazines, maps, DVDs, Blu-ray, videogames, and CDs while providing almost 2,000 programs a year for all age groups and interests. Beaverton City Library is proud to serve its diverse community, collecting materials and offering programs in multiple languages; library volunteers hail from over 35 countries. The library provides access to approximately 40 computers for public use, a typewriter, and a fax machine to send local and toll-free faxes. The library contains several large meeting rooms and a 150 seat auditorium for public use that are managed by the City of Beaverton. The Beaverton City Library serves Beaverton, Oregon, and is part of the Washington County Cooperative Library Services. History The library was established in 1938, encouraged by the Kiwanis Club. The city took over operations in 1940. In 1958, the library moved into its first new facility, located at 5th Street and Hall Boulevard. It moved to Hall Street Station in 1980, then to a former Albertson's grocery store at Allen and Hall Boulevards in 1984. In 1998, voters approved the construction of a new facility at Fifth Avenue and Hall Boulevard. The library moved into its new space in September 2000.[1] According to Oregon Geographic Names, Beaverton got its name because of the settlement's proximity to a large body of water resulting from beaver dams. Native Americans The area of Tualatin Valley which became Beaverton was originally the home of a Native American tribe known as the Atfalati, which settlers mispronounced as Tualatin. The Atfalati population dwindled in the latter part of the 18th century, and the prosperous tribe was no longer dominant in the area by the 19th century when settlers arrived.[10] 19th century Early settlers The natives had a village called Chakeipi, meaning Place of the Beaver, and early settlers referred to it as "Beaverdam". Early settlers include the Hall Family from Kentucky, the Denneys who lived on their claim near present-day Scholls Ferry Road and Hall Blvd, and Orin S. Allen, from western New York.[10] Lawrence Hall purchased 640 acres (2.6 km2) in Beaverdam in 1847 and built a grist mill with his brother near present-day Walker Road.[10] His was the first land claim in the area. He was soon followed by Thomas Denney in 1848, who came to the area and built its first sawmill. In 1860, a toll plank road from Portland to Beaverton was completed over a trail called Canyon Road.[10] Beginning of the town After the American Civil War, numerous other settlers, including Joshua Welch, George Betts, Charles Angel, W. P. Watson, and John Henry, laid out what is now known as Beaverton hoping they could bring a railroad to an area once described as, "mostly swamps & marshes connected by beaver dams to create what looked like a huge lake." In 1872, Beaverton's first post office opened in a general store operated by Betts, who also served as the first postmaster of the community. Betts Street, where the current post office now stands, is named in honor of him. In 1893, Beaverton, which by that time had a population of 400, was officially incorporated. Alonzo Cady, a local businessman, served as the first mayor. Many major roads in Beaverton are named for these early settlers. 20th century Automobile dealerships Beaverton was an early home to automobile dealerships. A Ford Motor Company dealership was established there in 1915; it was purchased by Guy Carr in 1923 and over the years Carr expanded it into several locations throughout Beaverton. There are still several dealerships near the intersection of Walker and Canyon Roads. Movies and airplanes In the early 1920s, Beaverton was home to Premium Picture Productions, a movie studio which produced about fifteen films. The studio site was later converted into Watt's Field and associated aircraft manufacturing facilities. A second Beaverton airport, Bernard's Airport, was later developed farther north, at the present location of the Cedar Hills Crossing mall. Library The town's first library opened in 1925. I am definitely a fan. I go to Beaverton library for movies and cds mostly. Though it's great for books too. When Blockbuster closed, I had to find a new way to get my movie fix without cable or breaking the bank. I also have resisted the iTunes craze and I don't have the funds to buy every album as soon as it comes out....Enter Beaverton Library. I check out hoards and hoards of movies and cds. I think the limit is 25 at a time?! 7 day checkout on movies and 21 days for cds and dvd series. Sometimes I go and comb the shelves and just pick anything that looks interesting. If it's no good, who cares, I'm out nothing. They have a great selection of mainstream dvds (some blu rays) and cds. I have even better luck with their online request and hold system. They will transfer any requested item from any library in the WA county cooperative and put it on a little shelf with your name on it. Self Serve Hold Pickup and Self Checkout. A very nice library with a huge selection of books, mixed media, and games! There's a help desk right when you walk in and self check out stations too! The best part is you can set the entire stack of books down and it will check them all out instantly instead of you having to scan them one by one. So fancy! When you walk up the stairs to the second floor, it feels like you're in a museum. There's just a strong and important presence about this place. The second floor is how! The staff has been very friendly each time I asked for help and their layout makes it easy to find and browse for books! I'm glad to call this my local library! read more

My biggest problem with this library is not enough bathrooms, and the fact that they rarely have an entire series. While a prolific reader, granted one who is slowing down in his ancient age, I simply can not keep up on my "to read" list. And I hate with a passion starting in the middle of a series of books. How lost are you going be? Very! Other then that I've had great experiences here. They were able to get me an copy of an extremely expensive reference book that I needed and could not find anywhere at all. LOVE IT! One of the best public libraries I have encountered. It is beautiful on the inside and at a great location.

Smack dab in Beaverton, this library is off the rocks good. They've been adding more computers over the years and increased programs (at least ones I've been interested in). The cooking and craft section of books have lots, as well as a nice international/multi-language section that my parents adore. Only request? Private desks or tables that are out of the way in quiet sections. read more

As a self proclaimed nerd, I feel somewhat qualified to accurately judge what is a good study spot and what isn't. Beaverton Library has an abundance of tables, good lighting, and free wifi all in a peaceful environment. Qualities that are essential for any nerd to get their study on. read more

I've been a loyal patron since they were in the old building on Allen Blvd and since 1993! I was 7 years old when I opened my first library card! I remember going twice a week and checking out the limit each time until I had read everything in the children's and young adult section. The librarians would spot me when I walked in and show me what was new so I could check those out, plus old favorites. The new building is nice but they could still use some updates. As far as libraries go, one of the better ones! Not all the librarians are as nice anymore though so even though my memories are really lovely, the current state has me knocking off 2 stars. I get random late fees for things I've never checked out and I've paid the same fee of $20 for something I never checked out over and over (because I figure it's like donating to a good place) but it keeps reappearing in my account anyway! read more
