This was one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had. When we arrived, we immediately noticed that the property looked nothing like the photos advertised on Expedia. The building appeared run-down, with sections of the roof removed, but we decided to give it a chance. At check-in, I was surprised to be charged a security deposit that was nearly as much as the cost of the stay. We were also informed that extra blankets, pillows, and other basic amenities would require additional fees. Unfortunately, the room itself was unacceptable. It had a strong, unpleasant odor, visible dust, fingerprints on multiple surfaces, and insects throughout the room. Behind the refrigerator, we found old food that had clearly been there for a long time. In fact, I later noticed that a review from several months ago showed the exact same food in the same location, suggesting it had never been cleaned. The bed sheets were stained and appeared dirty, and the mattress was so hard that it was nearly impossible to get a good night's sleep. The air conditioning worked only intermittently, making the room uncomfortable. Our window overlooked piles of roofing materials, which reflected the ongoing state of disrepair. To make matters worse, the electronic key card system repeatedly failed, leaving us locked out of the building and forcing us to walk around the property to find another way inside. The hot tub was also filthy and clearly not being maintained. Overall, this hotel was dirty, poorly maintained, and far below the standard advertised. I would not recommend staying here and would strongly encourage others to consider a different property. read more

Had been traveling for work & stayed here. Got bitten up by bedbugs, showed the front desk employee. Requesting for the manager the employee claimed, "we have no manager". On the counter there was a card with "General Manger", with the hotel name on it Hillside Inn. After calling the two numbers was greeted with a disconnected/ out of service number. And the second number being an insurance company. The employee had wiped the headboard before i could show them where i had found the bugs. Pointing out the smashed bug on the wall, the employee had refused to look at the dead bug. They had kept denying there was no bugs yet, had found one on the bottom of the headboard. Plus there was bedbug poop all over the headboard woods. Topping it off with the employee being very rude saying, "Don't ever come back!". Smh read more

Pagosa spring is known as famous "Mother Spring" and they took full advantage of the healing benefits of the water. yes ! we love pagosa spring but Not this Hotel. if i would to select my rating would be double 00 . 1. friendly staff- nope ! they are after with your money you might think you get what you paid for but, common !!! take some consideration! got here so tired from the long drive , we were looking forward to explore the hotsprings downtown so we decided to take some dip and explore the hots springs thinking ohh , we can take some towels with us , after we went to the The Hippy Dip Downtown, we also decided to go soak in this hotel jacuzzi before we take a shower . there were 4 of us there was only 3 towels inside our bedroom. so , i asked for towels on the phone with someone in front desk , then the guy on the phone answered "you would have to come to the front desk as i'm the only one here " ok , i truly understand.... moving forward i went to the front desk the "old man " asked me what's the towel for???? i said ohh we went to soak in the hotsprings and took the towels with us , he then told me were not supposed to take their towels outside as they need now more towels to wash????? i was like ???? wtfff!!! i left the front desk in my beast mode and told him he can charge me anytime!!! with the fancy towels !!! 2. cleanliness- nope!!!!! please see pictures there's more of that i didnt take (i'll take the consideration that this hotel is renovated) 3. Peace and patience - costumers ! before you book in this hotel make sure to ask a room with no dogs next to your room. imagine you were so tired you came here to relax and explore the town . but, dogs barking in the middle of the night wtf! we knew the door sign says no dogs allowed on where we were but !!! no , i have no patience i just want to rest and have peace in my sleep . to top it all we did not sleep at all . we were only hoping on that night for at least a staff would come and check the dogs or at least say something about it. read more

From the highway, this hotel looked inviting to a tired traveler on a dark night. I didn't read any reviews (there are some bad ones) because I was traveling solo and just wanted to get off the road. I got the last room, and I felt grateful for that. I noticed the room had a peculiar odor as soon a I got in the room. Smelled like a combination of bleach and wood smoke. But it was the last room and I thought I'd have to endure. When I pulled down the covers, I noticed right away that there was a hole in the bottom sheet. I've never seen that in a hotel before. I felt over a barrel and got into bed. I slept for a while, but I couldn't rest, however. It wasn't until I was already in bed for awhile that I took a good look at the sheets and saw how dirty they were. And pilled. I honestly have never seen sheets anywhere in this condition. I still tried to endure, but then I began coughing and couldn't stop.The smell in the room was getting to me. I'm certain I was disturbing my neighbors on either side. I decided to vacate the room. I didn't want to take any chances with whatever the odor was. I'm an older adult and value my health. I stopped at the front desk but there was no one there. There was a sign of some sort; I don't remember what it said. Something about being gone from the desk. I just went to my car. It was near 1 or 2 am and I didn't feel it was wise to drive alone over Wolf Creek Pass at that time of night, so I slept in my car. Luckily I had a blanket, because it was September and getting cold at night. Still, I started the car occasionally, when I got too cold. This was a horribly uncomfortable night for me. When it started getting light, I decided to leave, and headed on my way home. I got 3 1/2 or 4 hours of broken sleep. I've I called the hotel a couple of days later to let them know of my experience. The person that answered the phone took a message. She said I might have to try calling back. I never heard back from them and I never called back. I lost close to $150.00. read more

It looks as though this hotel has recently been renovated. The room was just as expected! And it was nice that it had a fridge and microwave so that way you can bring your own food. They do have breakfast still available for free, but due to covid it's more of grab and go items such as yogurt and bananas. read more

I don't care what other people said, we are having a wonderful stay here! We had to book 2 rooms for 2 nights unexpectedly. The staff is VERY friendly, helpful, and accommodating to my son who is currently in a wheelchair. First floor king room. We are mobility impaired so have the handicapped room that means hold on bars in the shower. Great when drunk also. Room is excellent. Tv has limited channels and wifi is functional. Nearby restaurants gas etc . ( maybe at same time). Floor in bathroom and tub VERY slippery. Careful. Pool quite chilly. Hot tub ok not too warm but odd odor. The pool area shows wear and rust and other issues but is ok. Breakfast is served in AM and I will add that later. Room is large clean and reasonable. Ok now for breakfast. A pleasant surprise . The area is small but well stocked. Hot eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy. Usual carbs and fruit. Yogurt waffles tea coffee juice. Pretty good! read more

Guest services says we recently remodeled. It was discounted remodeling. Dirty everything with free hot breakfast in the am. Free breakfast that I would never even feed my dog or any living being also gross. Nothing more to say and Priceline had them listed as 3-Star. Horrible experience. The room was musty and dirty smelling. The shower, tub, and sink all somehow has peeling paint. The carpet was clearly not vacuumed well, they beds have clearly been laid upon prior to us getting into the room. I called the front desk to request extra pillow and blankets and got the third degree about why do I need extra linens etc. I forgot to ask for extra towels (We have a double queen room for my spouse, me and our 3 small kids) we have 3 towels), but am now nervous of another 3rd degree for extra towels. We don't have the option if getting another room or hotel as they are all booked for firefighters fighting a fire near by. The front desk person was so rude and condescending. Ugh read more

Friendly staff. No breakfast due to COVID-19 BUT they allowed us to use the microwave and toaster in the closed breakfast nook. Due to a truck breakdown (waiting for parts for 3 three days), we were stuck in Pagosa Springs. The hotel worked with us and extended our stay daily as needed. The RV was permitted to be parked on hotel property during this ordeal. Covid-19 made room cleaning different. We used the same sheets all three days. We changed our own trash and requested fresh towels and supplies from the front desk. Good WiFi and Direct TV. Laundry machines worked well. Refrigerator and coffeemaker in room. Beds and rooms were average. Location allowed two food locations within walking distance for us while we were stranded. read more

Pretty awesome hotel if you're just wanting to stay short term. Hotel is also pet friendly and has a house doggo! Rooms are spacious, but definitely need a face life. The bath tub was peeling in my room, and the carpet was super old. I am sorry that I am giving you one star. I wasn't expecting too much since I'm not paying high price but my experience here was not so good. Room wasn't ready when we arrived and when it was ready, keys didn't work. We returned to front desk and the guy was confused. Finally get new keys, went in to the room, it was full of boxes. Then return to the front desk and got OTHER keys and the room wasn't ready... So we have to wait for a while. We needed to use Wi-Fi to do business & school work but it didn't work. I called front desk but they didn't know what's going on and told me their Wi-Fi is working fine and I have to keep trying so I had to wait. Next morning, it still didn't work. Called front desk again and they told me that maintenance is working on it but they don't know how long it takes. Really really sucks!!! I think they are unprofessional to do hotel business and need to improve. I don't think we are coming back here again... read more

My room was modern, beautiful and clean. It was very comfortable with nice bedding and towels. I love the color scheme and flooring in the room. The bathroom was clean and bright. I am not sure why they have bad reviews. I stayed there May 5th 2019. It was very NICE. The rooms look like they've been updated recently and were clean and spacious. The price was fair in comparison to the Quality Inn in the same town. I really enjoyed my stay there. Highly recommend people to stay there. read more

This hotel used to be a Holiday Inn Express and was one of the best bests in Pagosa Springs. 4 or 5 years ago it would have been 4+ stars,. Now it has mold in the bathroom, silverfish in the bed, dirty carpeting and old mattresses. Plus the indoor pool was so cold my legs went numb (easily less than 75 deg) and my daughter could only stay in for 10 min. We unfortunately had the room right next to the pool so other rooms may be much better. I would ask to see your room before your pay though. read more

Decent hotel, A bit run worn (tub refinishing was peeling, carpet was getting a bit worn through, etc.). Walls were pretty thin. Rooms were acceptable, TV channels provided were extensive (I hate when they don't pay for any of the movie channels... Hillside had several) Centrally located near several decent restaurants. Easy access to rooms from parking lot. Breakfast was quite decent. Staff were very nice, accommodating and helpful. Price was a bit higher than other hotels in Pagosa Springs that week ($145/night vs. ~$100-110 for others the same week), but given the week that we were there (Spring Break), I didn't view the per night room rate as unreasonable. NET: Would certainly repeat, but isn't worth a premium to other brand-name hotels in the area. read more

Beware, crooks charged my card an additional $275 for smoking. The room had already had cigarette stains on bathtub, when we arrived. My wife is handicapped, so I requested room on the 1st floor. She was very nice and gave us the room next to front desk. The room reeked of cigarettes when we entered, and was a bit disheveled, but was on the first floor so we sucked it up. I noticed charge a month later when reviewing my statement, called hotel and was told the charge was for smoking in the room. Outrageous! Stay away from this place. read more

The hotel badly needs to be remodeled and updated. Most of the staff are very friendly. The owner however is another story. He is extremely unprofessional and rude. I don't know if it is a case of little man syndrome or if he has just never taken any sort of training in the hospitality industry, but he is as sarcastic and volatile as anyone I've ever had the misfortune of encountering. His explosion had to do with programming a key card that didn't work properly...imagine that. Although my company does a lot of business in the area, I can't imagine using this facility again unless it changes hands. read more

I've stayed in a lot of hotels and the hillside was by far the grungiest grossest hotel. It's old carpet has multiple stains and rips. My son and I found hairs on our sheets. I slept in my clothes because I was so grossed out and didn't take a shower because the bathroom was so filthy. read more

The people in the room across and next to us were connected and thought it would be fun to go back and forth between rooms all night and then run down the halls and hold conversations in front of our door starting at 5am. When we went down to breakfast, I spoke with Mary, who claims to be the hotel manager and she said all she would do is call them. She calls them while I'm standing there telling them exactly what roomid complaining and what our complains were. Even when other people kept coming up to complain about the same loud rooms, she said we should check out if we aren't happy. Definitely not the way to manage a hotel. The air conditioner in the room sounded like an animal crawled in it and died. Avoid this hotel. There are others for comparable prices. read more

We were in town with the Mercedes Benz Club for a weekend getaway. Price was pretty good for the area, and you get what you pay for. Room was clean with two queen beds, a bit outdated, but clean. Pool area was ok, very sparse. Hot tub was nice, but very chemically (if that's a word!). Staff was nice and the hot breakfast in the am was pretty good! If you're looking for an inexpensive place to stay with no frills, this is it. I think for the MB Club, we could have done better, sorry! read more

Bed Bugs!!! Stayed on the second floor in between two rooms that were being renovated. Started getting bites and itching in the middle of the night and thought I was having an allergic reaction to something, then turned on the lights and saw what looked like fleas at first on the bed. Googled it and it turned out to be bed bugs! It was 1am and the baby was sleeping in her pack and play or we would have left. After a restless night, went to the front desk intending to get a refund. The clerks first words were "I don't believe you, you have no proof". Showed him the bites on my arm and told him there are tiny spots of blood all over the sheets, that is proof enough. He said it was our problem not his, and that room was scheduled to be renovated soon so it didn't matter. Furious. He should have at least been sympathetic! He was rude and uncaring. read more

My company booked this hotel for me. When I read the reviews I was a little scared but to my delight it was a very nice place to stay for the week. The hotel is family owned and they take great pride in their business. The owner is old school and wants people to respect the property my guess that would be where the negetive reviews came about. He joked with me when we came back from a long day, sometimes because of the accent it took me a minute to figure out he was joking. His wife made a very nice breakfast and was very pleasant. This family was constantly cleaning and remodeling room by room. The hot tub was very nice and we enjoyed it every night. The maids always asked if we needed anything. The location is great, easy access to everything. The locals raved about the owners and their involvement in the community and had their friends and families booked at this hotel. read more

Hole in the door, broken lock, tub was peeling, rust everywhere, filthy carpet, smelled like smoke and the ceiling was falling onto the floor in the pool room. $130 for our room and NO HOT WATER! Needless to say... first time we have EVER disputed charges for a hotel room. After trying to work it out with the manager, she tried locking us out of the room with our stuff and dogs still in there! Sad! Especially for such a beautiful place in Colorado! read more

I'm moving across country and this was one of our stops. We got in late at night. The front desk man was very rude and snappy with up. He made us pay $20 more because we had an extra person with us. When I asked him about breakfast he looked at me and said " you need to hold on, have patients." Excuse me? I'm an adult not a child. The breakfast was not good. This hotel was the only one with a room for at least 400 miles. I had called ahead to see if they had room and the woman who answered was super friendly and told me they did. When I arrived she was friendly and auxin to get me to my room. The room was very nice and smelled clean. The bed was super comfortable and the bathroom was well stocked. Absolute best value. An older hotel but very clean and great location, about 2-3 miles from central Pagosa Springs. The hotel and rooms were very clean and everything worked fine (we had a whirlpool tub in our room). Wi-Fi worked great. The price for this hotel is awesome for what you get. We paid the same price for a weekday and a weekend, all rooms have satellite TV with ALL premium channels (HBO, Cinnemax, Stars, ect.), there's an indoor heated pool and jacuzzi (we stayed in January), and your stay includes a buffet style breakfast (eggs, biscuits and gravy, toast, bagels, cereal, sausage, waffles, coffee/milk/juice) every morning. read more

Based on previous reviews, I'll admit that I was a little nervous about booking a room at this hotel, but I was very pleasantly surprised! When we got there, the lady at the front desk was great! The room they originally had us down for was on the upper floor, but as we started toward our room, we soon realized that there is no elevator. Before we even asked, the lady apologized and asked us if we would like a room on the 1st floor instead. Awesome customer service! We got to the room and were very happy with it. It was good sized, clean, and had everything we needed. Yes, the wallpaper was peeling a little bit in a few places, the mattress was old and a not super comfortable, and it was a but dated, but really, it wasn't bad at all. They had a nice sized pool and hot tub, which we didn't use, but it looked nice enough. Breakfast was served from 6:30-9:30, and even on weekday mornings included biscuits, gravy, sausage, eggs, and waffles, along with the standard hotel breakfast food. Housekeeping did a wonderful job of making sure our bed was made and that we always had fresh towels and wash cloths. I would definitely stay here again! If you want a swanky hotel, you're going to have to pay the price of a swanky hotel, but if you just want a clean, comfortable place to stay, then I recommend this place! read more
