I'm leaving this review to help others understand who they dealing with before committing. I don't like negative reviews, but it's important to share my experience. Ben Ikuta wasted 2 years and ruined my case. After taking me as a client nothing was done for 2 years. A week before trial he informed me that he's dropping the case. From day one he was so incredibly rude and insensitive I was speechless. He acted like I'm the defendant and he is not on my side. He gave me anxiety. I kept tolerating his toxic behavior because I hoped that he would be very aggressive in court with the respondent. My case involved very significant injury to a child. Ikuta was confused about all the facts, made me re-live the horrors of that day during every meeting. He gave me chills and frustration after every single time I talked to him. He made me feel uncomfortable. According to him, he lost every case with hospitals so he was afraid to deal with them in court. He failed to even file paperwork correctly and withheld information from me. I hope this review helps others. If I saw something like this I would never seek Ben Ikuta's legal services in the first place. I'm upset with myself for wasting 2 years dealing with his incompetence and behavior. Dan Hodes Milman and Jacob Brender were exceptional in advocating for our family and obtaining a substantial award for my brother! My brother had a stroke causing hemiparalysis on the right side of his body and aphasia/apraxia as a result of medical mal-practice related to a surgery performed on him. My family hired Ben Ikuta for a real estate dispute that went to trial a few months ago. Without getting too into details, it was a we said/they said situation with the other side having slightly more advantage then we did. However, Ben was confident that he could win our case. He was always a pleasure to work with, was responsive, and gave our case a wagonload of attention. Ben's eye for detail was highly impressive - when going through our documents he was able to spot evidence that we had overlooked, or didn't think was significant. He did an incredible job in court, and was able to persuade the judge to rule completely in our favor. My family is also acquainted with a retired judge, and at some point during our case we asked him what he thought about our chances. At the time he gave a kind of non-committal answer, which we understood because it really could have gone either way, but after he heard that we won the trial he sought my family out to congratulate us and to admit that he actually DIDN'T think we could have won with the little evidence we had, and said we must have had a good lawyer! I would like to start by saying to anyone, like I, who has never been a party to a lawsuit and is genuinely in need of a good medical malpractice attorney, PLEASE STAY FAR AWAY FROM HMLM. Daniel Hodes ended up being the attorney who destroyed my viable medical malpractice case. I found out that a sketchy surgeon (whom I put all of my trust into ) was recommending major spine surgeries. I TRUSTED HIM. (Hypocratac oath means nothing anymore ). This surgeon ended up leaving medical equipment inside of my body and closed me up. I ALMOST DIED. I was smart enough to get a copy of all of my operative reports, which are legal documents, and I was totally shocked to learn the reason for my MRSA and emergency surgeries and hospitalizations was right there in the operative report, signed and reviewed by the surgeon. It stated that medical tubing had been left in my body. I saw a commercial on TV and it was one that pertained to my situation so I called. After sending in the operative report HMLM CONTACTED ME. Then attorney Daniel Hodes got involved and gave me what I now know was FALSE HOPE. I honestly had to stay on him just to get him to work on my case. He even accused me of being a "Schizophrenic junkie " I have never been so disrespected and looked at like I was less than in my life. I have had 8 major spine surgeries and every single surgery that the quack in question did,had to be completely RE DONE by a competent specialist. I always felt that Dan Hodes at HMLM was trying to just blow me off. So, after YEARS of dealing with Dan Hodes, the only thing he could then guarantee me was that it should be no problem to get $xx,ooo per each defendant, because he said that this would avoid going to court & it would make me go away. Hodes said there was lack of proof. OPERATIVE REPORTS THAT ARE REVIEWED AND SIGNED BY THE SURGEON ARE LEGAL DOCUMENTS. Hodes got nervous and told me it's in my best interest to write my own letter of dismissal of the lawsuit because he didn't want to go to trial, he didn't think defense wanted to pay anything and he is LAZY. Hodes just cherry picks his cases and only is interested in the easiest cases that will get him paid with very little effort. After my case was closed, I got a notice from the post office that I had some packages waiting. I was appalled and slapped in the face to see 2 big boxes of THEIR OWN PAPERWORK. HMLM said, "Sorry, we just don't have any room in which to store our closed cases. I could not believe that this cherry picking law firm not only destroyed a viable case, but they also had the audacity to expect me to store their own paperwork. HMLM IS A SELFISH, SELF -SERVING, CHERRY PICKING FIRM. RUN INTO THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION IF THEY CALL YOU, BECAUSE ALL THEY DID WAS INSULT ME AND WASTE MY TIME. I was referred to this law office& I trusted I would be in good hands because of who sent me there. Truth is, my experiences was terrible. I was told my case& documents would be reviewed. However, I was not provided a fax or email to send my papers. I left several voicemails for Kristin. I was doing more of the checking in than they were. I then received an email from Alyssa stating my case would not be reviewed. It is troubling for me when cases are time limited& 2 different people are giving you different information. So I called to clarify as to what was going on& it seemed as though they lacked communication among each other &/or are not organized. Hodes-the lawyer then called me to tell me I had asked he call me back& that was his reason for calling me (I didn't-I was expecting a call back from Valerie). The miscommunication to me was incredible. He shared they would not be able to help me (though they never reviewed my case). I expressed I didn't understand how things had played out the way they did. I let him know I was told yes& now it's confusing that I'm being told no. All he said was sorry without really giving me a solid explanation. I tried to share that I had made a few calls& he seemed defensive as he stated I had just called earlier in the month. If they answered their phones& had better communication among employees then he'd know that I had started calling in March. I wasted weeks with this office& the overall experience was just bad.
