They've started…read morerunning tea society group tea sessions, and last Friday was a brilliant in-store breakfast for the launch of their new Hobart Breakfast tea. Everyone was very excited about tea. Today when I went in, their ambassador came over to help me out with a couple of questions and then noted that she'd missed me at their first tea society session. It was creepy (as we've not really been properly introduced) but also flattering (because I love feeling like a regular). I can't wait to get along to their next tea society session, and I'll be sure not to miss it next time! Current favourite teas (including but not limited to): Hobart Breakfast, White White Cocoa, Southern Sunrise, Red Choc Mint, Monk Pear and Gone Surfing. Oh yeah.

She was just reaching to take a tea to the counter when a staff member plonked a ladder right in front of her to get another customers tea. When she got to the counter with her tea the staff completely ignored her until she had to point herself out. I do, however, love their Hobart Breakfast and all their teas are wonderful.

They menu sports lots of interesting sounding items and perhaps we made a poor choice. Our chocolate milkshake wasn't quite what we were expecting and we were a bit underwhelmed. While beautiful looking, it was really just chocolate milk with a heap of whipped cream on top-not the thick rich predominantly ice cream treat of the states. So had we chosen something different, perhaps I could have given a bit higher ranting. Note: order andd pay at the counter, get a number then they bring the food to your table

With a mix of old favourites and new creations all whipped up in-house, you won't walk out of here disappointed--even if you're not a sweets fan, because there's also a small selection of savoury items like sandwiches and rolls available. One of the best corners of the shop is the ice-cream window, and yes, all frozen goods are made in-house as well. Let crazy flavours like butter beer be your guide. Yes, you can even get away with asking for a sample spoon of a couple of flavours (but don't get too greedy). There are a few tables both inside and outside if you'd like to stop in for morning or afternoon tea (hot and cold beverages are also available), but don't be scared to get some precious cargo to take away instead (or as well!).

We took a focaccia home but sat in store to enjoy a short Mac and flat white. We had the Lexington pancake - out of curiosity really and the PB&J cupcake. The Lexington pancake had cream, lemon curd and a berry compote tart. Yummy is the best way to describe it but the lavender flavoured cream was a bit overpowering - probably just not used to it. Coffee was alright and helped me continue on our food nerd journey through Hobart! All things were reasonably priced too by our Sydneysider standards of usually paying too much for not as good! Definitely recommend this to anyone visiting Hobart!

For breakfast however, it wasn't very good for me as there were very limited lower carb/higher protein items. We ordered an almond croissant and a sausage and shiraz roll along with a flat white coffee. We sat outside as they didn't have the AC running and it was really way too warm inside. They have table service inside and servers that run out the food you had ordered at the counter. They were all super friendly and even asked if everything was satisfactory as they cleared our table. Unfortunately, neither of the baked goods were great. The almond croissant had a nicely laminated dough although it needed a tad of salt. The dough was buttery however lacking flavor most likely due to a lack of salt in the butter they used in the dough. The filling was almost like really dense cake batter with basically no almond flavor - the texture seemed almost right, maybe they forgot the almond paste or almond extract. We are used to a much, much stronger flavored almond croissant with almond paste inside. There were nicely toasted almond slices on the top. The sausage roll was a real disappointment. Although it looked really nice it was very heavy, seemed greasy and had two fundamental flaws. The dough was too thick around the sausage so when they wrapped it and baked it there was way too much dough and it was actually nearly raw all along the bottom edges. The sausage was not crumbled or taken out of the casing so when you bit through the roll (or even cut it as we did) the entire sausage slipped right out of the dough and left a big empty hole! It did have nice caramelized onions and some herbs or spinach (didn't eat enough to know exactly!) between the dough and sausage - they might have contributed to the wet/raw sogginess of the dough if they were not cooked enough and then released water into the dough. They were very gracious when I asked if I could get a refund for the sausage roll as I could not find anything else I wanted to get as a replacement. Our server could not have been any more professional and nice about it. He got approval from his manager and gave us the refund. The flat white was very good. If I needed to eat some lovely desserts I'd give them another try given their professional staff and good service.

Inside the Henry Jones Hotel, there is a little coffee shop that I walked by several mornings. I…read morewas waiting on others to get ready so I decided to walk across the street and explore. After passing by the art gallery and the souvenir store, I decided to get an early pick me up. Went to the counter and ordered and espresso. Service was great: polite and quick... just the way I liked it. I noticed that they sold the Tasmanian plush toys raising funds for the fire relief efforts (a noble cause). They have pastries and all sorts of coffee drinks available. For those who want a full on breakfast, you can grab that in the back. I only had my coffee here this morning and unfortunately the beans were a little too acidic for me. All in all, a great little place next to our hotel (Macq01) so I know where to go if I needed to grab something quick in the morning!

The coffee is pretty good too. The Breakfast Tostada however, lacked flavour. Scrambled egg, tomato, avocado, chorizo and tortilla is right up my alley but it just didn't work together - even with a giant chorizo sausage as the main flavour.

This could just be because I was (and still am) morally opposed to you…read morespelling "café" as "kafe"--look, I spent ten years refusing to set foot in the "music kafe" in Brisbane--but you were open and you were right near somewhere I'd just shopped and needed to drop, so in I went for some lunch. Kara, that menu item that I settled on--don't call it a "chicken salad". You're fooling everyone. I almost skimmed right over it because I didn't feel like a salad. It's not a salad; it's a slice of heaven. Cold soba noodles and a delicious sauce and I haven't stopped craving it since I first ate it. The coffee was also excellent and the service was SO FRIENDLY! HELLO! Beautiful high ceilings and a lovely design, too. I'll be back, Kara! Though I'd still prefer it if you changed your name.

Don't be put off by they way they spell cafe - Kafe Kara is an excellent little spot for lunch in…read morethe CBD. Their food is excellent and the coffee good (if a little bitter - depends on your tastes). The cafe itself is long and narrow, disguising the amount of seating available from the street, so it is worth wandering in even if they 'look full'. It's probably worth noting that the cafe can be a bit noisy at kitchen end (out the back) and the tables are fairly small, so you won't have a lot of room for gadgets and your lunch :)

We were staying just above the wharf and spent about 20 minutes walking over. They had a great array of crusty, sweet and savory pastries, pies, and breakfast items. Perhaps the most impressive thing was the fact that their list of specials took up an entire chalkboard. Everything from sweet rolls too, wallaby and rabbit, pie, to some delicious eggs Benedict and a big English breakfast. They had something for everybody, and everything was really good! The place is housed in a relatively old building with a lot of character! Not so old that you're worried that you would find petrified things in the wall, but old enough that you definitely know the place has had a chance to fall over and won't. The staff was really nice, took great care of us and found us seats very quickly, despite the place being busy. All in all, this is a must check out spot whenever you are in town!

Coffee was good - nice surprise. The roll when it arrived had been toasted and was good. Worth trying - inexpensive- hope you have better service.
