Honestly, this is hands-down still after all these years, my favourite Ramen spot in Toronto. Given that there are so many different Ramen spots in Toronto that have popped up since I reviewed this the first time I am so impressed that they're still so delicious and one of the top things I crave. In my latest visit, I came here during my lunch hour, and it was actually pretty full on a random Tuesday. I noticed that they had a lunch special that included three pieces of Gyoza, which could be either pork or vegetable and then it also comes with one of their soft boiled tea eggs All for about $30 after tax and tip a little steep for a downtown lunch outside of the regular financial district, but the Ramen is so good I can't complain. The restaurant inside is everything that I still remember it to be small tight quarters but very cozy.

Came here with two friends, and we were lucky enough to get a table immediately. I got the negi meshi bowl combo with miso ramen and an asahi for happy hour. The beer was very nice and frothy, a great pour. The rice was alright, nothing special. The ramen was not the greatest though, the noodles were soggy and that made the whole bowl less enjoyable.

This ramen joint was fairly authentic as it was ran by an entirely Japanese staff, who were welcoming and efficient. I ordered the tsukemen, dipping ramen, with less fat and although it was quite tasty, the broth was a little too water-downed to be dipped into. I wonder if it's because I asked for less lard. The noodles were just a bit too al dente for me as well and needed some extra chewing. Overall, pretty tasty for when I'm craving ramen but won't be my go-to.

On a chilly winter evening, there's nothing better than a bowl of ramen to warm you up! My first visit to Hokkaido Ramen Santouka gave me quite a hearty dinner - maybe too filling, in fact. I ordered the shio ramen, which came with two slices of pork belly (a bit fattier than what I usually prefer), bamboo shoots, green onions, naruto fish cake, and sliced wood ear mushrooms. The noodles had just enough bounce & bite to them, but I felt that the soup was on the heavier and saltier side. And so, it left me feeling a bit more bloated than I hoped. I think this is a matter of personal preference though, as some folks want that heartier ramen experience. My companion had the grilled salmon bowl combo with miso ramen. Overall, we both thought the salmon and soup were on the saltier and oilier side. To balance the richness of the soup, I think it would have been helpful to have paired it with a topping/side with more acidity and freshness. Perhaps more green onions, corn, and/or bean sprouts would have helped balanced the flavour profiles. Nevertheless, service was efficient and courteous - so if you are looking for a quick, warm, filling bite to eat, I'd still recommend coming here.

3.5/5 Food: I ordered the Miso Ramen. The noodles, black fungus, bamboo shoots and pork were pretty standard for a ramen joint, but I really enjoyed the broth - it is a bit on the saltier side though but not to the extent where it ruins the soup. Service: All of the staff are really kind! Ramen took about 5 mins to make. Also, the small size is the perfect amount of soup for a small appetite (filling though!). Ambiance: Smedium sized restaurant (tables a bit close together) but I liked the exposed brick and the little nook they have in the corner, very cutesy. Open kitchen concept but doesn't smell too strong. Washrooms are nice too!

Located right next to a parking lot, about a 10 minute walk away from Eaton Centre. The place is nice and spacious. I like how they've got big windows to bring light in. The staff was kind and service was quick. They do have a minimum spend of $10. I ordered the lunch special (available Mon-Thurs during specific hours) and got miso ramen, pork gyoza and ajitama. I found the ramen to be good, no particular complaints. The gyoza was okay, I think it could have been crispier. The ramen broth was nice, a little salty but the noodles and pork were very well done. I found their chashu to have a nice pork flavour to it. The ajitama was also really good, I think it's a really good topping to add to your ramen. It's not a runny egg but it tastes great with the ramen. I think my set came out to around $25. Overall, a good experience and I recommend it as a starting place for ramen.

I've been to santouka a few times in passing since it was convenient to where I was living. the wait times aren't usually too long so you'll get a table relatively quick which is nice. I got the miso ramen, which I found to be pretty average. the broth is pretty good but the noodle texture was lacking a bit. the ambience in the restaurant is nice and cozy.

I recently had dinner her with my friend and my boyfriend and I loved their ramen! I got the shoyu ramen and it was such a good choice. The broth was nice and rich, not too salty either, and there was definitely more than enough meat for me as well. I also got the gyoza as an appetizer, which was nicely fried. As for dessert, we each got something: the hanami dango, matcha ice cream and the peach sake affogato! Their service was really quick as well and the waitresses always checked up on us to see how we were doing! Overall the ambiance in the restaurant was very nice and cozy, I wish it was a bigger space however but for the location it's in, I think it's fine!

I haven't been back for a few years now and I now remember why. Do not order their Tsukemen, it is not worth their price point. For about $25 for this dish, I was expecting at least some big pieces of chasu or toppings on the side. But all I got was a small bowl of the dipping broth with a hard boiled egg in it and maybe 3 small pieces of pork the size of a dime. It's embarrassing to serve this dish at that price because paying that much for a bowl of ramen, it should be well worth the $25. Typically most ramen places serve their ramen with a marinated soft boiled egg, so the hard boiled egg made this dish even more sad. I could just hard boil egg myself at home and eat instant noodles. The noodles weren't anything special and the broth was just okay. Save your money and go elsewhere. Toronto has so many better ramen spots and this place should step up their game if they want to keep more customers returning with their competition. I've had way better Tsukemen with better noodles and broth. Other places also serve big pieces of chasu, more bigger toppings and an actual good soft boiled egg.

If you LOVE pork belly this ramen is for you! I personally thought the broth is a little too salty and I ate with my eyes before my stomach because 4 slices of cha-shu is a lot for me! Overall I really liked the noodles and toppings! Super friendly service. But the tables are super close together so it felt like shoulder to shoulder with the tables next to me.

I have passed by so many times and a rainy day like today was the ideal opportunity to try it for the first time. I got the shoyu ramen and it was fantastic. The true standout is the broth, which is rich with flavour that is umami and salty, but not overly salty. It tastes incredibly balanced and clean. I initially thought the regular bowl was quite small, but in the end was very satisfied. The actual noodles are on the chewier side. You also get cha shiu, nothing special but delicious. I added the marinated egg which was cooked perfectly and a perfect addition. We also got pork gyoza which were juicy and crispy. Overall, exceeded my expectations!

Hokkaido is a delicious ramen house!! The food here is amazing and is super authentic and flavorful compared to other places I've been to. They have a great selection of drinks and the egg infused broth is so tasty, hot & fresh. The seating area is pretty tight & crowded. Overall one of my favorite meals from the Toronto trip.

    Teresa V.

Been here multiple times and this was the first time I had a positive experience both food-wise and customer service! Our waitress was friendly and personable - probably the only one like this in the restaurant. The dip noodles were fantastic! I was told that the noodles would be cold but they were more room-temperature - which I think is better cuz the noodles weren't hard. The broth was so flavourful, strong umami and definitely not salty. The egg however was overcooked I would come back to eat this and only this

My friend had the King of Kings as our server said this is one of their most popular choices. I opted for the Spicy Charsu. Now I understand some people can't handle heat but I live off of Purple Tongue hot sauce which is made with some pretty hot peppers. I asked for a level one and the lady explained that the spice level on the Charsu was a whole series of levels higher than the King of Kings. I get that . Give me the heat. Anywho, she was comfortable with giving me 0.5 but said I could make it hotter if need be. Ok, better to start smaller I guess. They put some sauce on the side which I added to my bowl. Personally I found the 0.5 a nice tingle; it was good. Made my nose run. But I'm totally getting the level 1 next time. My friend however tried a sip of my broth, spit it out and said poison poison because of the heat Mind you, his King of Kings was a level 1. Which to me tasted creamy and delicious. I love a good pork bone soup and I opted for the Spicy Charsu because of the pork bone base. I loved the broth. It was perfection. The noodles were so fresh . The portion size was enormous. I kept eating and more noodles appeared. The Charsu had an amazing flavor to it . Smoky and delicious . My friend is a larger man and even he commented on the portion size saying he would be ok with a smaller size as he was so full. Good portions for your money. We also had the Gyoza and the TakoYaki. The TakoYaki was soft and loaded with the delicious sauce. The Gyoza were enormous. We were both 100% satisfied with our visit and will be back for sure.

The concerned server told me that it may be painful, but being the chili head that I am, I gladly took on the challenge. It was a larger bowl than their regular size and my ramen came topped with lots of corn, some mushrooms, bean sprouts and 6 large pieces of chasu. The broth was magma red, but it was not as spicy as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, it was spicy but not to the point where it would warrant a warning. The spicy broth tasted like a mix of Buldak sauce and Capsaicin, but didn't have much depth. I finished my ramen, broth and all and enjoyed most of the experience. The least favorite was the chasu and the egg as chasu did not taste fresh, and I could not taste the char on them at all. The egg was over-cooked and under marinated which was disappointing. It's still one of the few ramen options in Durham but can't say it's comparable to the other Kenzo locations.

Initially looked busy and thought there may be a wait, but the line was actually for the dessert place that shares the same entrance. Konjiki is good, far from great, but very solid. The broth has the right consistency with a satisfying richness, falling just a touch short of the deep, creamy intensity I personally look for. The noodles were cooked perfectly, maintaining just the right amount of bite. Nothing ruins a bowl of ramen faster than overcooked noodles. The soft-boiled egg was equally well executed, with a perfectly jammy center, and the chashu had excellent flavor and texture. My biggest criticism isn't what's missing....it's what's added. Like many ramen shops outside Japan, Konjiki includes pickled ginger, pickled takana, and braised bamboo shoots. For me, none of them improve the bowl. In fact, I think they distract from what should be the star of the show: the broth. In hindsight, I could have easily asked for them to be left out, but I've never really understood why they're included in the first place. Even so, this is a very respectable bowl of tonkotsu ramen and one I'd happily order again.
