We were visiting PEI from Boston where good Indian food is nonexistent, so we thought we'd see what PEI had to offer. This restaurant is fantastic! We ordered the Butter Chicken and Chicken Ticca Masala with rice and garlic naan. Both dishes were delicious! The Butter Chicken sauce was rich and buttery. You could taste the tandoori in the chicken in the Ticca Masala, and the sauce had a rich flavor with onions, cilantro, and ginger. The rice was cooked perfectly. The garlic naan was huge and came out piping hot. It was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with just enough of a garlic taste. There is ample parking and the restaurant is very clean. The staff was friendly and very engaging. We will be back the next time we are in PEI! read more

Went for a to go dinner. The mango chicken was exceptional (probably a 5 star). The mix of flavors and the crisp on the chicken was outstanding. The butter chicken was also tasty but lacking enough chicken. The mango lassi wasn't well mixed although it had a good flavor overall after a good stir. read more

The Himalayan Indian Cuisine, recently opened in February 2014, is a great addition to where to eat in Charlottetown. Definitely Indian with a wide variety of dishes on the menu. We had Chicken Samosa - huge, could be a small meal in themselves - with two tasty sauces. Yum. She had Chicken Curry with white rice. She loved it and I must say it was tasty - tried it. I had lamb Pandora (?) which was very hot and tasty. I'd say it was a tad dry but that's why we got a pot of lovely chai tea. The naan bread was so fresh and hot it felt sinful to eat. We were both stuffed and left half the food. Under $50. The restaurant is not licensed yet. Service was friendly and efficient. Our fave Indian restaurant is Dhaba Express in the Halifax Bayer's Lake mall area. Himalayan Indian Cuisine is as good or better. We can't wait to go back to try some of the many other dishes. The food here is *delicious*. I came here first with my oldest child (12 yrs) as his introduction to Indian food. It was a little hit-or-miss with him and all the new flavours, but for me, it was a stellar experience with food as good as I can get in Toronto. We went again with my other child (9yrs) who proclaimed that we should become "regulars" at Himalayan. Their favourites are the Chicken Pakora and the Tandori Chicken. For me, their Butter Chicken is a standout. And the naan..... oh my - tender and delicious. The place is on the small side, and it's a little off the beaten path (it's off University Ave - behind "Source for Sports" in the "Midtown Plaza" on Eden St.) But it's worth seeking out if your in the mood for something different from pubs and seafood. The server we had, twice now, is exceedingly friendly and informative. Prices are very reasonable considering that each dish is clearly had prepared with great care. I gave it 4/5 stars only because the ambiance could use a little work. I'll add that if you are looking for a place to eat with a mixed group of carnivores and vegetarians, this is the place for you - everyone will find several dishes to enjoy. read more

Very pleasant surprise in Charlottetown. Previous Indian restaurants were hugely disappointing. But here is very fairly priced and quite good Indian food from various regions. Take advantage of their tandoori clay oven-- Lamb Tandoori excellent-- slightly blackened from the oven, smoky spicy and tender. Chicken Korma delicious tangy and rich. A nice cool raita and gorgeous naan on the side. Finished with a delicious Chai Tea fragrant with cloves and spice. Finally an Indian place in town we will look forward to visiting. read more

Again Yelp users deliver! On business in PEI, stuck with yet another Indian food craving and this place certainly took care of it.... Service was excellent, kind and courteous. Food was excellent... Veggie Somosas are huge and tasty, good match with their sauces. Two of them almost constitute a meal! Naan bread are also huge, hot and fresh. Butter chicken was delicious, my go to choice to compare Indian restaurants. I had "mild" despite my preference for spicy food, as turned out flavours were great, with a curious but superb presence of a stronger than usual tomato taste. Mild was too mild for me but it takes nothing away from the dish. Then their lamb korma, mild again, (next time definitively going medium-hot) was also nice with great flavour. Lamb meat chunks were nice and tender, none of the usual rubbery cheap cuts of meat. Finally, my last test for an Indian restaurant...chai tea...if it is piping hot, already they score high...good flavours not too much sweetness ...nice chai tea here... Am I returning? We thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant. Small and unassuming in a "hole in the wall". You would never find this place on your own. Tried butter chicken and chicken tikka masala. Split a pakora starter. Meals come with naan or rice, but plenty for two. Prices are good for what you get. If we are ever back this way, we will return. Oh yeah, medium hot is hot enough. read more
