My two biggest knocks on this facility are: no batting cages and the lack of shade. But those are minor. My daughter's competitive softball team plays league games here each fall and I'm a fan!

My children have participated in basketball and football leagues through the Coralville Rec and I can say from experience of signing up one season with another rec center in the area-- they do it best. Communication is on point. -FREE PARKING. The Iowa City Rec Center is a nightmare to park at most times. And honestly, the NL Rec Center (while it is free) is chaos as well. -SPARKS CAMP. This is hands down the best camp offered in the area. The price is right. It is offered ALL summer. They do field trips, pool visits, library days and tons of fun activities. The staff is always great, too. Be sure to sign up right away! It fills up fast around March. I think my biggest knock is just that the facility itself is pretty dated. Get your kid active and thriving, sign them up for programmed at the Coralville Rec Center.

Recently I've been renting the south ballpark for youth softball practices. It's well maintained, is appropriately priced per hour and has a plethora of (nearby) parking. You can reserve ball fields through the Coralville Rec online, via a form. (Spring softball fields are insanely hard to come by and require a draft.) In addition to the great gathering areas, they have tennis courts, volleyball courts and number of baseball diamonds for use whenever. A great place to get outside and enjoy an afternoon regardless of what your interests!

My main interaction with the park is from many walks around the trail or biking through as it connects to the larger bike trail system, and it's ideal for both! My kiddos have done Tiny Tot soccer here multiple seasons-- in the spring, summer and fall. I love that the complex is easy to navigate, I adore that there are indoor bathrooms and that the parking is plentiful! There are nine well maintained youth soccer fields (which I think turns into three full-size soccer fields?) It also can host flag football. I've peeped the ball fields, there are five. Batting cages live here! The pavilion is nice, with shade. It appears to connect to some trails in the neighborhood? There are couple shelters, too. Coralville Youth Sports Park checks all the boxes. While it isn't SUPER convenient for us Iowa City residents to drive to, it is a perfect location for anyone in Coralville/North Liberty! What a great addition that was much needed.

For each of the indoor courts, they have a live camera to both view from the lobby or to record your matches if you need review or proof of winning a competitive match. Well stocked Pro Shop and Locker Rooms are at the entire which haven't seen either in many other competing centers around town! What makes Smithfield PTC special is their membership offerings for both lessons and clinics. They have a Standard membership if you are a social player or a Premium membership to allow you 6+ Reservations each month. The value of what is included in membership dues compared to what you pay is very affordable. If I were to live in Cedar Rapids full-time, I would be at Smithfield daily for their Pickleball drop-ins and recreation play. All the members I met during my stay were both friendly and inviting on and off the court. Looking forward to coming back to Cedar Rapids to visit Smithfield PTC in the near future!

Came here for a hockey tournament with my son and the family. It's a relatively well managed arena…read morewith two ice surfaces and plenty of locker rooms. The majority of the public will probably come here to see a USHL hockey game, but the facility also has a wide range of other activities ranging from learn to skate, youth hockey, men's amateur hockey and open skating (some even with DJs). There are food options here, but they are almost all terrible - it's basically what you would find at a high school football or basketball game - it's nachos, re-heated burgers and hot dogs... There is a bar here, and you can drink during the Rough Riders (USHL) games. I don't think the bar is open during other events unless otherwise advertised. The locker rooms and the rest of the facility are relatively clean and in reasonable repair. The seats in the NHL rink are super comfortable if you are a spectator. The Olympic rink only has metal benches, but you can stand in the mezzanine to watch games as well. My favorite part of the rink is that one of the ice surfaces is an Olympic size ice rink, so it's wider than the standard NHL dimensions. It's fun to play on, and not something you see everyday. Overall, it's one of the nicer facilities in Iowa. Unfortunately, that is not a very high bar.

There are frequently joggers, dog walkers and bicyclists. Great people watching! This is one of the few parks in the area with fishing... it also offers picnic tables, shelters, typical playground equipment. While I can't say it is the nicest play area around-- it does have the essential sand box, slides and swings! It's a picturesque park with a beautiful pond. (Geese and frogs are seen on the regular.). Definitely a pretty spot for engagement photos or family pics. (I've done both here!)

I'm all for self-composting toilets but can we at least have some privacy doors installed? I walked into the women's side of the cement slab "building" (no roof or doors) to find two holes in the ground with a seat over each one - no stall doors, sinks, or antibacterial. I like that this beach is only a 20 minute bike ride from where I live (North side of Iowa City) though, and the beach itself is nice and big, with a decent sized swim zone roped off.
