Definitely worth coming here for the foods! There are tons of places to order different things that you'll crave the next day. Found ourselves ordering from different stalls and found out each one offers different type of purple rice! Tables here are better than the village. The food came in huge portions! I've been to the Hmong village before but this was my first time at the marketplace. I think the pork belly was a bit too dry but it still tasted good with the chili sauce. The Hmong sausage didn't hit very hard and I wouldn't get it again. A busy shopping area with lots of food & clothes & other things! It was cool to see Hmong food & items. I know that Minnesota has a big Hmong population so I was curious to see this place. I learned that Hmong food is decently meat centric so I was lucky to find a stand that had seafood. It was good. Nothing amazing but I'm sure the meat options were more delicious. I did like the mangonada that I had. And the fried desserts. Though their sugarcane wasn't fresh so I wouldn't recommend. But definitely bring cash if you go! That's when I found Dongdoke kitchen. Don't let the name fool you. It's Hmong owned. It's pretty good. It's been here for years. I tried the MEATBALL QHAUBPIAJ. Interestingly good. One of the best places for farmer's market that is run by the Hmong community. I love coming here whenever I needed something like vegetables and their food court is great too. I prefer this place than the other one in Dayton Bluff. I think they have more variety here. Also you must try their sugarcane juice. read more

Perfect spot for all types of yummy traditional food! This spot is very similar to Hmong village but just smaller, I still think it's worth the visit and has its own unique vendors! Their food court has a variety of vendors selling different meals for cheap prices! The pho I purchased was around 7 dollars and I got egg rolls for 5! I also saw bubble teas for 5 dollars and under. Your money will def go far here! I ordered my food from the vendor from the far left of the food court towards the seating haul and it was delicious. The pho was so flavorful and the staff was so sweet. The marketplace offers everything you can think of! This is a Hmong flew market only sells ethnic items of the Hmong people arranging from clothing, to plants and vegetables to herbal remedies. It might of been very hot in a hot day, however, the day we went was in the 80's. Otherwise, I can imagine it would be very hot inside without AC and outside as well. I had the best deal papaya dad here at the food stall! A $8 container of papaya was packed in a big styrofoam container. I asked for mild, but still, it was very spicy to me. Just FYI, it's highly recommended to specify how many chili you want instead of asking for mild, medium or spicy. Went with my boo to visit the Buddhist temple outside Lakeville and it was closed but was beautiful to see it with freshly fallen snow. We decided to head up to Hmongtown Marketplace. Was very excited to try food there! I should have went to Hmoob Kitchen because everyone that ordered there had piping hot bowls of Pho. I was feeling kind of bad for the stall next door and ordered curry noodle and was sadly so disappointed. The how mushy the noodles were and the curry was bland. We wanted a different scene than Hmong Village and this definitely gave it to us! They have a farmers market there but I don't know if it's just on the weekends or daily. They have a lot of choices. They have a lot of buildings with the same style vendors. The food court wasn't as big and there wasn't much choices, the space there is also very small so bringing a stroller was rough. We didn't get anything but something from the ice-cream truck that was there and that was good enough for us. Parking is hectic and there are tons of pot holes so be careful if your car is lower or smaller. It was hard because parking is not friendly there and it always seems crowded. I don't think we would go back. We prefer Hmong Village for a one stop shop. read more

Fun place to check out! Definitely a run down Asian market feel - it's huge inside! Lots of clothes and Knick knacks for sale when you first come in, but keep making your way through and you'll hit the fresh grocery, and then finally the food court! We came in the middle of the week so some of the food court restaurants were closed. Most did sell the same basic things but once in a while you would get a special item in a stall. Our favorites were the coconut sesame ball at the very end and the crazy steak near it! The crazy steak is $25 (with a limit of 3 orders, which was what piqued my interest) but man it was good and a huge portion! You can also add sticky rice on the side, and a small was humongous!! The crazy steak is chargrilled to the temperature you want and doused in this addictive meaty sauce. Hmong sausage was salty but good with rice - had a nice snap and texture to it. The stuffed chicken wing was okay - stuffed with mushrooms and noodles (so tastes like a Chinese sticky rice at dim sum). Take a walk around and pay attention to the one-off items if you want more variety! We also got some mango with chili powder for $5 at the market. read more

Without a doubt your sleeping on this place if you've never been. I'm in absolute love with the curry soup and the pork belly. Oh and the stuffed chicken wings. Pretty interesting place to dine! I enjoyed steamed Catfish wrapped in a banana leaf, egg rolls, and a Thai style papaya salad (they will also do Lao style which is heavier on the fish sauce). My kids loved many flavors of bubble tea milkshake. The real stand out was the Nava or Navam, about fifteen interesting colorful things mixed with sweet coconut milk. Mostly found in the west building. I would totally come back. I want to try chicken wings, fried pork belly, larb, and some of their spring rolls. Cheap, too. You'll fill up for under $20. read more

I heard about Hmongtown Marketplace on a food review show and wanted to check it out. First off, most of the food vendors have the same thing or similar. Whether pho, chicken wings, pork belly, etc. you can find them at all if not most. I got the an order of pork belly. It was good, but not a ton of flavor. Thankfully the delicious, dill-chili-something sauce saved the day. It was so good! The next thing I got was a stuffed chicken wing. It was huge and greasy and delicious! I would have liked to have more than just noodles inside though. It felt like it was missing an aspect. I planned to get more, but had already filled up so much. I'll definitely be back to try out more food and see more about what the pho situation is. read more

Hmong Town is like the ugly sister of Hmong Village. Got stuffed chicken wing and sticky rice here. The stuffed chicken wing wasn't good. It was stuffed with only noodles and black pepper. Why go through all that trouble of de-boning the chicken wing if you're only going to make it taste worse? And the sticky rice was soggy... The only redeeming part of the food court here is the place with all the boba tea powder. They make good papaya salad and bubble tea. Where are the Vietnamese? They're here! They walk Hmong us! Pretty fantastic outdoor Market filled with Vietnamese stuff and other ethnic stuff. They have a massive parking lot which is often full of people. But that's what parking lots are for. Mini-Soda's own Zimmern came here, but I'm not in love with that dude. It's a really cool place to come, but it has nothing on the even bigger and way busier indoor warehouse located a couple of miles to the east which is basically the same thing but way more awesome. read more

I love the food court, especially the papaya salad. I got it Lao Style and it's only $8. I ate it there and then got another to take home. They will let you taste the papaya as they make it to adjust it to your taste. I also had the white sticky rice with sausages, the purple sticky rice with pork belly, and the quail. Some fellow West 7th St Paul friends of ours had been telling us about a great local market and adventurous foodie spot that's very uniquely St Paul. So last Wednesday we hit it up for lunch. I had seen Andrew Zimmern showcase a lot of this food during multiple tv or media segments and really have no excuse for waiting so long to get here. I'm a pretty adventurous eater and will usually try about anything at least once. My friend Jeff who grew up in Indonesia would be proud of me. HmongTown Marketplace is opened 7 days a week from 9am-6pm with a massive produce marketplace, 125 shops, and 11 authentic food spots showcasing everything Southeast Asian culture has to offer in St Paul. Here is what we went with. Stuffed Chicken Wings~ deboned flats stuffed with shiitake mushrooms, glass noodles, and many other ingredients you would find in a a fried egg or spring roll. **I could eat these all day. They're perfectly cooked and so much flavor!** Whole Quail ~ these seem to be deep fried, but could be slow roasted too. **I'm a sucker for small birds and love the little bits of savory meat on them. These are super delicious and the legs eat like frog legs and the breasts are like a succulent dark chicken meat.** Beef Tendon Soup ~ beef tendon, beef, mushrooms, maybe bamboo shoots? I'm guessing beyond that. **This soup is mega flavorful. Tendon is not real texturally pleasing if it's not cooked down (you may not like its gelatinous consistency when it is either, but I loved it)** Fresh Spring Roll ~ w/ spicy peanut sauce. **these are very good quality spring rolls and about the same as you would find elsewhere -- only here you can find 3 massive ones for only $4!** Thai Jerky ~ thick, salty, and again, a large pile of it for around $5. This isn't as adventurous as you can get there, but if you're Livin for trying new things, hit it up soon! read more

This is a hidden gem right next to the capital. We almost exclusively buy our mangoes and lychees there during summer months. There is a vibrant farmers market so there is always fresh fruits and vegetables available. A very mom and pop feeling to the entire place, so we make sure to hit this place up any time that it is possible for us. Very fair prices! Cards are accepted throughout but I usually take cash just so the small merchants don't have to pay the card fees. There is a food court where you can find all the wonderful East Asian cuisines. And our favorite - lots of shops where you can find bubble tea! My personal favorite place to get the bubble tea during the summer months is from the truck parked across from the outdoor farmers market there. read more

There's just nothing else quite like it. The food court is great because this is the only place you can get real Hmong food. Granted, there is also a ton of non-authentic, but popular Hmong festival foods as well. Everything is super cheap and tasty. My only critique is that many of the stalls sell the same items. I also love the mall parts of Hmongtown. These vendors have some serious hustle in them and some stalls have really unique items that can't be found anywhere else. They seem to keep expanding and sometimes will have special vendors selling for a single weekend. I'm surprised everytime I go. If you've never been, it's really worth it for a different experience, but it's definitely for the adventorous. You are guaranteed to smell, see and be among new things. read more

I went specifically for their food and wanted to see the uniqueness of Hmong cuisine and what's there to offer. They have different food stalls that all seemed to offer similar foods, ranging from stuffed chicken drumsticks to meatballs to noodle soups, as well as bubble tea and other drinks. Some of the stalls were hit and miss. I ordered the stuffed chicken drumsticks from a stall that was really good. However my noodle soup was lukewarm, but I also felt bad cause I saw the worker making everything from scratch and probably had my meal sitting for a while. She really was working hard and tried her best. I still recommend this place for those who wanna try a different twist to your everyday American influence. read more

We come here for bubble tea, papaya salad freshly made in front of us and the crown jewel in our family is Golden Cuisine. It's the vendor we frequent for their amazing crispy pork belly, sausage, sticky rice, and sometimes their fried chicken. My kids love it and look forward to going and it's something we crave and try to make a point to go once or twice a month! There are a number of vendors with their stalls chock full of clothing, toys, and shoes inside and in warmer months outdoor vendors added as well. We truly love coming here and it's a family fun event for us as well as a treat when it's just my boyfriend and I as well. To my surprise, I was not expecting an hmong indoor/outdoor market here in Minn. I was here exploring the three enormous indoor markets and a cluster of outdoor markets for all your vegetable's. Wanted to try this place for lunch and was there for the first time with some friends. We didn't know what to expect. A full parking lot. People walking in and out of buildings. Where exactly are you suppose to go? We did what we were good at and that was following our noses. After wandering around we came upon our third set of doors to a building and opened the entrance, immediately we were blasted by the smell of fried foods. We looked at each other and nodded. "This is it." There is definitely a lot going on inside the buildings. Shops and vendors selling everything from medicinal herbs, clothing, to the latest chinese kung fu dvd. Everywhere we walked it was hard not to run or bump into another person -- which seemed entirely normal because no one was offended, they just went about doing there thing. IT'S A GREAT EXPERIENCE! I will gladly knock down a few tiny asians to get to my food. It definitely did bring a bit of nostalgic feelings from being in a real marketplace in southeast Asia except you're indoors. The farmer's market did appear to have a lot of fresh vegetables and tropical fruits. But, let's talk about the food vendors... Do you feel like fried pork belly or chicken wings. Well there are about 5 different places you can get this at. The pork belly was chewy and delicious with crispy rinds still attached. Gimme dat hot sauce and I'm good to go. We also ordered the fried shrimp which was a pretty good deal. Not sure how fresh the shrimp was but who cares it was fried LOL. The beef larb was meh. I ended up eating only a bit of it and tossed the rest of it away. The food for me is not the greatest since I've grown up eating these types of comfort food. However, it does have nice variety from meat dishes to soups that reminds me of mom's/grandma's kitchen. You can get better versions of these types of food at actual restaurants around the Twin Cities. But for a quick bite to eat after walking around the marketplace you really can't complain. For me, this place was more for the experience than the food itself which is why I give it 4 stars. Not sure when I would go back or feel the need to.
