Stayed here for a week and it was awesome. My flight had landed extremely early in the morning, and thankfully, because I was an IHG member, I was able to check in early. I was put on the fifth floor, and it was very spacious. I was a bit nervous because numerous friends had told me that the hotel rooms are small, but it was more than enough space for two people and their large suitcases. The bed was comfortable, and the pillows were not overly soft, so they gave my neck good support. The room was very clean, and since I was there during the heat wave, the aircon was much appreciated. There was an incident during our stay where the Aircon did stop working due to a motherboard issue, but the front desk was so helpful and allowed us to switch rooms (even kept us on the same floor) so that we could have working aircon. This is an A+ in my books, especially with the weather at the time. The staff were friendly, and we never had an issue with cleaning, the front desk or the suggestions they offered. The hotel even made a little watch-viewing party during the Arsenal championship game, which made the atmosphere even more fun. The hotel is in an accessible neighbourhood just off Russell Square or just a few minutes' walk to Kings Cross. There is even a Tesco Express or Boots across the street. The rooms are indeed small: I didn't think it would be possible for the pullout couch to even open; it did, though it left little space to move around or open luggage. But everything worked and was well maintained. Service was friendly. I stayed using IHG points, but a quick look at cash prices shows this is a pretty decent value for London considering the excellent location and generally costly hotels. customer service at the front desk is absolutely horrible. I had to deal with Ivy explaining to her that I've come on a 12 hour flight and I'd like to be notified if I can get in the room earlier. With the most disgusting attitude, she yells back "at 3 o'clock, our check in is at 3 o'clock". I said I understand you are busy but I asked earlier to give me a time frame and you didn't. I wanted to know if I can grab food or walk around in that time frame. But instead she barks at you. The irony of it all is that they are booked and their cleaning staff is working on the rooms YET guest after guest were getting checked-in BEFORE 3 pm. Worst welcome and customer service. I expected a better hotel after paying a lot more then my previous hotel (president). I am in a double room and it's to small. There isn't enough room to open 2 suitcases, you can't go around the bed comfortably. You can hear everything thing from the corridor, from the next room and from the street. Good if you want to know when the next room gets a phone call in the middle of night! The bathroom wasn't at the best shape, the bath math was dirty, you can't really use the lavatory for any thing big since the water don't go down and there isn't any ventilation. Someone thought it's a good idea to put the tea tray underneath the TV, really not comfortable! The lightning is awful and you sit in the dark, never mind trying to put on make up. Last thing - To get the "Free" WiFi for the hotel guests you need to register to the IHG Rewards club and the WiFi didn't work more then it did. The hotel is an easy 1 block walk from the underground at Russell Square. Which makes for an easy commute from LHR. Especially after catching the red eye from RDU and landing at 06:00. The front desk staff were fantastic. They actually allowed me to check in to my room when I just asked if they could hold on to my bag until the afternoon. The room is standard Eurpoean stuff, double bed, super small bathroom. But everything worked, was neat, and very clean. Decided to eat breakfast on site. It was OK. Kinda of like many hotels with hot and cold buffet. But it was all well cooked and replenished often. All in all not a bad place to call home for a few days while in London for business. read more

Hotels in Central London tend to be one or more of (a) Small roomed; (b) Pricey; (c) Shabby. Not that I stay often - only if I'm at an event which finishes after Last Trains. This establishment is a fairly generic Holiday Inn with reasonable sized rooms which - in my case at least - had been updated to modern standards (flat panel TV, in-room safe, iron+ironing board in closet, etc.). Staying at an establishment where "everything works" was a pleasant contrast directly after returning from time in Korea ... where every hotel I used had problems (apologies for not reviewing them here on Yelp to warn others, but currently there are no Korean pages!). Location is convenient: Brunswick Centre with some shopping including a Waitrose if you want to buy provisions like sodas and fruits is adjacent, and offers some eating options, and transport links (bus and tube - Russell Square) are closeby. My only quibble was genuinely a surreal act by housekeeping ... I complained that the steam function on the iron wasn't working when trying to evict case-creases from a shirt, so they replaced it with ... an iron WITHOUT steam function! Not a major issue, but even by endemically weak standards of housekeeping departments worldwide, I thought that non-sequitur was rather special ;-( read more

If I never stay in a Holiday Inn again, it will be too soon. What does the chain really offer that Premier Inns or Travelodges don't? Other than location of course, and that's where they get you. I stayed in this hotel because I wanted a break in london and had some points that gave me a free night, it was about the only hotel with availability. So some things other reviewers didnt mention: There's an Irish pub on the ground floor that has a reasonable atmosphere and had a large projector screen for showing sport. It's right next door to a shopping centre with food outlets, a couple of coffee places. Very handy. The area is pretty good, no really safety concerns. The hotel is not modern, so suffers from room size issues and the usual lack of modern bathrooms. Broken floor tiles and inadequate lighting contributed to bathroom issues. There was enough room in our family room to pull out a large sofa bed and also put up a cot (which the hotel provided, we called to book it in advance). Flat screen TVs They charge £5 for 1 hour of wifi. Any hotel that charges me for wifi will never get more than 4*s from me. £28 buys you 24 hours including in room movies. No in-room safe. Breakfast was good. £9 if you book it in advance, and the English Breakfast buffet was fresh and well stocked. No horribly chewy bacon or rock hard sausages here. read more

I stayed over night whilst a sporting event paying with airmiles for a twin bedded room. The check in process was smooth and staff were efficient and pleasant. The hotel is clean, but looks like its been largely unrevised since the early 90s, everything is beige. The room was large, with usual feature for a hotel of this category, bedding was fresh and new, all the fittings in good repair and the information provided through the tv system was readily understandable. The bathroom was clean but could use updating, the shower was adequate but the fixed head shower not particularly great. I'd pre paid for the continental breakfast option and to be honest wasn't impressed. Three fruit juices on offer, all of pretty low quality, yoghurts, toast making facilities, low grade croissants, bread rolls and a selection of two cold meats and a couple of sliced cheeses. Nothing individual or giving a sense of place. I know it's a chain hotel but really this was just disappointing. So to sum up they didn't do anything wrong but just didn't do anything to make me want to go back. read more

First time visit London. The hotel staff are very helpful and the location is right by the tube station and a tesco store. The hotel room itself is small compared to average US hotel. The furnishing is a little dated as well. However, all these shortcomings can be compensated by the amazing breakfast buffet, which offers all the classic English morning dishes, at a very reasonable price. It's unfortunate that visitors to London have little choice but to stay in hotels run by the over-priced chains like Holiday Inn. In terms of value for money, B&Bs (which Britain is famous for) provide so much more. However, the quality B&Bs that are so common in other parts of country just don't exist in London - so the chains have a monopoly and can get away with charging three or four times and often more than the cost of a decent B&B... That said, the Holiday Inn in Bloomsbury is in a very convenient location, just around the corner from Russell Square and close to Euston, the British Museum, Covent Garden etc. The rooms, if a little characterless, are clean, the beds and pillows are comfortable and the hotel is quiet. My main gripe is that the bathrooms are tiny! They boast a bath, but you'll have trouble sitting in it and actually getting wet! Best to treat it as a large shower tray! Breakfast is a do-it-yourself affair with cereals, juice, fresh fruit, the 'Full English', toast and pastries all on offer - but the quality is nothing great and, again, the hotel could learn a trick or two from the average B&B when it comes to breakfast. If you need a hotel in London, this is a good choice - as long as you can get over the fact that you are having to pay London prices. read more

I'm really surprised by some of the reviews on here. I arrived from Euston Station after a five- minutes walk to find a really welcoming and smart lobby with really welcoming and smart staff! The room is good and has everything I need (including an iron/ ironing board) and the basic wifi is free! Okay, my trip is short but the whole place appears modern, warm and welcoming! Okay, a bit prices - but look where it is... After a long Sunday train journey it was nice to go for a wander: out of the door, turn right and there's a smart open air shopping mall for all your needs! read more

Our stay was from 8/13-16/16, we arrived early evening checking in was nice & easy, once checked in I headed to my room to settled in. During our stay we had drinks a few times at the bar in the lobby, also some coffee from Starbucks convenient if you like coffee. One night we had Dinner at the bar since everything around was closed, Appetizer we tried the Pita bread , good hummus & guacamole the other dip was eggplant this one was kinda odd but not bad, different. On the Food Good Fish & Chips , comes with fries good tasting fried fish. The Burger was also good. If u are looking for a lighter option one of our friends had the Vegetable pie & salad, good veggie pie I was surprised. I had the Grilled Chicken sandwich & fries, good sandwich & fries. Breakfast we only had it once, buffet style u can choose to add this option by the time we reached it they were almost wrapping it up breakfast is only till 10 am pretty early if you ask me. Few options left I had some croissants with mortadella these were good plus some pre cooked eggs not too bad & a veggie sausage that was pretty tasty. Friends had some fruits, veggies plus made some sandwiches breakfast was ok am sure it's better if you arrive earlier. The Hotel itself is not very convenient to where all the action is assuming this is of some interest to you, we came to find out where most restaurants, bars etc were located was about a 30 minute walk or so depending which place u choose the hotel area is quite more residential. One good thing is the Train (tube) is near by right around the corner this was convenient for us. As for the hotel itself, nice lobby area, bar/food place nicely kept. My room of course was small but it was ok nothing too get all crazy about bed was nice & comfortable, great toiletries & good wifi connection. Overall the hotel served it's purpose. read more

It's holiday inn. Yet this place has one of the most helpful staff I've met in a long time. Checking in was a breeze, and explained everything well. I come up to the room and I ended up with a room with some unknown stain with food chunks still left in it PLUS drinking cups were all dirty but put back like it was clean. I talked the manager & gave me free premium internet for my entire week stay. Also they cleaned & replaced the cups ASAP. Breakfast downstairs restaurant space is very good with nothing flashy or fancy. Very comfortable food if food can be called that. Now, remember that premium internet I got? Well, as a tech consultant, I send & receive many different sort of mails & files. Even with the paid tier internet, it took FOREVER. I'm not sure what's going on but internet is barely good enough to read emails. If you want to read the news & watch some news clips, I hope you're ready to wait for it to load.! Overall this place is great! Would I stay here again, absolutely! Even my bad luck & slow internet? You bet. I'm an IHG platinum member and booked this trip for free for 4 nights (well free using my points and a little bit of money).I may consider thus hotel again with points but probably not. Pros- 1. Location is good like many here mention. You are maybe a 3-minute walk from the Russell Square station. You are also right across from Brunswick which has a great supermarket called Waitrose. This came in handy for me to get some cheap things to keep around for meals and snacks. They also have inexpensive places there to eat for under 10 pounds. 2. It was a solo trip for me, so the room size was fine (actually quite comfortable). I was in an IHG member room and it included a mini-bar. While I never consumed the drinks in it, it was useful to store some sandwiches, fruit, and a little milk. 3. The water pressure in the shower is great! Cons- 1. The customer service here was really bad across the board from people working at the front desk, to housekeeping. When I went in to check in, one of the workers said for me to sit down while the room is getting cleaned up. Right after she told me that, it looked like she left for the day. I waited for a while and could see she didn't let anyone else at the front desk know. I ended up waiting back in line and had to start all over again with a new worker. Likewise housekeeping needs work. At around 3:30 I came back to my room after a day of sightseeing and just wanted to relax in my room for a little bit. They still hadn't cleaned my room. To make matters worse, I figured I would just get towels from a housekeeper I saw outside my room. I asked her for towels, she said she would be back for a minute, and never came back (I was out there for maybe 5 minutes). I'm used to hotel rooms being cleaned no later than 1. Usually in the states they get done between 11-1. 2. The place is right above a really popular pub and I could hear the patrons from my room. 3. No alarm clock in the room. WTF? In fairness maybe it's just an American thing to have alarm clocks in hotel rooms. I think the staff here needs work. I did encounter 2 really great workers. One was an English man and the other was an English woman with brown hair who always wore a bun. Even though my experience here was mixed I would consider it again. For the mist part though I would rather be in a hotel in marylebone than Russell square read more

I have stayed here several times. I like that it is in a University Area and lots of options for a quick informal bite. Also have reasonable passes to Fitness First across the street which is nice as guest passes for gyms in Europe always seem very expensive. Free Wifi but useless; expensive upgrade. read more
