Save for the select few creeper vans loitering in the six or so camping spots, this place is wild. Metcalf avenue literally goes through the center of this lake! As you're driving down medcalf you can see the road go into the water and you can see the other side of the road on the other side of the lake! It has unbelievable bass fishing, it's a bit Rocky on the western part of the lake, so take note. Very shallow on the eastern part of the lake, great for crappie and bluegill. I go to Middle Creek regularly for fall and winter day camps. We go out there and make a fire and go catfishing all day long, have a little picnic. It's very secluded and intimate. I've been there dozens of times, once I went out there and seasoned a hammer-forged wok over a roaring camp fire. Careful of the hackberry trees and there massive thorns that happened to me everywhere, but the park service does a pretty good job of keeping this place tidy. There is however a bunch people that go out there with lots of trash and throw it in the fireplace right before they leave so, sometimes you have quite a bit of trash to pick out because who the hell burns garbage? But fishing is great on this lake, and if you have a fish finder and go out by Metcalf you can actually detect the road under the water and on either side there's so many species of fish that it's worth a days travels! My nephews were getting bored as were all the other little kids. We were late for another engagement, so walked toward the exit. One of the female volunteers yelled at us and said we couldn't leave, which was ridiculous and she yelled at another volunteer who was being nice to us, Josh. It seems pretty equipped with all the gears one would need to have scuba lessons and the instructors really know their stuff. The restrooms and changing areas are clean and there is also a galley kitchen and conference room to hold teaching classes. Also, you should stop by their shop to purchase a few accessories for your next diving trip. This place has a little bit of everything!
