DELICIOUS - the best Indian food in Rome! We had such a pleasant evening here. The food was an absolute dream. We've been to 2 Michelin restaurants and dozens of of amazing Roman eateries on our trip, and this was the first place we both agreed we'd genuinely want to return to for a second time. The inside is beautiful and genuine, it really feels like you just took a step in to royalty India. But the food is where it really shines... We ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and Chicken Vindaloo. The sauces were both creamy and packed with flavor and spice. Our side order of basmati rice and garlic + butter naan made for the most delicious meal. We also ordered a Mango Lassi and Banana Lassi, both of which were extremely authentic and delicious. The service is straightforward and to the point. Polite, but without the wasted small talk and fake smiles, which I really appreciate it. Here it's all about eating good Indian food and being comfortable. The inside was very beautiful, the chairs were beautiful wood and the tables seem to be hand carved. You could see the craftsmanship on the walls with handmade art. This is a MUST for your trip in Rome!

We had grown a little tired of so much pasta and decided to try some Indian food while in Rome. I had read that Indian food in Rome was excellent and they were right. The restaurant is a little bit away from the main train station, but can be accessed on foot. The area surrounding the restaurant isn't the nicest and can be sketchy late at night. We tried to get a taxi to take us back towards the Pantheon but couldn't find one. We ordered an appetizer of samosa I ordered the Kashmirvegetable korma which was delicious and had lovely flavors. My husband ordered Chana masala and said his was delicious as well. We paired all of that with ice and butter naan! The server was very attentive. I didn't see much of the inside of the restaurant because we sat outside, but what I did see looked clean. Overall the food was delicious and a nice break from more pasta.

I went in today after reading good reviews but was sorely disappointed. The owner wanted me to give 5 stars but the service was poor. The washroom did not have running water. Naan was undercooked. Chana masala was pretty average and serving size was small. They did not have tap water for consumption and charged 3 euro for bottled water. I did not get a bill too. I will not recommend this place despite Indian food options being less in this city.

Good, not great. Naan was probably the highlight.

I also lived in Central…read moreAmerica for a couple years and left fearful of pig product but my husband convinced me to try this place. Our first trip to Rome was a gastric punishment. People served poor quality high priced food. We learned our lesson for this second trip and are using Yelp too. Thanks to Yelp and Pane & Vino, our first meal in Rome was fantastic!!!! All the sandwiches have this incredible and well seasoned juicy roast of pork except one which is the burger. Each sandwich has a different bread...red is colored with tomatoes from Mt Vesuvius. Black is colored with squid ink (don't worry there's zero squid flavor). Yellow is colored with Turmeric! My husband got the burger. It was absolutely delicious! I got the special...HELLO! Incredible and big so you can totally share it or take your time they don't push you out. There's alcoholic options along with sodas and waters to drink. The owner is wonderful! He refers to his restaurant as his house (so he'd never charge a fee for you to sit and eat there) and his menu items, creations, are his "children." He speaks 6 languages fluently so no worries if you don't speak Italian, he also speaks English, Spanish, French, and then 2 others that aren't Latin based. (He also speaks an additional 2 dialects not so fluently but hey, he's doing well in my book and very helpful to the 4 different couples and families that were in his tiny restaurant while we were there. Eat here afterwards before your Coliseum tour. Also, he's happy to give you suggestions for the area...he recommended a gem nearby of ST Clementine basilica to go check out some newly discovered ruins! It was incredible and we would have never known without him offering. We loved the food so much that we made it our last meal before leaving Rome as well!

Pane & Vino is a tiny sandwich shop near il Colosseo that specializes in local porchetta (stuffed pork loin) and is run by the friendliest owner of all time. He gets to know every customer on a first name basis. I'd go back more to see him than to have a sandwich. Seriously, he's pretty awesome. The menu is simple and focused on sandwiches featuring their famous porchetta so we tried two recommendations from the peppy proprietor. While waiting, I got a miniature bottle of Chardonnay and my spouse sipped a Coke Zero. The Traiano Porchetta sandwich (12€ - 4 stars) is an original creation of the out-going owner with a mighty Mustard-flavored blend of Roast Pork, Sun-dried Tomatoes, and Grilled Eggplant. I like mustard and, therefore, liked this specialty much more than my wife, but we ended up ignoring portions of the so-so bun. Pane & Vino Special Porchetta (12€ - 4 stars) was a huge sandwich with the sliced Roast Pork Porchetta plus Mozzarella Cheese, Grilled Eggplant, Grilled Peppers, Mushrooms, Lettuce, and Mayo on classic Italian Pane. It needed more mayonnaise or a sprinkle of balsamic and olive oil for my tastes, but there was no denying it was a hearty hero. There are lots of pane bread and sandwich shops in Rome, but there is only one -- Pane & Vino -- run by the most welcoming of owners ever. If I'm in the neighborhood again, I'll be sure to stop in for a casual chat and some yummy porchetta sandwiches on the way to the Colosseum.

The cheese was creamy and delicious, and the vegan bacon was crunchy with the perfect texture - just like real bacon. The owner stated that it was made from pea protein, which I also would never have guessed. PRO TIP: The they close the kitchen between lunch and dinner (at 3:30) so be sure to get there earlier for full access to the menu. Even though I arrived late, the waiter asked the kitchen to make me carbonara, and I'm so glad they did! I will definitely be coming back here again to try their other vegan dishes. The bruschetta was also phenomenal. The tomatoes are so much sweeter and the olive oil so smooth, much better than in the U.S. And of course, I can't forget the noodles - perfectly al dente and fresh. I feel so spoiled when I eat pasta in Italy!

All this is to say, while in Italy, I've had excellent cheese - and with vegan cheese being hit or miss, I went in a bit nervous about the vegan cheese platter appetizer. However, the cheese really blew me away: it was excellent vegan cheese and with great variety. The cheese on the platter had different textures and different flavors (including one with a delicious kick that I happily would've bought a block of) and did a great job emulating non-vegan cheese plates. I followed this up by trying their 3-d printed steak in pumpkin sauce. Firstly, the pumpkin sauce was incredible: I generally only tolerate pumpkin-based products, but I found this pumpkin sauce delicious - excellent flavor profile and perfectly complimenting the steak. For the steak: you definitely won't confuse this with actual meat, but it was still good and flavorful - and the texture itself was super interesting. It had the bit of a real steak but with layers and complexity. I'm very glad I ended up trying this. All in all, the dishes we ordered were all great - and really interesting. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone - even if you aren't vegan!
