Mountainside Grocers is a small grocery store adjacent to Sugarloaf Resort, just off Access Road,…read moreand the only grocery store for many a mile in any direction. I think the closest large grocery store is an hour away. Not surprisingly, given its proximity to the ski resort, they have skier- / traveler-friendly prepared fare (e.g. hot and cold sandwiches, salads, fried and roasted chicken). But there's so much more: a good selection of fresh produce, meat, yogurt, butter, baked goods, canned goods, medicines, wine, beer and liquor, milk, ice cream, birthday cakes (frozen)... In short, anything you would find at a much larger grocery store and just about anything you might need to prepare a good meal chez vous. The biggest kicker of all? Prices are actually reasonable! They are, to my great surprise, not at all rapacious, especially in light of the store's relatively remote location, and even downright inexpensive for some sale items. We recently picked up Persian cucumbers for less than $2.50 a package, a 1.5 qt carton of ice cream for less than $5, a large, juicy, well-made rotisserie chicken for somewhere around $10, a huge bunch of kale for less than $3, and a reportedly fantastic beef brisket burrito for around $10. This kitchen knows what it's doing! My sense is that plenty of locals shop here on a regular basis. (People in the neighborhood where we are staying tell us they used to send their then-little kids out by snowmobile for groceries here.) Someone -- I think one of the owners -- was training his young daughter to use the cash register on a recent visit. A great family-owned business, this place. I love it!

Unfortunately we live in a small Maine ski town so we have to settle for what we have unless we…read morewant to drive 25 miles or more in any direction, so therefore the locals use the store all the time. The thing that is frustrating is they seem to cater to the out of towners more than the people who are here for them year round. After the weekend, the market is empty and they restock toward the middle or the end of the week before the tourist come. Their produce is disgusting, nothing is fresh. Try to find anything in the store and it's a challenge even for the people who shop there all the time. And let me just say this about the choices, seems like whoever is ordering is only getting a brand they like and then only what they would choose. For instance they carry Brigham's ice cream, the only flavor, peppermint stick. I happen to like that type but why buy only one flavor. I've tried finding large cans on albacore solid white tuna and so many other things, that were always there before this group bought the store and can never find them. They really need to take into consideration the people who live here and maybe cater to the people who keep them in business year round!

Great little neighborhood grocery store that has reasonable hours, great parking and most things…read moreyou would expect in a supermarket. Tiny though it is. THIS IS NOT A HANNAFORD's. Lol. Most of their products are Hannaford brand, their paper bags say "Hannaford", even their name badges have the Hannaford brand. But don't dare call this a Hannaford store or the employees will give you an earful, lol. If you go there in the weekdays they have some very entertaining locals who often walk the aisles for something to do. You get shopping and entertainment all in one.

I love it here. The staff is so friendly, they always say hi. And the prices? All I can say is "oh…read moremy goodness "! Unbelievable! The cereal I love is $6.00 at any other store, but here it is $2.25. Some things will be past the date by a little. But you just look at the date. Most everything I get isn't out of date for 6months to a year. They have everything! Frozen meats, pizza and more. They have fresh produce, they have eggs, milk and bread. I buy all my husband's snacks for the week. I just bought cranberry juice there 6 pack bottles of 100% juice. $2.50 a six pack. No way you're going to come close to that price anywhere else. They have a baking isle with good brand name products such as nestle chocolate chips and sugar flour and spices. They have coffee, k-cups and tea. They have a vegetable and condiments isle with soups and spaghetti sauce. I got a glass jar of pasta sauce and very good brand name for $2.00 and change. It's almost $6.00 at other stores. And they also have fresh bakery good when you first come through the door with cookies and fresh baked pies as well as bread and rolls. Homemade jars of pickles and jams as well as honey and maple syrup. I can't say enough about this store. I can fill a cart for around $150.00 with everything from breads, cereals, frozen foods, snacks, canned vegetables, coffees, baking goods and more. I went to my local grocery store the other day and 2 bags cost me over $70.00. Now I'm not saying anything bad about other stores, but just want to express the difference in the savings by shopping here. The store is clean, bathroom facilities are clean which is nice as I have a 40 minute drive to get there from home but it is worth it. I actually get excited every week to go because i know I'm saving a ton of money but it's also exciting because every week I go they will always have different items they didn't have the week before. Like this past week they had the cranberry juice and my cinnamon Cheerios with the granola. They had my husband's favorite granola bars with yogurt and they even have his protein and cliff bars most weeks. They also have toilet paper, laundry detergent, health and beauty items and trash bags, paper plates, diapers, dog food, cat food, dog treats and more. You can get about anything you need here. Give it a try, you will be glad you did.

It feels easy to get around with your cart even when there is a lot of people. The selection of food changes week to week. They utilize foods that maybe were not being used in other places. I forget how they explain it on the sign above the register. But it's food that otherwise I think would go to waste. The food is really good. I find all sorts of unique things and even some locally baked breads and treats. There's always fresh produce too. They grow some of it. They also have Christian greeting cards, which I love. They do take cash or card, so it's really convenient. And again, they are always super kind. The parking lot is pretty big; I have ever had a problem. Best prices.
