A walk around the park revealed that it once had a multitude of well-maintained campsites complete with running water to each site and a bathhouse within walking distance. All campsites appear to be ready to re-open if money would be provided for proper maintenance. Maybe cabins could be built on the dozens of once used camping lots... why not? This park is still very well maintained. Very clean facilities with all lawn areas / shrubs / trees well kept. Very interesting park to walk around. Incredible forest growth, very old trees providing plenty of shade while walking around the park. There appears to be two very nice hiking trails to explore. One on the South-end of the park that winds through the long-forgotten campsites of yesteryear. Another trail to the West of the swim area leads down to a secluded beach area. Park has excellent well-maintained pavilions with very large BBQ pits and plenty of seating. Admittedly the #1 problem with these pavilions appears to be the number of mosquitoes within the vicinity. Would it be too expensive / cost prohibitive to add mosquito netting around the perimeter of the pavilions?? Seems an easy fix to attract more visitors to use and pay for the use of facilities. Even a small pavilion with some netting over a few of the picnic tables would go a long way toward attracting visitors. This is a beautiful park in a beautiful and historic neighborhood. This was a delight to check out while I was visiting the town of Remsen across the lake. Well-worth the trip and I will be returning.

This is a gorgeous state park on the northeast edge of Otsego Lake. My wife, two teenage sons (15…read moreyrs, 13 yrs), and I came here with our miniature poodle for a quick visit during a 4-night stay in Sharon Springs, NY. We came here every day to enjoy the lovely view of the lake, take a leisurely stroll with the dog, and spend an afternoon fishing (for my 15 year old son). It's about a 15-20 minute drive from Cooperstown along the east shore. At the main entrance, you'll pay a $7 admission fee per vehiecle, or you can just show your NY State Parks Empire Pass card. This is a gem of a park that is well worth the price of admission. First, it feels open and spacious with nice hiking trails. Second, the view of Lake Otsego is lovely. You may see a few kayakers or windsurfers on the lake depending on weather conditions. If you have young children, this is a must-visit place as there are kid-friendly playgrounds. Third, the lake is shallow and calm by the beach, but the water temperature can feel a bit chilly. In the summer, they have lifeguards available starting at 11:00am. Finally, the park has a concession stand which sells basic snacks, hot dogs, and drinks. It's also worth it to take a short walk up the hill to see Hyde Hall and the view of the lake from there!

There are picnic tables, a shelter, restrooms, and if the locks arent in use, access to the canal trail on the other side. Plenty of parking. Just an all around nice place to spend a little while. It isn't very big so if you are looking to get some exercise you are best heading to the canal trail. This place is also dog friendly, as long as you pick up after them, and my dogs quite enjoy sniffing around.

This is challenging because of the small size and limited sites. I try at least six months in advance for a water site. The water sites are hard to get. I will stay at any of them they are all wonderful. The lake is very refreshing and the beach is fun. There is a huge rock in the middle of the lake that my family takes pictures at. It is quit a wonderful view. I love coming here to camp. All the campers are always friendly and polite. I have talked with many and they all think this campground is a hidden gem.

Have lived off of a portion of the Griffiss International Sculpture Garden for three years and…read morelove the feel it gives the area. Love walking along the trails with my four legged baby and truly feel blessed that I am able to enjoy the quiet and beauty of the gardens. It truly gives the area a unique feel combining art and nature. The garden runs about a 3 mile stretch and features over 20 large scaled modern sculptures and interactive displays dispersed throughout the walking trails. Additionally, there is a frisbee golf park which makes this a fun area for families to get out and enjoy. There is also a Vietnam Veterans Memorial section as well. Highly recommend a visit to the gardens if you find yourself in the Rome area.

(If you scroll through their prior reviews you can see that they have taken it upon themselves to leave a bad review for any and every sculpture park, river walk, or development that hosts a Lundberg sculpture. Why? Unclear.) Don't let that bad review fool you! This sculpture garden/nature trail is a true gem. Located in Rome, NY on the former Griffiss AFB, this park/trail is well worth your time. There are 28 wonderful sculptures, most of which are approachable from the trail. Signage tells you about the provenance, artist, and materials. There are five linear miles of paved trail, perfect for bikes, jogging, strollers, wheelchairs, skateboards, etc. It is also well set back from the road so don't be deterred if you have kids, there is plenty of open space for them to run around! This is an amazing all season experience, perfect for walking, snowshoeing, xc skiing, and anything in between. There are portapotties available if needed. Trees make a lovely allee along the trail. Stay tuned for a disc golf course that will be installed this summer... in short, don't sleep on this trail!

While renewing my Empire Pass last year at a local state park, I chatted with the ranger about…read morefavorite ones throughout the state. When he learned that I had been to over 100 of them but hadn't been to Green Lakes he urged me to check that one off the list pronto. And you know how that goes: when someone tells you how great something is, that place suddenly starts popping up more and more in your social feeds. Well, after seeing it featured on the socials for I Love NY and NYS Parks, I finally made the trip to Central New York outside of Syracuse (wait, I can call Syracuse "Central New York" on here, right? :) ), and I was not disappointed at all. My visit was early on an October Saturday, and lots of runners and walkers were around. And a fair amount of ducks too. A mostly level 2.5-mile loop around Green Lake and another mile-ish loop around practically adjacent Round Lake (which is also a Registered National Landmark) made for a wonderful morning stroll. I was just walking and taking pictures, but clearly this is a spot where runners meet and get in a workout together. The lakes are beautiful, and, yeah, have an emerald-green glow at times. I'm really glad I made the trip there, and will definitely revisit one day.
