**June 2022: Weekend Visit**…read more The Hotel Indigo is a spectacular hotel. The room itself is extremely stylish and modern and I had a comfortable stay. Pros *The bed was the perfect firmness, and the blanket was a down one - so super comfortable! *I loved the shower! The water pressure is robust and the hot water is pippin hot. Additionally they have two shower heads - a traditional side one that detaches and you can direct the water, and a waterfall head, which was heavenly! They also provide both shampoo, conditioner, and bodywash, and there's a speaker in the bathroom so if you're listening to the tv you can hear everything loud and clear. *Breakfast was devine. Guest's need to make reservations in advance and it's booked in 30 minute increments. During my stay the 8:30 time slot was full, but I was able to get a 8am one. There's a cold bar with meats, cheese, bread, fruit, and a yogurt/granola station. For beverages they had juice and smoothies! I was already impressed with the buffet and didn't know that guests could also order hot items a la cart. I decided on eggs benedict and it was just what I need to fuel me up for the day! *Pretty good range of channels for the tv, but and I'm not sure if this is region specific not I didn't see a travel channel, but they did have the food channel! Cons *You need to bring your key everywhere because there are sections of the building and elevator where you need to scan it to access other areas. This was very foreign to me so I looked really dumb not understanding what so many sections of the building looked locked. Additionally, I got lost several times. It's not a traditional long hallway, but instead many different sections - so if you're directionally challenged this might be difficult *At least in my room there were a couple of lights that couldn't turn on or I couldn't figure out how to turn it on, and there's no light to shine on the whole room, only small lights for certain sections, but not the main sleeping area. Summary Overall, I really enjoyed my stay but a couple of things were annoyances so unfortunately, I couldn't give it a perfect score. Nevertheless, I had the most glorious showers here.

I had requested a sea view room when I made the booking and this is exactly what I was given, with stunning views of the coastline. The rooms are immaculate with a king size bed and luxurious bedding. The only reason I have not rated this hotel a '5' is because of the service at breakfast. We had been seated a good 10 minutes before they served us our tea and coffee. The breakfast was self service but the food was not replenished quick enough and there was always empty serving dishes, resulting in a constant queue of people waiting for the next batch to come out. Apart from the issue at breakfast, our stay was excellent and I cannot fault anything. This is a brilliant value for money hotel.

When my parents visit they always try out a new hotel and in comparison to some it doesn't quite live up to its 4 star rating. I was rather disappointed in advance as I had emailed them asking if I could upgrade my parents room and if we needed to book afternoon tea - no response! So on arrival they were allocated a room on the 10th floor with a 'river view' but don't be fooled by this. The Vermont hotel is very much in the city centre and not on the quayside so you get a distant view of the bridges at best. As for the room it was lovely and clean but the bathroom was very small and definitely not up to standard. There was a yellow crust around the sink where it had not been looked after and poorly covered up patches on the walls (not 4* standard at all). The staff in all fairness did offer to show them to another room but apparently this was no better. The WiFi also didn't work the first day and when it did return the connection wasn't great. We had afternoon tea in the lounge after my personal recommendation and I definitely stand by the fact this is my favourite place for a little indulgence. The lounges in comparison to the rooms are luxurious, welcoming and relaxed. The gentleman's afternoon tea is excellent value for money! You get a whole burger and chips alongside a mini scotch egg and pork pie, cheeses, piccalilli and a selection of desserts. Oh and not forgetting the unlimited tea and half pint - highly recommended! We went out for a meal and drinks in the evening and on our return someone had been into the room and removed one of the chairs so they were only left with one chair between the two of them - no communication to explain the purpose of this and overall very disappointing. Highly recommend the Vermont for a visit to the lounge for food and/or drinks but the hotel rooms don't offer the best value for money unfortunately!

Whenever I stay in hotels I try to use them as a base and I get myself out and about instead of spending too much time cooked up in the hotel but when I visit this holiday inn I always stay in as it is always pleasurable. The meals in particular are to a very high standard and not what I would normally expect from a 4* hotel chain. The overall experience is always positively good and that's why I always go back. The second time was with the other half and as it as just the 2 of us it was a good time. However the third time is where it starts to go wrong. Having checked in we found our room to be a smoking room and were relocated where we deposited our luggage and then went out for the evening. When we returned we were unable to access our room. More worringly was the fact we could hear someone in the room. The door opened and smoke billowed out from a non-smoking room. After some intense discussion a hotel rep informed us that our luggage was at reception. A quick check of the room and we found that not all was taken out. Apologies were offered and we were dispatched to an upgraded room and free drinks were provided. The fourth time was pleasant enough however it was clear that the pool needed a much need upgrade. I would probably stay again as the good times outweighed the one bad experience.

The hotel was quite busy, a nice view of the river Tyne & the bridges, which overlook the river. The bar area was nice & clean, the staff were clean & friendly, good service, the beer was good & at the average hotel prices, the food menu was good & the food was of a very quality and not overpriced. There is a very good chance that I may stay at the hotel for a future Great North Run!

We wrote to complain and ask for a refund of our money and after 3 letters no refund was made, even though they advertised a money back if not satisfied offer at the time. As we left day two at 1015am we were told "it will be serviced today" Returned after midnight - it hadn't been. - Was told "I'd love to sell you a glass of Merlot, but I can't because we don't have a corkscrew" - verbatim in the Gin Bar Monday July 3! - I paid in full on check in or so I thought. At check out I was hit with "did you extend your stay?" (I hadn't) "you were undercharged by the Manager at check-in" and "that Manager is not supposed to check anyone in"! There is also a menu option with eggs benedict, eggs royale etc that you can't get at the buffet. All options are delicious and they even give you a little paper bag that you can put some fruit, muffins and pastries in to take away for your lunch! The spa facilities are quite good, the gym is slightly on the small side but still useable. Lovely swimming pool, jacuzzi and steam room with friendly staff. I had one dinner here in their Hawthorne restaurant, and it was one of the best meals I think I've had in a hotel! To start with I had rabbit popcorn which was well seasoned, moist and extremely tasty and for my first try of rabbit, I was impressed! For mains I had a venison burger with chips. The venison burger was literally one of the best I have ever had! I asked for it to be cooked medium and it was cooked too perfection! Not too red but juicy and crumbly - utterly delicious! My mains was a rich chocolate brownie, which again was pretty amazing although I do have to admit that at this point I was pretty full and didn't manage to finish it all! Overall, the Crowne Plaza in Newcastle is a lovely hotel, comfy beds, good service (I broke my nail one night and the concierge found me a nail file right away), tasty breakfast, decent food, excellent facilities - definitely try and stay if you're in the area!
