Hillyer House is a beautiful and impressive shop. I stopped in HH one day while shopping in Downtown Ocean Springs with my kids. The moment I walked in I grabbed my youngest and instructed her: DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING. I could just picture her plowing through a beautiful display of handblown glass and my goals of early retirement vanishing before my eyes. The decor here is high end and fantastic. The shop is very large and is filled with home decor items that were beautiful, but probably a little too fancy for my place. The items that truly impressed me though were all of the hand blown glass items. It may seem a bit odd for people who know me, but I am a huge fan of hand blown glass. My favorite pieces were the ornaments hanging from the ceiling. All were handblown and of so many different styles that I couldn't pick just one for my favorite. They weren't cheap, but at the same time, they were very reasonable for a hand blown piece of art. I ended up being indecisive about buying some and still regret it. I need to get myself back here and get at least two. If you are looking for high end home decor items or hand blown glass, I recommend you visit Hilyer House. Using your eyes, you quickly see wall to wall to decorative display table...beautiful must haves in an arrange of sea glass colors. The interior lighting is dimmed enough to offset the bright light emanating from the front street picture window. The space is not cluttered and has ample walking / navigational space. Large whimsical line and watercolor framed paintings and colored ceramic and glass art, are harmonious yet resplendent in a magical way. You may want to purchase and put on your own walls at home many of the fine pieces displayed here. Several ceramics of local potters are also on display, glass light catchers infused with whimsical shape (Jellyfish)but again with artistry, not hokey-ness to catch your eye. Stop in. Wow, what an incredible experience. We walked in and immediately were greeted and asked if we needed a cold drink. The items in the gallery are very obviously chosen carefully to represent the incredible array of original art. Above and beyond the incredible inventory, we asked about a local pottery studio. Paige, the owner said it was awesome, that she used to go there as a child. We asked how to get there, and she offered to drive us there. Said she would love to bring us there, and she did. We arrived at the studio and she took us inside and introduced us to the folks at the gallery and instructed us to call if we needed a ride home. What a kind and generous thing. Thank you Paige.
