I don't think I would go here again. For starters, I felt I wasn't given enough information about the procedure beforehand, especially since this was the first time I was going to be sedating my child for a dental procedure. Dr. Jan was incredibly sweet and very helpful, but I can't say the same about the other people in the office. Even still, I decided to move forward with it because he needed the cavity filled. On the day of the appointment, I felt rushed by the office. When he was done and they came and got me, I walked in to my son's arms being unstrapped by his wrists to the chair (which I was NOT thrilled about!) The worst part was, after the procedure, my son was still (obviously) very out of it. Dr. Jan requested that we stay in one of the rooms for a bit since my son kept trying to bite his lips. She asked her assistant to check on us every 5 minutes or so to make sure we were doing OK. Then, the tech who worked there wheeled my four-year-old into the office and while I was bending down to pick up a tissue off the floor (so I had my back to him) walked out of the room without telling me. My son was loopy and tried to get out of the wheelchair and stand up , and fell and hit his face/head on the floor!! He was screaming, and I was trying to console him so couldn't leave. No one came and checked on us for 25 minutes. Eventually I had to put my son back in the wheelchair, open the door and ask someone at the desk to have the assistant come in so I can talk with her. When she came in, and I told her what had happened, she just kind of brushed it off. A few minutes later, Dr. Jan came in to check on him, and although she was a little bit more attentive, I do feel she underplayed the situation as well. She asked her assistant to go get him an ice pack, and that was it. The person who let my kid fall out of the chair, never came in to say anything. I don't know how you let a four year-old fall out of a chair and hit his face and think it's OK, but it's NOT OKAY with me and I want other parents to be aware. read more

The quality of care is excellent. The doctors and hygienists are very accommodating to children. There is an aquarium in the waiting room,along with tablets and tv's to keep children entertained. The exam rooms themselves are clean and equipped with tablets. The hygienist put on one of my son's favorite tv shows before the examination which helped to settle any anxiousness. The doctor also ensured that she examined both of my son's on the day of their appointments, which was an added bonus. I came here as a kid and at 21 I'm still traumatized by the way I was drugged and handled by these people, specially doctor max, they strongly suggested I be lightly sedated, however the medication they gave me on multiple visits completely knocked me out, sometimes I would be somewhat conscious at first but memory blacked out, immediately not in control of my body, I would have to be carried out to the car everytime, one time I was so loopy I started chewing on my cheeks and still have scars, the very first time I was scared to take this mystery medicine that to this day I don't know what it was exactly I can only assume it was a benzodiazepine by its effect, DOCTOR MAX grabbed my extremely painful jaw that needed a root canal and pulled upward, I yelped in pain and he threw the medicine in my mouth, everything I've read about this type of sedation says I should have been somewhat conscious, and able to communicate, if they tried to wake me up I should have, yet I would be completely out as if they gave me way too much and they did this on 2-3 separate occasions, please please please do not take your child here even another review mentioned the doped up kids, my parent wasn't allowed with me either, who knows what goes on when your child is completely unconscious with a grown man who basically assaulted a child to get her to take medicine to knock her out, even if it was for a procedure disgusting behavior from a doctor, even after I just posted this I read multiple reviews with the same story as me, you people should be ashamed read more

Very disappointed! I called the office to get an appointment with an Endodontist. Receptions and Shakira handling the appointments are extremely nice. They asked me to have my dentist send over the X-rays to have the doctor look at them to see if he can preform my root canal because my dentist wasn't able to do it and said I needed to go to an Endodonist. The Endodonist at this location confirmed that he will be able to perform the root canal after viewing my X-rays. Once arriving to the office they took me into the room to get me ready for the doctor to give me anesthesia. I explained to the doctor that my general dentist wasn't able to reach my root because the canal was very deep and that was why she referred me to an Endodonist. Once I told the doctor that, he put the needle down and ripped his gloves off. He made the assistant take additional X-rays and then came in and said "you seem like a very nice lady but I can't do your root canal." I was in total shock! I kept asking him why but he wouldn't give a direct answer. Although my X-rays were sent ahead of time and my file was reviewed before I was given an appointment. To my knowledge if your general dentist cannot perform a root canal after trying and realizing your canal is too deep and you need specific instruments then they send you to an Endodonist which was what my general dentist did. Why this Endodonist decided to change his mind last minute after wasting my time and making me get off work early is still not understood! read more

They push sedation for simple procedures a lot. You will see a few doped up children around the office. Don't feel like you have to do that. Also, they tell you to get there early yet somehow you end up waiting for a simple cleaning even at 9am. read more

My daughters absolutely love coming to the dentist, thanks to Tender Smiles 4 Kids! The hygienists have always been very kind and patient with them, right from their first visit. I love how they don't just talk to me about caring for their teeth, they talk to my daughters about proper brushing and flossing too. Sometimes just hearing from an outside source other than a parent really makes a difference! My youngest daughter had to have 2 cavities filled and was very nervous and anxious due to her age. The doctor suggested using something a little extra (oral sedation) to help relax her and make her more comfortable for the visit, and I think it really helped! She remembers her visit now as being a pleasant one, and looks forward to going back to get her teeth cleaned again. You can tell that the facility is well-maintained and that the staff really cares about the environment they work in. My first visit and my last to this office. The front staff is friendly and courteous. The doctor we saw was Dr. Liya Ostrow she is very unprofessional and rude. Briefly comes in to the room to tell us our son needs surgery does not want to answer any questions we had and treated us like we are some third world citizens. Her secretary comes in after to do her job. Never again with this dentist. As a doctor you should be more professional and caring especially when dealing with peoples children. I always used a private dentist but my insurance changed so I had to find one my ex husbands accepted I found it on Google. DO NOT TRUST THEM WITH YOUR CHILDREN. THEY DO NOT TRULY CARE ABOUT CHILDREN. My son has been coming here for years. Last Friday, he had an appointment but when I picked him up from school, he was sick(asthma). I called about 30 minutes before the appointment and asked if they could ask the dentist if it was a good idea to bring him in since he was sick and was going to get two teeth pulled. The dentist said if I wasn't comfortable with it, I could cancel, so I did. The next day I took my son to urgent care, and he had a 102 temperature. On Monday I took my son to the doctor, and he had 103 temperature and had an ear infection. He had been coughing and running a fever since Friday, the day he was supposed to have the dental work done. That same Monday(today) I called to reschedule his dental work and was told by Rose or Rosie (the office manager) that my son was dismissed from the office because I had cancelled an appointment in 2019, 2021, and now 2022 and it was office policy. I explained that he has asthma and like most children, he gets sick sometimes. Why would anyone want a sick person in a dentist office? Rose or Rosie called me a liar. My son has an underlying health condition, and this is discrimination. Rose or Rosie had no compassion or understanding. If you work with children and have half a brain, you'd know that they get sick at the last minute so you can't always give 24 hours' notice. At this point, I'm feeling that my child has been discriminated against. Since I have proof that he has been sick and to the doctors, even though Rose or Rosie called me a liar, I might pursue legal action. The owner is heartless and irresponsible for having a policy that encourages people to bring sick children in for appointments for fear that they'll be banned from the practice. DO NOT WORK WITH CHILDREN IF YOU HAVE NO COMPASSION AND DON'T UNDERSTAND THAT THEY GET SICK. Wow. This place is fricking amazing. The building is a work of art, it's slightly like being inside a Dr. Seuss or Woody Allen's Sleepers. Makes me want to be a kid and go there. Awesome details like multi-texture and color rugs swatches, prize drawer for kids to pick from, chocolate "tooth paste", iPads preloaded w games built into the wall, wall size fish tank window w lionfish, beautiful exterior and cool modern light fixtures. If you're planning to take your child here- TURN AROUND!!!! Go elsewhere. There isn't a reason why a child should have to be sedated for any reason. Stop pushing it!! The first visit was great- the dental hygienist worked well with my daughter and I was blown away. Then when I found out my daughter had cavities they explained to me that a parent cannot be in the room during the procedure. (As a new Mom, I didn't know any better) so I allowed it. Something didn't feel right in my gut. On the day of my daughters appointment for her fillings, we went in and they gave her sedation medication according to her weight. Within minutes she was like a vegetable and unresponsive. It was traumatizing to watch. If you think that's bad, they came and took her away for the procedure where they strap her down and start working on her. I don't know what is going on because they don't allow parents in the room (terrifying and shouldn't be legal) The doctor comes out- and says "please come with us" I knew something wasn't right. My daughter was soaked- she wet herself, puked and was hyperventilating hysterical crying. This is the most traumatizing way to fill anyone's teeth let alone a child that is 3!!! My daughter is now 6. We now go to a wonderful place called "Adult and Pediatric Dental Studio" in Manalapan and have for the last 3 years. After a traumatic experience my daughter loves going here. After such a great 3 years with them I felt that I had to write this review to help parents like you to make the right decision for your children. Actually both of my kids love it. The kids don't even know when they are getting work done on their teeth because the staff does such a great job distracting and interacting with the kids. The parents are aloud in the room no matter what is going on. PLEASE DO NOT BRING YOUR KIDS TO TENDER SMILES. IT'S THE MOST TRAUMATIZING DENTIST OFFICE THAT LOOKS BEAUTIFUL ON THE OUTSIDE. **Zero Stars** My son had an appointment with the pediatric dentist. They did a couple of fillings. He was instructed to raise his hand at any time he was uncomfortable, which he did a couple times. The doctor then proceeded to pull me outside and tell me that he needed to be put under for the rest of the procedure. Because he raised his hand too much. Then the news (a couple weeks ago) that that little girl died at the dentist office. I called them back and told them I wasn't comfortable knocking my son out on norcotics (benzodiazepines)and not being allowed in the room! They proceeded to tell me that I can find another dentist! You put your trust in people like this that you think are having your best interest in mind. From what I have gathered, they care nothing about the patients, they care only about the money. When you're feeling uneasy, or questioning them, the answer from the head nurse Robin is go "find another dentist"! Save your children the pain and the danger, go somewhere else! read more

From the very first visit we were just taken back by the clean and fun facility. The nurses and front desk ladies especially Rose were all so welcoming. The dentist was so great with my 3 year old and baby and they both did so well with him. Our follow up for the 3 year old had us very nervous as it was a procedure. After speaking to our insurance and Rose regarding the financial part of things we were explained in great detail what was and was not covered by our insurance and our options for payment including a very affordable internal payment plan with the office. As nervous as I was about the sedation the Dentists personally called us and took time to explain to us what our options are and what they are suggesting we do and why. With all of the information and statistics and examples given we felt so comfortable going into the procedure. We were scheduled with Dr. Smita Lad who was so sweet and made our son so comfortable. Our toddler after the procedure did very well recovering and the Dentist and assistants took so much time giving us all of the information needed for the recovery and what we should expect. Our son was so comfortable he tells everyone that his Dr fixed all his teeth and he loves her. The best part is they called us to check on Adam and too see if we have any other questions which means so much to us. Tender Smiles 4 Kids has really gone downhill. Dr. Max Sulla is wonderful and the other female dentist in the office is good. However, the majority of his support staff is terrible. They are rude, impersonal, and not supportive. The business is at the stage where staff feels like they "got it like that" and if customers leave, oh well. So, that is exactly what I plan to do. Unfortunately, the quality of the dentists cannot counteract the rudeness of the many other people around them, and these are the people who you talk to on the phone and assist in the room. read more

Both of my kids go for dental and orthodontist care at Tender Smiles for Kids office. Dr. Sulla and his staff are very knowledgeable and very professional. The pre-emptive approach avoided the need for cavities for my kids. I have been going to this dentist office for years and so has my family. I am 30 years old so you can just imagine how long it has been. I started bringing my son when he was one years old when Dr Halofsky was there. He was amazing. No complaints at all, until now and Dr Halofsky has since then retired. I have no issues with the doctor but I have issues with the staff. Now you can imagine my son who had his first visit young had no idea about a dentist. His dental hygienist at the time was very rude and had no patience. I believe that you need to have patience especially with children. No matter how many times I complained, I would get the same dental hygienist. Ever since then he has been afraid of going. Can you blame him? Today we had a routine check up and he had this amazing dental hygienist Christina. She explained everything to him and was very kind and patient. My son is very well behaved, he is just afraid of this dentist because of past experiences. Then the visit was over and we go to make his new appointment for 6 months and the woman at the desk says what's her name? and I'm like who? She called my son a SHE because he has medium length curly hair. You can definitely notice that he is a boy. Now mind you she has been with this dental office since I went when I was a child. She knows myself, family and definitely my son who has now been going there twice a year for almost 5 years! I felt that is was very unprofessional. We had a horrible experience with this doctor and his staff. My child has sensitivity issues and their staff tried their best at first. Only one of the nurses kept calm, the rest seemed agitated. They clearly don't know how to handle children with any issues. They got tired of trying to calm my child down. They told me to leave the room. Dr. Sulla told me he was going to do it "his way." I should have never left. Dr. Sulla came out and told me it took 5 of his people to hold my child down. He said it with a smile. There is nothing funny about that. My child was traumatized by this experience and the dentist was smiling. Sick man. Should not be practicing. read more

"Jrock6420 S." should be banned from leaving reviews, as OBVIOUSLY there is something wrong with her/him. :-( After reading their review of Tender Smiles 4 Kids, I was a nervous wreck (TOTALLY, unlike me) to take my 7 yr. old Son to Tender Smiles 4 Kids! :-( I ACTUALLY told my Son (who had to change Dentists, due to an insurance change after his Father recently passed away) that we "may" leave, IF we don't like ANYTHING. Within minutes of arriving, I realized that "Jrock6420 S." does NOT need Dental Help, but Mental Help "may" be of assistance. The Staff was unbelievably nice & competent; the waiting room was a well designed fun atmosphere that put the Children at ease; & the Dentist was well educated & skilled, caring, & supportive. I left Tender Smiles 4 Kids begging for them to accept me, as a patient & having to promise my Son that we would come back EARLY for his FIRST dental procedure (fillings), so he can play prior. From the numerous iPads loaded with games in the waiting room, the HUGE fish tank that divides the waiting room from the Hygenists' Suite, individual t.v.s mounted above the chairs, & toys given to the Children after their appointment, it was an AMAZINGLY positive experience. Oops, I forgot the big screen t.v. in the waiting room & the guessing game (a large jar of items) that Children guess the quantity to win a $20. gift card for Toys r' Us. I TRULY hope that "Jrock6420 S." gets the help that she/he needs, prior to posting another review! You may be interested to know that "Jrock" posted 6 reviews with 4 businesses receiving JUST 1 star & "supposedly" resides in Sweden (suspicious to me).
