To some, it may be an odd mix of stone and grass in a growing suburbia, but it can also show the acceptance of the space. This cemetery is not large. It does not take long to explore. One can find weathered headstones from the early 1900s revealing the culture value of a woman as the "wife of" someone. One can find those who gave their lives to military service. While reading the graves or exploring history, here are some things to examine here and at other burial sites. Not every resting place has these feature. - The chronological placement of people - The use of dates (year vs exact day) - Language engraved into the stone - Broken or toppled headstones (don't vandalize) - Weathered headstones that are hard to read - Replaced headstones (stone type doesn't match lifespan) - Footstones (normally with initials) - Stone type and size - Section names - Potter's field (where nameless people are buried) - Maintenance of the grass and other plants - Presence of real or synthetic flowers - Offerings of pebbles or pennies - Trash (to please throw away)

Fairview is the oldest and took it's name from overlooking the fairgrounds of Liberty, a place where Union soldiers camped during the Civil War. Around 1900 the fairgrounds were turned into New Hope Cemetery and since then they have merged. Among the older graves of Liberty's past notable families is the tallest monument where Alexander Doniphan rests; one of Missouri's most famous residents. Doniphan led the longest military march in American history during the Mexican-American War; leading a group of Missourians from the area to New Mexico and into north central Mexico before returning to Clay County. He also allowed Joseph Smith out of jail to escape the governors execution order and thus allowing the establishment of the Mormon Church to proceed. The other notable monument is the Confederate Memorial Statue that was constructed 50 years after the Civil War to "honor" Clay County's southern leaning soldiers. A direct slap in the face to the 100's of unmarked graves of Clay County's African-American population - those enslaved and decedents of - that lie with-in the marble soldiers gaze. Currently a debate rages on whether to remove the statue and groundbreaking has just occurred for a large and regal monument to recognize those buried in the unmarked graves. Street Names and Unmarked Graves Seven Negro Slaves for Life Is how the public notice read. To be auctioned on the courthouse steps, In the town of Liberty, just not Liberty For All. Eternally across the river and always out of reach Of Independence - another town in Mizzori. Like the misery that Gincy has. A Negro Slave for Life; aged About 29. On the steps with Sarah, Harriet, and Benjamin - her children. Aged About 6 years, About 3 years and About 6 months. They all know what it's About. Master Capps is dead, and the heirs have spoken... Sell the Negro's - the land's near broken. And Gincy prays to the white God they gave her, to keep the children with her through this legally accredited transaction. But to the executor William Groom, it does not matter. Which highest bidder buys his chattel. And now some eight score later they all have achieved their liberty, Or at least the independence from these earthly bonds. And Gincy, Sarah, Harriet and Benjamin lay in unmarked graves. Without a stone. East to West, head to feet. They're There. A stone's throw from Groom Street.

For Memorial Day, he had a ground crew do the once a year spruce up the cemetery because people will be coming event. It looked decent this year except for several flat stones had mower tire track mud on them, including a couple of my loved ones. I would have cleaned off the mud from my vehicle, I had already put away my cleaning supplies, rake, broom, brush, weed eater from when I was there a couple of days ago since, in my opinion, the place isn't properly taken care of like it should be so I have to take care of the ones I love myself. Like it used to be when the Johnson's were caretakers. They did an immaculate job maintaining the cemetery. Again, only my opinion, Hank DeVry/#Henry DeVry is a fraud. He acts all caring when you are making funeral plans, choosing a casket (cha-ching) but put one little complaint about the property he is supposed to maintain, he will not hesitate to call you on the phone, bitching at you so loud it makes your teeth rattle, DEMANDING, not requesting, you remove your complaint. That happened to a friend of mine whose husband is at Glenridge Cemetery. It makes me want to vomit. Hank, you could have had the lawn people or someone or possibly you (I think you believe you live in the real Camelot so you probably think cleaning a sign is beneath you) clean the rules of the cemetery sign because it's still filthy, as is the pond. I guess they did an okay job but I find it disrespectful to run over a flat headstone with muddy mower tires and not clean it up. Shame on you. When will you grow a pair and treat the deceased and their families at Glenridge Cemetery with decency and respect? At your age, never, I'm afraid. Please try.
