Dear readers, for my fellow tourists visiting London, I found a fantastic hotel for you....the Hoxton is uber cool, and located in the hip are of shoreditch. You walk in and you feel you are in a time capsule from the 60's...it is so retro and chic...the staff is so friendly and helpful, and if they did not know something they were sure to find out for you. The room is small but comfortable, we had the double....the shoebox looks super cute if you are traveling alone. Unfortunately the only draw back is there is no fitness center, but for me, who loves walking, I felt I got a good cardio workout anyway. They do share with another hotel, but you have to pay to get in, so no bueno in my opinion, should be complimentary. There are so many cool things to see within walking distance, and the tube is a 5 min walk. The breakfast is really yummy, and in the evening it turns into a super fun bar scene.

As an American vacationing in London for the 1st time I was hesitant on what a "deal" the Hoxton appeared to be. It turned out to be not only a great deal but a great hotel overall. If I were to sum the hotel up in one word it would be "trendy". The decor is modern and everything is new - from the flat panel TV to the extra large shower head with a personal sprayer. If you are looking for the stereotypical English hotel this is not the place to be. But if you want a great hotel with an "in crowd" feel this is it. The whole area is trendy with great night life. The hotel has a fantastic restaurant and bar. Every night the bar filled up with young professionals there for a drink - yet it was quiet and subdued. The fantastic value of this hotel extended beyond the daily room rate. It came with free internet, and phone rates of 5 cents a minute to the US and 3 cents local. It also came with a healthy breakfast of yogurt, granola, banana and juice. The staff is made up of young folks that were friendly and helpful. This hotel is one of best kept secrets of the Londoners. Most of the guests and bar patrons were British. The one down side of this is they do not exchange foreign currency at the hotel. The do however have an ATM machine and if you need to change currency the Post Office is just minutes walk away next to the Old street tube station. This hotel is not located in central London where all the sights are. However, with London's subways and taxis, this was not an issue; the hotel is located in London eastside. The money I saved was well worth the extra minutes that I had to travel. Most London hotels were around 200-300 GBP; I paid an average of 90GBP per night. The only downside to this hotel is the neighborhood. While it is not a run down dangerous neighborhood, it does look a bit like a neighborhood in transition. In a couple of years I think this will be a very nice fashionable neighborhood. Even now, a few blocks from the hotel are lots of nice restaurants and shops. Overall this is a great hotel for folks on vacation. While I would not recommend kids younger than teens (only because I did not see any there and it does have that trendy club feel to it) it is great for everyone else. In my group we ranged from late 50s to late teens and we all had a great time at the Hoxton.

Nice crowed place on the Friday night. We had diner there. Quickly served and large choice on the menu. I have the vegan burger. Really good. The deco is incredible. Have to go there, even just for a coffee during the day.

Everything about this place was utterly fantastic. Thoughtful and unexpected touches every step of the way. Arrive early? No problem, your room is ready. Need to make a call home - to the U.S.? Sure thing, an hour free each day. That's right. Each day. Need food before a day of Big Red Buses and Clocks? Enjoy free Pret a Manger breakfast of juice, yogurt parfait and a banana each and every day. At whatever time you'd like. Seriously. This place has style, comfort and surprisingly the right price. London was the last stop of a two week European jaunt and let me tell you...the room and amenities were just what I needed. A few friends of mine in London recommended the hotel as a hip spot in a fun part of the city. There are lots of restaurant and pub choices within easy walking distance. The hotel restaurant was great, actually, however the last day of our stay (mid June '09) new management began renovations on the dining and bar area so who knows what the restaurant will be now. Every night we enjoyed a DJ spinning funky house, downtempo and old school hip hop that set the mood for the swank lobby/bar/restaurant. Enjoy the space. And the electric neon orange wire-frame Lambo. Old Street station is a short walk from the hotel and is a good line to be on for touristing and connections to larger train stations. Convenience store with toiletries, basic food and beer/wine is just across the street. Make sure you check out all of the signage in your room. It's the little things that show how much thought goes into an operation...beyond simply being a business. There are loads of fantastic food and pub choices just steps away. Enjoy exploring. If you're into a non-stuffy yet totally covered hotel, check in to the Hoxton.

    Thanks breakfast pixies!

This place is super swish and a total pleasure to stay in. Location is perfect - Hoxton / Shoreditch, you can't beat it. The rooms are amazing - all individually decorated with unusual bed coverings, original paintings and cool prints. The beds are extremely comfortable and the bathrooms are really high quality. The hotel is just ridiculously funky. Really cool bar, a photo booth, a couple of little restaurants, great wifi (finally a hotel with good enough wifi to keep up with it's guests!!). Staffwise, they are all exceptionally friendly and professional, if extreeeemely hipster :-) I would rather stay here than anywhere else in London I've tried so far.

I think I found out about this gem from National Geographic Traveler and learned it had won some kind of award for best value. It was absolutely awesome. It's a little boutique hotel set a little away from central London, but it's still in Zone 1 on the Tube very close to the Old Street stop and about a mile from Liverpool stop. The neighborhood is Shoreditch, an up and coming area, with lots of cool boutiques, bars, restaurants, and easy access to more cool shops, thrift stores, and markets in the East End. Funky, hip foyer. All the employees are in ironic plaid shirts. Free local newspaper. The bar and restaurant were always hopping at night. Upstairs, the rooms were a tad on the small side compared to places in the US, but nice dark wood, a chaise, flat panel tv, coffeemaker w/coffee, plenty of outlets, small closet with a safety box that could fit my laptop, and a contemporary bathroom. The bed was comfortable. We really only used the room to sleep and occasional pop-ins for afternoon breaks before heading back out in the evening, but it was great. Breakfast was hung on your door - small, but filling serving of plain yogurt, granola, and berry preserves with OJ. Free milk and water in the mini-fridge in the closet. I did not get in on the 1 pound sale, but it was still a great deal at 77 pounds/night for a 5-night stay in April around Easter. I would highly recommend it to anyone traveling to London. They also offer meeting rooms and "day office" options for business people.

After spending a summer traipsing around Europe, staying in hostels and budget hotels, the Hoxton was the ideal way to finish off my trip. I've had my share of disastrous hotels in shady areas and I am relieved to say that this is not one of them. The beds were luxuriously comfortable; I felt like i was sleeping on a cloud. Down comforters and down pillows cradled my exhausted body. The bathroom was GINORMOUS and stepping into the shower i felt all my tension and exhaustion get washed away by the gentle raindrops falling from that magnificent shower head. The fridge was always stocked with water and milk, most convenient--even though i don't drink milk it's comforting to know that it's there. And they had all the amenities i wish i had but wouldn't fit into my luggage while backpacking: a hairdryer, Internet, AND a flat-screen television! Their breakfast system is ingenious! You don't have to be obsessed with waking up early enough to get to the dining room to find a table. You don't even have to go anywhere. The hotel staff leaves a paper bag in your room and you circle the appropriate information, how many and what time you want your breakfast. It's a little on the lighter side, yogurt, fruit, and juice, but it does the trick. This place is ultra modern and the attention to detail is mind-blowing! They've thought about everything a guest might want and need.

Their £1/night sales do sound too good to be true, but it's definitely legit--my friend and I snagged two of these £1 nights in an earlier sale. They just had another one for 500 rooms on Oct 1. Sign up for their email list so you can get in on the next one! Neighborhood/Getting There We found the location a little inconvenient for navigating the city, but the neighborhood and surrounding areas are worth a look. Definitely non-touristy, it has a 'broke but fabulous' vibe, like the neighborhood where you lived when you couldn't afford not to have a roommate. Spitalfields covered market is a 10 minute walk and we thoroughly enjoyed grazing the food stands, browsing through the stalls and people watching. Found some cute shops, sunny brunch spots and a pub with an outside plaque to honor its beloved mascot, Gizmo. Brick Lane is a bit further down and features some of London's tastiest and trendiest ethnic eats. This area also hosts a number of sample sales -- Orla Kiely regularly holds hers at the Old Truman Brewery. (Sorry ladies, you can't dump the boys off while you shop...it's closed.) Hotel and Staff Living up to its billing as an 'urban lodge', flaming double fires and colorful art work on exposed brick announce that you're headed for a different kind of chill. The deer head décor is creepy in a David Lynch kind of way, but it works. Don't expect the mostly European staff to flash the attitude found in other boutique hotels. They're extremely gracious and resourceful -- most come from top London hotels and enjoy making recommendations for restaurants, clubs and activities. I arrived around 10:00 am, was generously offered a conference room until check-in and used the free wireless (available throughout the hotel) to full advantage. Rooms are smallish, but feel luxe with Frette linens, down duvets/pillows, windows that open (yes!!!) and a flat screen TV. Request the complimentary breakfast and you'll wake up to a yummy bag of homemade yogurt w/granola and fresh squeezed orange juice hung on your door. Enjoy with tea from your kettle and real milk or bottled water (both free). We also enjoyed the Grille -- it actually turned around an awful dining experience at the much-ballyhooed and Michelin-starred Hakkasan restaurant (see the gory details in my other post). Here's a preview -- we blew our hotel savings on dinner, only to be scolded by a waiter and literally pushed into the cold London night when our 90 minutes was up. After trudging back to the Hoxton, we were starving and in need of comfort food and kindness. Our lovely Irish server tut tutted over our tale of woe and after a couple of vinos and bread pudding, all was again well with the world.

Very nice room and the decoration/design of it is perfect for the small size and well you know.. you don't need more than that! The atmosphere of this hotel is awesome. The room service is ok it could be a little faster since I just order a cake but it's alright.. The shower there is GREAT! oh my god you do not want to leave it haha Internet is great and if you need any help or if you need to print something you can always go to the front desk and they will be more than happy to help you :) I had a very pleasant night there and I would come back for more for sure!

Whenever I am out and about in Shoreditch, I will always use the Hoxton Hotel as a place for meetings. The bar area (The Hoxton Grille) is perfect for this and there is always a vibrant atmosphere. The actual hotel is very reasonable for somewhere so nice and the location is perfect. The waiting staff are wonderful and the cocktail menu is superb with a wide range of gorgeous drinks at great prices. The place is usually full of busy media types but the log fire, artwork and comfy sofas enable you to feel relaxed and at home.

We arrived, and immediately our drink orders were taken...although it did take quite awhile to get the drinks. However, my £9 Bloody Mary was pretty tasty...spicy and strong. As there were only 2 options for food...ordering decisions were made pretty quickly. One thing I found a bit odd though, was if you decide when you order your meal that you want dessert too...it's a £1 cheaper. I'm not really a fan of having to decide if I want dessert before I've even touched my meal. When the food came out, it was very pretty...however it seemed like a pretty small portion for £16. Luckily, I'm a meat eater, so I got a nice hunk of very tender lamb, but my friend who is a veggie, had to make do with a couple mushrooms(although she said they were very good). I also had one, lone brussel sprout on my plate...although that was better than a friend who had 1/2 a brussel sprout. It almost seemed like the food was there to look pretty, rather than to eat....either that or a tasting menu. Regardless, all of the food was really nice...delicious flavors...and to be fair, I wasn't hungry when I finished. A few people in my party got dessert. What looked like a slop of chocolate mess, with green ice cream...ended up being really nice. A chocolate mousse of sorts, with green tea ice cream and bits of pineapple. It looked a bit odd...but tasted good. All-in-all, I would recommend The Laundry. The staff was friendly, the atmosphere was good, and the food tasty. Just be prepared to spend a bit more than you might want...and if you are a vegetarian, maybe eat a snack before you go. Or if you are super picky about food, call beforehand to see what's on the menu, since there are only 2 options. I certainly won't eat here on a regular basis, but a great place for a special occasion.

DJ was okay altho musics were a bit of a snore 90's leftovers - and even then, some of the most generic 90's musics around. I expected more from London. The droves of kids on drugs were just fine with the playlists. They need 2-3 more bars for the venue size. They couldn't really well serve the 1000+ patrons. They also need for bathrooms to support an event of this size. All in all I was happy to be out of London City Centre for New Years - and hey it could have been worse! My main letdown was the music. Free foto booth was a +. At some point people had vomited in the ball pit and they didn't shut it down :/ Seems someone popped the bounce house halfway thru the night. I realize the venue and the promoter using the space for the new years party are separate - this is my experience for NYE only.

It's not about the amount, of course I can pay 3 extra pounds, it's just inappropriate to raise the price just because you felt like it. I also don't appreciate separating groups that are in the queue together, or for that matter, leaving people in the cold just to make the place look crowded, cooler, funner. We were in a group of four, they let two friends in and left me and my other friend behind for 45 minutes. We're texting back and forward the two people that were inside and they said the exact words: "I don't know why you are still waiting. They could fit 30 people and a jacuzzi down here". So yeah, thanks for that. So far you would say it was a terrible experience right? Well yes, but the music saved it all.
