    Mini Wonton Tuna Tacos

I cannot begin to explain how good this restaurant is. Every time I think of Hokkaido, my mouth waters and I find myself craving the food. I am lucky enough to live less than 2 miles from Hokkaido, so we eat typically eat here about twice each week. The chef and owner, who goes by Q, is a master at his craft. One time when we were eating, he showed me photos of BondST in New York where he used to be Executive Chef. If you have been fortunate enough to eat at BondST, you will understand how good Hokkaido is. While I haven't had anything that wasn't amazing at Hokkaido, I really like the Gyoza, Tuna Crispy Rice, Peanut Sauce Noodles, and the Cucumber Appetizer that always seems to find its way to our table, courtesy of Q. For something different, try the Texas Roll. It is a steak roll with rice and seaweed paper with stir fry veggies, served over a yellow curry sauce. It is damn good! When you walk into Hokkaido, your first impression is not, "Wow, hip place!" so don't fret. The place is a small shop in a strip center. It kind of reminds me of the hole-in-the-wall restaurants in San Francisco's China Town. Don't let the atmosphere fool you, the cuisine here is Top Notch! If you are in Laredo and you are looking for a great meal at a reasonable price, there is no better option than Hokkaido.

during quarantine. We called in a to go order. There is no done it. Now maybe they open for the 25 percent rule. All I recall was order the Hokkaido roll cause it's the names of the place so it must be good. At first site that roll looked really simple but taste pretty good. It's a unique twist to sushi. Imo Laredo sushi is pricey and this place price is pricier. The sushi was shorter rolls too. It's good but quantity needs to be more The yakisovba - the noodle was better than the meat. But it was okay.

Quite the surprise. This is real Japanese food and NOT the Japanese/Mexican fusion we are used to in Laredo. The shrimp tempura bento lunch ($8.99) includes miso soup, salad, 3 pieces of sushi, spring roll, steamed rice and tempura. The tempura is really good. The shrimp shumai were a little too sweet for my liking but better with a little soy sauce. The big-eye tuna tarts were good but would have been better with a little less of the mayo dressing. Really worth a visit!

Great food. Very clean but small ambience. Egg rolls were tiny. Otherwise will definitely return.

Unfortunately, Doki Doki was pretty sucky sucky overall…read more The restaurant was nice, however, it was completely empty. We were the only ones to enter the restaurant the entire time we were there. We started with the miso soup, which unfortunately was missing seaweed! Also, one of the chunks of tofu was cold on the inside. The next item we tried was the cucumber salad with crab. No complaint here - it was good. Next came edamame. It was ok, but slightly soggy and slightly undersalted. Finally, the entrèe. A rainbow roll and a bentoish plate with a California roll, 2 pieces of nigiri, fried rice, and fried dumplings. I blame myself for not reading the description properly, but holy crap that was alot of carbs on one plate! Unfortunately, the salmon didn't taste the freshest and I actually spit out a piece of the tuna; immediately ending my meal. In conclusion, half a star for service. Our waiter was very attentive. And half a star for effort. At least Doki Doki tried to place a nice Japanese oasis in the culinary desert of Laredo.

Food: very disappointed. Ordered the Steak Teriyaki and got BOILED VEGETABLES AND BOILED MEAT. THE MEAT WAS TENDER BUT looked and tasted like it was boiled NOT STIR FRIED. The fried rice, lacked spices, and was not at all as tasty as I thought it was going to be. Service: although the weight staff was very friendly, sadly when I asked for a beer and it was WARM and I did not get a glass with ice until I asked for it 3 times. Ambiance. Needs local music and local ambiance. Be proud of your city and its roots. Laredo is a beautiful city, and people should be proud of where where they are from. My personal opinion. What sets apart a restaurant is, it's seasoning and flavor that the cooking staff bring into their food. Sadly, they don't have it at the moment. I know that there are good. Talented chefs in Laredo, and that this place will understand and try to find them to make them better.
