Came here their "Miracle Christmas" pop-up bar. I have been to the miracle bars and other locals before and it's a fun time. Unfortunately, the prices have gotten a bit absurd. This location did not offer the Miracle food menu either, but they did have a food truck outback. It was decorated nice for the holidays. Staff struggled a bit with making the Miracle cocktails. Really not impressed. Previous Yelp reviews show this place had food, which it does not. They had a showcase of various scones, muffins & cookies. When I asked if they had food, I was told "no, because the person they partner with caters on the weekend"... This "public house" also doubles as a bike shop. Besides that, it's very "hipster". Not sure if it was the espresso martini, the jalapeño cheddar scone, or a combo of both, but stomach started knotting up while I was sitting at the bar. There is something special going on in Montgomery and this place is an indicator of that. I grew up on this side of town, worked down the street at Howards for pretty much my entire life until I moved away. I have since been all over the world and was nearly shocked to find a coffee shop of this caliber when I came home this time. One of the things I do whether home in DC or when I travel is to find a coffee shop I can take some me-time and start my day and I am still in disbelief on how this place rivals places I've been to in Barcelona, Paris, DC, etc. Here are a few things that stood out: ***** Selection - they had espresso, true drip - they do it right in front of you, teas, and even had Vietnamese Coffee; I can barely find this in DC! ***** Quality - every drink I tried was excellent ***** a' la cart - the pastry was excellent; they source them from local bakers ***** Service - the staff was really nice, attentive and made good recommendations. ***** Extras - they seem to have a bikeshop in house and a bike-share type setup across the street. Came here one evening with coworkers. Apparently this place is both a coffee house and a bar. I can't comment on the coffee side, but did experience the bar side. The place was fairly full the night we stopped in. So they partnered up with a food truck that parks out back...if you want something to eat with your drinks. My coworkers had some food and said it was good. I passed on the food because I wasn't hungry. I had a couple local drafts that were good and then had another beer in a can but can't recall what they were...sorry. The atmosphere was awesome as this place looks like a sleeper from the outside. On my visit, they were doing some sort of trivia game and nearly everyone was playing. Winners were given a free drink. After the game was over, the place started emptying out fairly quick. A local said lots come just for the trivia game...apparently popular. The only downside at this place, the bartender was definitely slow...too slow. This was such a cool and eclectic place to visit. A coffeeshop that also serves beer and cocktails...sign me up! The rear of the establishment houses a bicycle repair shop. There's ton of seating, both table and couches, and board games for patrons. I tried one of the local beers and my BH had an Old Fashioned, which was delightful. The owners are part of an effort rejuvenating a historic neighborhood. This set of once-boarded-up storefronts have been transformed. They are located a short walk from the National Memorial for Peace and Justice. Daily overnight shipments of fresh bagels from a family-owned Brooklyn shop greet you in the morning, along with espresso-driven coffee creations from an Italian-made LaMazzacco machine, or you can get a comforting drip coffee. I'm not a coffee drinker, but I enjoyed a Golden Milk (turmeric drink). There is a bike repair shop for your cycling needs in this hill town. And at night: there is something for everybody. Bourbon, whiskey, and rum straight or in cocktails elevate your time in The Gump. There are great gins, vodkas, and other liquors. All curated. If liquor is not your thing, look at their wine and beer selections. You want a Michelin Ultra, Coors, or PBR? You're welcome to unwind from your hard day at work with one of those, a local brew, or a selection of craft brews from farther afield at a group table or in a cozy corner. I walked in for a drink the one full night I was in town. The decor is welcoming, quirky, and beautiful (odd to note, but the wallpaper (William Morris) in the first bathroom is gorgeous (see photo)). I saw a woman who had worked on a road crew and talked to a judge, both drinking Michelob Ultra. Several people ordered a signature Old Fashioned. Others enjoyed Bees' Knees concoctions. The owner/manager Andrew extolled about whiskeys, bourbons, and rums. I also saw the impressive and curated wine collection that I didn't have time to enjoy. The next morning, I had a Golden Milk and ran into someone I met the night before, who warmly greeted me. I felt like a local. I really enjoy going to the Hilltop Public House. It's laid back. They have decent bakery items in the morning that sell out over the course of the day. They have coffee to alcohol, so in the morning coffee and in the evening both. Totally dog and kid friendly. Dogs and kids are allowed inside. Service is great. Typically bar service typically one to two people. So potentially not blistering fast service. I did say laid back place to hang out. It's a come as you are place.
