Dr. Jan was incredibly sweet and very helpful, but I can't say the same about the other people in the office. Even still, I decided to move forward with it because he needed the cavity filled. On the day of the appointment, I felt rushed by the office. When he was done and they came and got me, I walked in to my son's arms being unstrapped by his wrists to the chair (which I was NOT thrilled about!) The worst part was, after the procedure, my son was still (obviously) very out of it. Dr. Jan requested that we stay in one of the rooms for a bit since my son kept trying to bite his lips. She asked her assistant to check on us every 5 minutes or so to make sure we were doing OK. Then, the tech who worked there wheeled my four-year-old into the office and while I was bending down to pick up a tissue off the floor (so I had my back to him) walked out of the room without telling me. My son was loopy and tried to get out of the wheelchair and stand up , and fell and hit his face/head on the floor!! He was screaming, and I was trying to console him so couldn't leave. No one came and checked on us for 25 minutes. Eventually I had to put my son back in the wheelchair, open the door and ask someone at the desk to have the assistant come in so I can talk with her. When she came in, and I told her what had happened, she just kind of brushed it off. A few minutes later, Dr. Jan came in to check on him, and although she was a little bit more attentive, I do feel she underplayed the situation as well. She asked her assistant to go get him an ice pack, and that was it. The person who let my kid fall out of the chair, never came in to say anything. I don't know how you let a four year-old fall out of a chair and hit his face and think it's OK, but it's NOT OKAY with me and I want other parents to be aware.

The issue is finally resolved, and I made an appointment for my daughter two weeks or more ahead of schedule. I called to confirm the appointment, confirm the insurance, and let them know a different family member would be taking her. My family member showed up with my daughter only to be told they wouldn't see her- again because of insurance. When I called to find out what was going on, I asked to speak to the office manager or the person who handled the insurance, which I know to be a woman. Instead, after some whispering the young man who answered the phone came back on claiming to be said person. I was then told that someone tried to contact me and cancel the appointment but my mailbox was full. There were NO MISSED CALLS of any kind, my voicemail box WAS NOT FULL, and even if that were the case there is a secondary number and email to reach me. Smile Express knew full well their contract with HBCBS would be ending September 1, and my appointment was scheduled for September 2. Their attempt to contact me was on August 29th.
