Thankfully, my family and I have since found a church where we feel genuinely welcomed and supported. I grew up attending this church and many of my family members and friends did as well. Because of that, it felt like the natural place to celebrate such a special moment in our lives. Unfortunately, the experience leading up to our wedding was incredibly disappointing. Throughout the planning process many of our interactions with Elsa left us feeling judged rather than supported. It often felt like we were constantly being corrected or expected to meet certain standards instead of being encouraged and welcomed. Rather than feeling excited about getting married in the church I grew up in I found myself feeling discouraged. I believe churches should help people feel welcomed, encouraged, and drawn closer to their faith not leave them feeling like outsiders or ashamed because they don't meet every expectation. (Sometimes unfortunately people do stray away but who are we to judge or make people feel that way?) The day of our wedding was especially disappointing. Shortly after the ceremony we were rushed to leave and were told we needed to get out. After such an important milestone that was an unfortunate way to end. I'm grateful to have found a new church where my family and I feel accepted, welcomed, and able to grow in our faith without feeling judged. I truly hope everyone who chooses to celebrate one of life's biggest moments here has an experience that makes them feel loved and supported.

The Denton YSA ward has been such a bright spot for me. It's welcoming, supportive, and full of people genuinely trying to be better while building real friendships. As soon as you start driving up to the church you will notice immediately that it's huge. As you come to expect with this style of church house there were coffee stations set up, a bookstore, a cafe, a separate children's church area and 3 huge screens in the sanctuary. Milestone is the type of church were the pastor's message is timed down to the penny so you know exactly how long you will be in service. There was surely more than 1,000 worshippers in the sanctuary for the 11 am service. I am accustomed to the term "Youth pastor" but the pastor who brought the word during my visit was called a "Teaching Pastor". That term is new to me but certainly accurate to describe Pastor Jeb. He taught from the book of Luke and it was a wonderful message, starting with Bible scripture and staying true to bringing the word of God. The parking lot traffic directors,ushers and greeters all smiled and spoke to me. I attended alone and not one single parishioner outside of the greeters said a single word to me. This is most definitely not the church for me but I did enjoy the service and I think it's a nice church.

Everyone has been so welcoming and kind from the very first time we visited. Father Keith is very well spoken and delivers very thought provoking, heartfelt, honest sermons. With it being a small church everyone knows each other and you get to spend time with Father Keith after mass. They have a light lunch/ snack aftermath on Sundays which has been a great opportunity for me to get to know everyone. For me, even though I'm Roman Catholic, being at this church just feels right in my heart.
