We decided we would give Holiday Inn Express the challenge for our vacation. Traveling over 5,000 miles requires several nights of a good rest. I have to say, we have been very impressed with them. They have all had a hot breakfast ready in the morning. Plus a to go bag for those items such as bagels & muffins. Each room also has a Keurig and a microwave, so if you get in late you can purchase a microwaveable something from the little snack store to heat up. Very convenient.

Thanks to the Bakken boom, there are quite a few hotel and motel options in Glendive. Price wise, the Holiday Inn may be towards the top of the scale - but you get what you pay for. I posted quite a few pictures so you can see the room itself, including the bathroom. First, the good: the bed was comfortable, the room was large, and you have a refrigerator, sink, coffee machine, and microwave in the kitchenette. Breakfast is free, and the options are great: fresh fruit, cereal, pancakes, waffles, muffins, cinnamon rolls, biscuits and gravy, eggs, bacon, sausage... plus coffee, juice, and dairy. I'm sure I a forgetting a few things, too - the woman who stocked the spread was VERY on top of things. Great staff there - additionally, the front desk staff were quick and efficient. While I didn't use it, I did notice that they also have an indoor pool. Only a couple small downsides: they do allow pets (good for a lot of people), but that can lead to some barking while the pet-parents are out and about. Also, housekeeping could step it up just a touch. I rely on that in-room coffee to get me started before my shower, but the "regular" (ie, not decaf) pouch was only replaced once in the four days I was there. On the last day, no new shampoo/conditioner was left, which was a bummer since I have long hair and really need the conditioner. I am 100% sure that the front desk would have sent more had I called, but I was in a hurry (in the mornings, aren't we all?). I made my way over to CC's Cafe for three of the four nights I stayed, and was impressed overall with the service and the food. It's right across the street - check it out if you're staying. If I returned to Glendive, I would definitely stay here again. Very pleasant stay overall.

    Nice and comfy here!

Very closely following all safety guidelines during COVID and has nice proximity to surrounding restaurants which was nice as the breakfast area was closed during the time we stayed here.

This hotel met our basic needs. It had a basic but sufficient breakfast and was clean enough. The…read moreroom had shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Almost all of the staff was super friendly. The pool was closed for renovations though my family has also stayed here and said it was closed when they came too (thankfully not a big deal for us). There are no drinking fountains per one of the workers, so something to be aware of. Overall, this served as a nice place for us to just come back and sleep.

The hide-a-bed mattress had huge stains all over it, it was worn out and sagging, you could feel every spring and wire through it. When I went down to the desk to ask about bedding for the hide-a-bed, and told the lady there were stains, she acted shocked, but did nothing else but hand me a bag of bedding for the the hid-a-bed. My daughter ended up sleeping on an air mattress that we bought. The bed skirt on my bed had stains on it, there were cereal o's under the hide-a-bed. I have called Holiday Inn and been told they would call me back, 1 week later had to call them because they never called. Was told they were suppose to have called me back within 48 hours. Was then told the manager of the Hotel was suppose to call me, still waiting for that phone call 24 hours and counting.

Oak Tree Inn - View of the kitchen and desk area from the bed. I took the photo as we were checking out, so it's a bit messy.

Tldr: Go here if you value good breakfast and good WiFi over cushy comfort…read more This is a nice enough hotel, but it's definitely meant for the single traveler. My husband and I came here, thinking it was a local hotel and not a chain, but it is a chain(albeit a dispersed one), specifically meant for railroad/construction employees (This website explains that: https://lodgingenterprises.com). The hotel rooms had a full kitchenette: full-size refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and a two-burner little induction stove top. There was a pot and a pan, a single bowl, a single plate, a single set of silverware (fork, knife, spoon), and a single coffee cup. The bed was set up for one person (two pillow, stacked on top of each other in the middle of the bed, and there were only two bath towels ( the THINNEST towels I've ever experienced in a hotel, but adequate). That being said, it was nice enough. The breakfast was made-to-order (You get vouchers for two eggs, any style, hash browns, choice of sausage, bacon or ham, and choice of toast or pancake, plus coffee or tea). It's definitely better than your average hotel breakfast. And the WiFi was free, and reliable--we watched the latest Game Of Thrones on our laptop, and it didn't buffer at all. The blackout curtains were the best blackout curtains I've ever had in a hotel room, too. The bathtub was deeper than average, which made for a nice soak after a week of camping. The mattress was firm but not uncomfortable (and I have a back injury, so I'm particularly sensitive to that). They do have a AAA rate, but be sure to ask for it at the beginning, or they'll have to redo your reservation completely :) All in all, this hotel was serviceable, but not the local gem we were expecting after reading the existing Yelp reviews.

Little different that you check in at the diner next store. Breakfast is also in the diner. You get coupons that you pick three breakfast items from. Very cool and better than the usual waffle machine and fruit loops like other chain hotels. Just be prepared that drinks are not free and you must tip. The diner is very cute 50s style. The hotel was modern with high end fixtures and furniture. Just strange arrangement- things like light switch placement and super high hand towel holder. Like they bought all the best stuff, but then just hired someone to put it in- not a designer. But no points off here. Very pleasant night sleep.
