It's ok. Not real nice but it serves its purpose. It's ok in the summer for boating I don't know if…read moreI would recommend swimming

This is a nice little lake just outside of Paola. I would probably call it more of a recreational…read morelake because of the lack of trees and a lot of large open areas. There is a boat dock, a swimming area, camping sites, shelters, and playgrounds. Fishing is allowed and based on some of the splashes I heard as I waited for fireworks, there appears to be some decent fish in the lake. Lake Miola is also the location of the annual 4th of July fireworks show for the city. The city puts on a decent display with both air and ground fireworks although it could improve by shooting the fireworks in a larger area instead of all at the same location (various heights) in the sky. Also this is more a Paola thing, or honestly a thing you encounter everywhere, but last nights experience was impacted by a jerk officer. Now before I become the top candidate on a list to pull over for no reasons, I am a huge supporter of our police forces. They do a job that many would not do and should be respected. There are bad ones, but the majority are the type of heroes our children should look up to! With that being said, just because you have an attitude or John Wayne syndrome or what ever, don't be a killjoy. One officer was harassing people about where they were parking, even though there were not any no parking signs and other officers were allowing people to park in these areas.

If you have a hankering for getting out into the wilderness of the world, the second best option to…read moreBear country would be Middle Creek lake. Save for the select few creeper vans loitering in the six or so camping spots, this place is wild. Metcalf avenue literally goes through the center of this lake! As you're driving down medcalf you can see the road go into the water and you can see the other side of the road on the other side of the lake! It has unbelievable bass fishing, it's a bit Rocky on the western part of the lake, so take note. Very shallow on the eastern part of the lake, great for crappie and bluegill. I go to Middle Creek regularly for fall and winter day camps. We go out there and make a fire and go catfishing all day long, have a little picnic. It's very secluded and intimate. I've been there dozens of times, once I went out there and seasoned a hammer-forged wok over a roaring camp fire. Careful of the hackberry trees and there massive thorns that happened to me everywhere, but the park service does a pretty good job of keeping this place tidy. There is however a bunch people that go out there with lots of trash and throw it in the fireplace right before they leave so, sometimes you have quite a bit of trash to pick out because who the hell burns garbage? But fishing is great on this lake, and if you have a fish finder and go out by Metcalf you can actually detect the road under the water and on either side there's so many species of fish that it's worth a days travels! The boat ramp is all gravel and dirt, so there's that. Still good though. Happy fishing!
