This store used to be, years ago, "Ben Franklin" which was a fabric and craft store franchise, which no longer exists other than as a brand name which can be used for a fee. The owner, Dawn (a charming and hospitable lady who told me exactly where to find everything I asked about) explained that they didn't care to do so, and the store has been Fourman's Variety for quite some time. And variety is what you will find in this very large and thoughtfully arranged shop. Everything from spices and kitchenware, puzzles and games for all ages, school supplies and stationery, to greeting cards, gift wrap, housewares, pool supplies, pet needs, seasonal decor, giftable items, and a full aisle of candy with many nostalgic classics. PLUS a whole room of fabrics and sewing accessories, and a wall or two of crafting supplies. And....tons of used books for sale! Prices were quite reasonable throughout. Store is open six days a week, parking on the street. I am thrilled to have found this great variety store. Honestly, do you really want to spend your money at Dollar General or Walmart? With over 80,000 square feet of space and more than 350 unique vendors, Antiques Village is one of the largest antique malls in the region, located on Lyons Road in Centerville. My partner, his family, and I stopped by last Sunday at this very well-organized establishment. One can see the dedication of the vendors to bring in quality pieces and fair prices. Bell serves all the right purposes: they sell comic singles, collections and books; they sell gaming cards and accessories, board games, novelties, snacks, and even have a selection of fantasy and scifi books which I consider a bonus in a comic shop. Did I mention the dedicated gaming space? The greater Dayton area is blessed with a lot of shops of this nature but they all have various strengths and weaknesses. Bell has a certain homey feeling that not all the shops around here can replicate. Although I love Maverick's, and I'm fond of Epic Loot, Bell has become my comic stop of choice on Fridays after work (since they stay open late on that day!). I read the other reviews on Yelp and I can understand why some people aren't entirely satisfied, but this shop does everything I need it to, and often does more. Someone mentioned that John is sometimes less than approachable. To that I would say that he is one of a small handful of staff members, and it's entirely likely that he has his stressed out days just like anyone else. I've never seen him be outright rude to a customer. Hell, one night as a teenager I wandered in there after they closed because I didn't see the sign, I misheard him when he said they were closed, and despite my stupidly barging in he let me browse anyway without any trouble. No shop can be everything to everyone. For me though, this one is wonderful. I highly recommend it.
