Swung by to renew my membership and get the kiddos some Kumon workbooks and whatever they wanted. I only encountered two staff members, the lady at the counter who renewed my membership and another lady in the Starbucks area (BTW, they don't have my beloved lemon pound cake, but you should try their red velvet cheesecake or the oreo stack...both of which aren't as sweet as they look "perhaps I should book a dental appt w/ all these sweets I've had this week alone") both of which were very friendly. I was just in here looking to kill some time. The store itself is overwhelming with all kinds of stuff in a good way. They are reasonably priced in some things and have brand name stuff as well. Ensure to read their helpful hints to get the most money for your items like having them freshly washed, sorted, no torn items, and toys are wiped down. Parking can be a nightmare as it's in a strip mall so you may have to wall a little bit.

I found just that at the locally-owned Playthings Toy Shoppe in the Westport Village! Oh how I love to support locally-owned businesses! I was pleased to browse the aisles and find that they were chock full of unusual, traditional, and more educational toys than I had found in the toy sections of the big box stores where brands like Barbie, Transformers, Paw Patrol and Stars Wars make up the bulk of the offerings. The toys were thoughtfully arranged, as if by age, and employees are ready to help with your selection if need be. Prices were in line with those of online specialty toy stores that sell these types of toys. Free gift wrapping is offered, which is a huge relief for those of us who do not enjoy gift wrapping! And like my other experience, I found this Playthings to be a great locally-owned toy shop. The prices were fair, and it excels at having educational toys and brands you might not find at the big box stores, which I very much appreciated. My son is into dinosaurs for the moment, so I went on Playthings' website and found a great set of dino figures. I was able to buy it online for local pick-up, and the icing on the cake -- I got it wrapped for free. Free wrapping is a service Playthings provides. I also want to commend Playthings on their great customer service. I ordered this right as the ice storm was starting, and they called me to see if I wanted to still pick up that day. The employee I talked to was concerned I would come out when they had closed early. I picked up the toy a couple of days later. Especially if you have kiddos to buy for, don't overlook Playthings.

I always frequent the kids clearance area to look for deals for my kids as they grow so fast so why pay full price for something when you can get a deep discount especially if they will outgrow it in a few months (if we are lucky). I can't wait to go back. As an adult, I still love a good toy store. My daughter and I just wanted to stop by "for a minute", but we ended up staying a lot longer. Need a gift for a child?
