He also helped advise me on what type of drum sticks to use and how to alter the sound of my floor tom. I could hear some practicing in other rooms, so if you do need to record, I would suggest checking with staff about how to minimize outside noise. The closest thing to a band I've ever been in was drunken karaoke with buddies, but if we decide to take that show on the road I got a spot for us to rehearse. If you're in a band or music group of sorts it's a good place to get in a quick session or two before a gig because they have their own PA's, amps, and drums. There are several rooms you can rent by the hour; all of which are fully-equipped (so bands just have to bring their instruments, cables, and sticks) not to mention the garage-band-like-feel to them complete with couches and the smell of inspiration. The staff is really friendly, helpful, and has a snack selection behind the counter. I don't really know the going rate for studio time, but a friend of mine who has rehearsed here says the rates are lower than most. read more

TLDR: In hindsight, I'm gonna say this place was ok, but a bit overpriced for what they are. ---------------------------------------- This place is ok, the gear is ok, the rooms are ok, the location is ok, the experience is ok. They charge more than I'd expect for ok though... My experience: came here and was surprised by how small the lot was and how many people were wheeling in amps, when hindsight provides amps. We had a last minute emergency so we booked the big room, because it was available. It was more $ than the others, but was available. It was spacious, but just slightly bigger than what we were used to, but about twice the cost. The bass cab was a standard ampeg 8x10, the head was an svt 7pro that seemed woefully underpowered. I looked it up and it is supposed to push 1k watts, and I have some experience with the svt4pro, but like everyone I saw in the parking lot, if I have to come back, I'll wheel in my own amp. There was a Marshall half stack that only had one channel. Weird. Pick clean or distortion and hope you remember your pedal, I guess. The PA and the Mesa half stack seemed to work well, and there were monitors on the floor, that was nice. The drum-set seemed decent. They had strings, picks and snacks for sale in case you forgot yours and you can rent instruments. This is great in theory, but it means you would have to convince the sour kid behind the counter to look up from his phone. Weird vibes from that dude for sure. Seriously be prepared to awkwardly stand around waiting while he takes forever to mumble at you and complete whatever thing that is more important. Overall- a great place, but the price is not in line with other places in better locations. (Is this north county or San Diego? I'm not quite sure, tbh) Gear wise, they seemed to go for large amps instead of quality amps. read more

Hindsight has a new location as of 2011: 7063 Carroll Road San Diego, CA 92121 I went to the new place for the first time last night. They've clearly upgraded with fancy clean rooms, better soundproofing, reasonable equipment, and super nice staff. Rates are reasonable too. I just paid $22/hr (or something like that) for a standard room with (2) 4x10 guitar amps, bass amp, PA, and full drum kit. It was perfect to get together a new band for a quick rehearsal. They also have larger and smaller rooms, down to a drum practice studio, available at varying prices. Cables, pics, strings, etc. are usually available for sale at the desk as well. Very useful, well run place. Glad to see their new digs are working out so well. read more

We love Hindsight. We've been coming here to jam and rehearse for about six months and the staff is always friendly, the rooms clean and well equipped. The room we use comes standard with two half stacks and a drum kit at no extra cost. And the rooms are more spacious to other local studios. Would be even better if they had some Fender amps for rent but we've never had a problem with the Marshalls and Randall's offered. The rooms are spaced out so that you don't hear the music from other rooms. Definitely our go to spot. read more

We rehearse at Hindsight before our video sessions at Studio West. Always the front desk staff are helpful, congenial, and knowledgeable about amps, mics, cords, and set ups in each studio. They will get what you need if they have it around. The price is right and if ya'll chip in, it's ridiculously inexpensive even for poor musicians. Sure makes it easy on the drummer: just take sticks and whatever 'toys' you are using for the session. Just do it! read more

This was obviously once an office building of some sort. The rooms are not treated for the purpose of playing music. The ceilings are way too low, and they don't have double doors. Actually, walking down the hall you'd swear that the rooms don't have doors. Once you're inside a room, be prepared for the stench. They are in serious need of cleaning and deodorizing. It would be one thing if the rates reflected the quality, but these guys are charging rates equal to or higher than much nicer, REAL rehearsal studios in Orange County or Los Angeles. Cool place. Very convenient. Been rehearsing in garages, living rooms, shoe box size places for over 35 years and I am sick and tired of carrying amps, P.A. equipment, cords, stands, pedals and all that crap in and out of my car, through hall ways, driveways, up hills, down stairs, around barking dogs, meowing cats and clucking chickens. It's time to do it the easy way. Had a boss once tell me I seem to take the easy way out all the time. Ya right! My existence alone is proof I'm all about the hard way. Besides, who wants an employee that try's to do things the hardest way. That's just stupid. Anyway. Hindsight Rehearsal Studios has it all set up for you. If you want, you need only bring your guitar. They have some killer amps placed in the studios and the P.A's ready to go. Ya, drums as well. Just open your guitar case, plug in, step up to the Mic, and jam. We rented a slightly bigger room, I think. My drummer hooked it up so I'm not sure what else there was except for the other room I popped in just to check out for the purpose of reviewing here. That one, a little smaller. Ours had a built in stage, over head spot lighting and a couch. Pretty sweet set up. I walked in on another band unknowing they were in there. Guitarist just waived at me kinda laughing. "Oops. Sorry dude.Carry on." I think our room was like $30 per hour. Split 4 ways isn't too bad. In fact, I'll gladly hand over the cash next time. Honestly I was a bit hesitant to do this because, well, I've never paid to practice before. But, I'm on board from now on. Otherwise, it's my house, my time moving my furniture, me setting up my P.A. and me trying to figure out why one of my channels isn't working and me taking it all down, putting my living room back in place. I'm over it. I want a break. If you're in a band, you know what hard work is. You know the time it takes to become something people want to hear. You know it's not about money and you know you're not about the easy way out. Seriously, I think I've earned some easy time. Additional notations; They have recording gear. This place is awesome, I've been coming here for years... super convenient, especially for us drummers and the prices are more than fair. The equipment isn't exactly the greatest, but get over it, you can bring what you want. Neil the owner's a super cool guy and the rest of the employees are always nice. If you forget something (sticks, picks, cables, etc.) you can pretty much buy it there which comes in handy when youre in a bind and don't live down the street. Being able to book online's cool too. Been coming here since they were in the old location. Love the new one in comparison. Rooms are good and clean, and the gear gets the job done. However, there's a guy working when I'm there on Saturdays that needs some customer service charm schooling. Don't know his name, but he makes it pretty clear that you're inconveniencing him whenever you need ANYTHING, including to pay and check out. Glasses, brown hair and always looking like he just woke up, which was clearly the case one afternoon when I had to buzz him to get service. He was super rude to myself and my band mates because he had to be paged in whatever room he was sleeping in. He's lucky people didn't rob the front desk blind. That dude needs a come to Jesus meeting with whomever is signing his check. Horrible. read more

Our band has been using HINDSIGHT STUDIOS at least two nights a week for over 8 months now. The new Manager, Clay, is one class act as are all of the employees. They have always treated us like friends of theirs. Our band is a bit older than the employees but yet they treat us like their buds! We are all musicians and that's how we should treat one another. We have utilized other studios but solely because of the employees, we now only use HINDSIGHT. I wish they would do away with that nasty carpet and spend a few bucks making it look nicer as it smells like my old high school gymnasium but hey the price is good and staff is awesome....we use mostly our own gear, but the gear there is always up and running....honestly a little beat up but that's because punks don't take care of it. That being said, ANY issues with gear that we have ever had has been addressed immediately by the crew. Great place, great price, hella great crew. The place has really been squared away and runs a bit tighter over the last two months or so, so kudos to the management change. We will continue to keep HINDSIGHT as our sole rehearsal studio. But again, PLEASE do away with the carpet and maybe mount the room monitors up in the corners of the studios, that may help to free up some space and decrease feedback issues. This is where I have been practicing. it's a 'furnished' practice space. so they have amps and drums. But you need to bring (and i've forgotten one of this many times) drum sticks, extra symbols, double bass pedal, guitars, straps, picks, and cords. The stuff there looks like low end marshall half stacks or b52, some ampeg or carvin bass amps, and a drum set (which i am not qualified to check). rooms have ac. price is sorta ok i guess 18-22 an hr or so. good for shorter practices, so you don't have to move your equipment. My boyfriend's band used to practice here and on occasion I'd tag along, pop in some ear plugs and sit in a corner with my phone and whatever game or book I happen to have on it at the time. The rooms are padded and they've got a drum set all ready to go, but the acoustics aren't that great. Plus they aren't sound proofed, so you can definitely hear what's going on when you're in the hall. I don't think this place was originally built to serve as a rehearsal studio. But it gets the job done. Rooms to practice in with the option to record if you want to pay a bit extra. love rehearsing here. it's close, convenient, and you can rock out without the neighbors calling the cops on you. the equipment is so-so. definitely gotta upgrade the drumsets. helpful tip: bring your own kit if possible. i always lug my toms and zildjians. otherwise, the place is semi clean and furnished if you wanna have a couple people sit into your rehearsals. studio B allows you to record, but don't expect platimum quality. prices vary from $18-22 an hour (a little more during the nights). the best part is they're open til 2am for those like my band who all work nightshifts. read more
