It's a nice room for a holiday inn. We had 4 people. The hotel is clean. Well located with a lot of restaurants around. Also, there is a lively scene in the evening by the lobby. People drink and eat. It's a good vibe. They didn't replenish our water and we asked for it and they took forever to do that but other than that, everything went smooth. It's a spacious family room. Staff was very nice and accommodating. Room was ok in size, nothing extravagant. Room was on the warm side (I know...Europe). The bar staff was very nice and took great care of us for dinner and drinks. The only thing that I felt pretty uncomfortable with is the fact that this hotel is accessible from pretty much anyone. There were so many unsavory people mingling around outside. The hotel has no key scan to assess hotel floors so anyone can take an elevator to any floor. I would at least suggest that they make the floors only accessible if you have a key card for that floor. read more

Simple, but very accommodating. The rooms are tiny and are made for a quick sleep and shower. TV's are on the small side. Room was cozy and shower worked well with plenty of warm water. Very modern bar area and lounge. The crew was quick to get us situated and to our room. The breakfast in the morning was buffet style with plenty of choices for all. Tasty!!! Pretty nice hotel,,, massive boutiquey style lobby. Tons of couches and sit down chairs everywhere. Front desk is pretty nice, but located in a aisle way which can get pretty busy. Rooms are pretty good as well. Nice and sizable, theres also a big window if you're wanting to look outside or for some natural light. The sheets on the bed, pillows and a comforter just i case you get cold. Desk, a chair, dresser and a TV on top. Bathroom has a sink and faucet combo with the giant mirror. Shower, tub and towels everywhere. Soap and shampoo on a dispenser on the wall for the OCD types. Yes!! It's definitely a nice hotel. Located close to shops and restaurants. This is a large Holiday Inn (over 300 bedrooms) just across the Isar River from the Aldstadt. It's 10-15 minutes to Marienplatz on foot, just 5 minutes to the Deutsche technical museum. It is connected by an underground passage (with its own entrance) to Rosenheimer Platz S-Bahn station, which is two stops from Marienplatz station, and on a direct line (S8) from the airport. The passage has a large Hit supermarket and an Aldi; and other smaller shops. The hotel is owned by a German company and operated by a German Service company, under license from the Holiday Inn company. We chose it as it was the closest to the centre, with air-conditioning at a reasonable price (Munich accommodation is pricey). Our overall experience was mixed: the room was ok, but they're updating them and ours was one of the old style rooms. It was spacious enough, had good storage, decent beds, a bath, fridge (all items charged for), ironing board and hairdryer. It was clean and the cleaning staff were very friendly. The air-conditioning worked well. On the downside, we did experience room and corridor noise, but worse was from the renovations two floors up, with drilling and banging from 10am onwards until 6pm. The drilling was loud enough to prevent conversation. Luckily we weren't planning on hanging around during the day, but the reception staff response was simply that the work "had to be done sometime". There was no room safe (renovated rooms will have) which meant using the safes downstairs at reception. Staff were always obliging but it's a pfaff and required a €100 deposit for the key (lose the key and they charge €200). Reception staff were fine but in a professional rather than friendly way. I guess its size makes it impersonal. The shower was adequate but not terribly powerful. I like having baths too, so that was a bonus. Breakfasts get good reviews but the charge is €25 per person; we were offered it at €25 for two people per day if we booked breakfast every day. For our 6 night stay that would have meant €150, so we declined. The area around is quite buzzy at night: there are concert venues nearby and there is a handful of restaurants and bars within a few minutes' walk but there's a better choice across the River Isar. (There's a fantastically popular ice-cream bar a block away - queues until 11pm). Overall our stay was all right, but I'd find a different venue next time. PS: the swimming pool has been closed for several years for renovation but the reception staff said they didn't know if/when it would reopen. read more

My company has its home office in the Munich area - this is the hotel that my division usually uses whenever in town. The best part is that the hotel is a 5 minute walk (underground) from the Rosenheimer Platz train station - it's not extremely well marked for first-timers, but it's very convenient for getting around the city by train. The rooms are very nice. As an IHG member, I always seem to get better treatment in European hotels than in US, a far as rooms go. I usually end up in a high room with a nice view of the city. I also usually request an early check-in, as I usually get there about noon. I haven't had a problem. The bar is a great place to hang out. Food is OK, but I'd rather go out in town to eat. Breakfast is another story. The buffet at this location is one of the best anywhere. Great selection, fresh and tasty. The only complaint here is that they don't open until 07:00 - the train that gets me to the corporate offices on time leaves at 07:20, so I don't usually have time to eat. The buffet is all or nothing, so if you're in for a danish and coffee, it's a little pricy. But if you have time, you won't need lunch with what you can get for breakfast. Pre-pay with your reservation or when checking in and it's a bit more affordable. Location is with walking distance of Marienplatz - maybe 30 minutes if you don't want to take the train. Along the way is the Deutches Museum. I've been to Munich numerous times and have yet to visit the museum - I'm told its worth a day to see it - and it's about 10 minutes from the hotel on foot. Overall, it's a great place to stay when visiting the city. Get a rail pass and you can go anywhere easily. read more

Take a pass folks...not worth it. This hotel is located outside the city center (but a short metro ride). My room looks recently renovated and seems clean. It's fairly cramped though, fine for one person but two is a stretch. Be aware that they screw you on Internet. First of all, there is mo wifi anywhere but the lobby. Not in the rooms & not in the conference center. What is this - 1987? If you do want wifi, it's €10 for 90 minutes (which must be used on the same day of course!). If you have a laptop there is an in room landline for €27 per DAY. The hotel site is not at all clear regarding the complete lack of Wifi. Personally, I would never stay here again and I would recommend this place to others. When I travel, I need to be connected. Anyplace that bills itself as a business hotel should recognize this & get with the times! Also, staff is NOT friendly or helpful. They do, however, specialize in rummaging around at the front desk and ignoring guests while the queue steadily builds. If this sounds good to you, by all means book here. read more

We stayed at this Holiday Inn while on a weekend holiday to Munich. I don't think we could have asked for a better location or price. The room was comfy and clean! It was a bit loud outside, but that is something that is out of the hotels control. There are steps from the hotel that lead directly to the metro station, you don't even need to take a step outside to get there. From the Rosenheimer Platz, you are only two stops away from the Marianplatz, which is moments from the world famous Glockenspiel attraction. If you venture around the corner you will find several tasty looking restaurants. I would recommend making a reservation if you are planning to go on a weekend. We tried to get into Chopan, but it was booked and we finally squeezed into the Sushi restaurant Zen, but were only able to sit at the bar, as the restaurant was packed! We stayed on the weekend package and opted to pay for the breakfast in the morning. I would highly recommend doing this! There were many selections and I thought the price was pretty good for the selection you received. I have not seen many places in Europe that are this well rounded when it comes to food choices. The lounge area in this hotel is beautiful with comfortable seating. We sat and had a beer and wine, but there many drink options to choose from. The pours were generous and the service was superb. One tip that I would like to pass on is if you are using a VAT form for your stay, give the front desk a heads up when you check in. We caught a bit of grief when we used it upon check out. Our stay was a little over a hundred dollars a night, including breakfast! That doesn't include the $20 parking fee, but all in all, we will be returning here for all our future trips to Munich! read more

Where can I start. I've been staying in Holiday inns across America for the past year, and never have I been treated so poorly. The whole staff needs to be fired. The key cards always expire which drives you crazy having to go to the front desk that's completely unfriendly and ask them to fix the issue, they then give an attitude as if you're bothering them and it's your fault. The bartender nearly chased us up the street because he screwed up the tab and didn't charge us for the 3rd drink we ordered, as if I was going anywhere.. This is after closing the bar down the night before with a €180 tab.. Talk about penny picking.. They didn't have a certain drink on the shelves so for NYE we bought the bottle ( Gran DuQue De Alba) and were serving ourselves drinks thought the night, the waiter came up to us without and question and took our bottle and drinks.. I don't need to tell you how we felt or what happened after that. If the elevator is broken during checkout, good luck getting one of the concierge men to help you bring your bags to the vehicle, they expect you to hump every piece of luggage down the stairs alone, than give you an attitude if you ask for help. Very unfriendly to American, they still must be pissed about WW2... Just avoid this place.! 2 star hotel and that's being nice! read more

Front desk customer service is dreadful even for Europe. Strongly recommend that you be nice as pie to them and accept whatever they tell you as 100% no problem, as any complaint / request for something other than standard service, no matter how polite, no matter your circumstances, will result in 'special' treatment (and not in the positive direction). I've seen instances of service personnel punishing customers for misbehavior (in their eyes) before, and sometimes deservedly so. But in those instances the customer was abusive and/or totally moronic. I've read through the reviews here and customer service seems to be a pretty consistent complaint. The others that have complained about this I would 100% believe their stories as they are completely consistent with my experience. The rooms are decent by Europe standards, both in terms of cleanliness and amenities / fit and finish. Price was acceptable, except for internet which was expensive, but not totally out of line with European standards. Breakfast was better than most. NET: There are other hotels in the area in this price range. Until this hotel gets their front desk personnel a bit better in tune with appropriate customer service standards, I recommend finding something else. If you're really hard up for a place to stay, it'll pass as long as you steer clear of the front desk (I'd give the place between 3 and 4 stars if not for the front desk experience). read more

I stayed at the Holiday Inn for ~5 days. The location is ideal to be located in the city center of Munich with a short walk to the S-Bahn train. If you buy a 10-stripe ticket you can save money by just using it twice. 8 are needed to go to Munich Flughafen airport, validation is normally upstairs near ticket machines. The closest train station being Rosenheimer Platz which is located a short walk down in the basement. Trains are normally on average every 20 mins. They do have an ATM on the Holiday Inn premises left of the main doors The staff is friendly, they do speak english well. The room is basic, bed is comfortable, no in room safe. They do offer in room coffee and tea if you wish to make it, along with hair dryer in drawer, ironing board/ iron and TV with remote. There is also a mini bar in room in mini refrigerator that is chargeable. You have ample closet space to hang items and drawers. Be prepared to bring european plug adapters to charge your items. I recommend a power strip like VCT USP600 - Universal Power Strip 6 Outlets 100V to 220V/250V and 3500 Watts Built-in Universal Surge Protector with Window Shutters and Circuit Breaker for Worldwide Use. They do have blackout curtains, TV with remote in room and the windows do open! There is no power receptacle near the bed or the night stands, so if you use a Sleep Apnea machine with humidifier you will need a long cord to reach the other side of the room. If you get a high floor like 6 or higher, you will get very good WiFi reception which is very stable, your login and password is your last name and room number. The bathroom is stocked with shampoo, soap, lotion, etc The shower temperature does vary quite a bit during a shower, so expect hot water temperature to spike as other guests are using it. They do have an in wall 110-240V plug to charge shavers only The rooms are cleaned very early in the morning around 8.15am. You can always flip the do not disturb card if you don't want to be disturbed. There are a number of restaurants nearby within walking distance (some do not take credit cards, so have some Euro cash on hand). The food in the lounge and bar is also very good (I especially enjoyed the tomato soup and smoked tofu and vegetables). Expect to pay around 10 Euros for a meal here (they do take credit cards). The breakfast that is free is also very good, very large selection of hot items (usual fare), muesli, fruit abound, yogurt, pastries, juice, etc It can get very busy in the mornings around 7-8am so be ready it may be a crunch to get a seat. But overall very pleased with breakfast. They do have a Mercedes taxi stand out front They do have a swimming pool on the premises, but no fitness gym. You can use the Innings gym for 10 Euros per day, a short walk down to the basement, then up two floors. They have a mix of free weights, machines and cardio equipment. Stayed here for 5 days and overall I was pleased. The room was adequate and the styling was modern. I was glad to have some English speaking TV options. My room was on the side not facing the city, but I opened the window and the smell of baking bread and beer filled the room. The nearby restaurants were lacking but what was nice was the grocery store underneath the hotel, along with some breakfast options. I bought some sandwiches and put them in the fridge. I used the breakfast buffet one morning and I felt that it was good but pricey. The bar was adequate and had plenty of choices. Best point for me was how close the metro is located and the fact that it is a very quick walk to the Marienplatz, English Garden, Museums, Hofbräuhaus, and all the other cool attractions. I also enjoyed the jogging trail along the Isar river. I was able to keep up on my runs during the trip. The price seemed fair being that close to city center. Really impressed with the value proposition for this hotel. It's extremely convenient from airport S-Bahn train at Rosenheimer Platz station, close by many tourist sights, and directly above the station such that you never have to even walk outside (nice during winter). There is also a large grocery store called Hit right next to the underground entrance. The nightly rate was very reasonable and rooms clean. I plan to stay here again on future business trips to Munich. I noticed others mentioning the internet situation. My company has it included in the rate so I never had any issues with wifi or Ethernet connections, including with my VPN tunnel back to the US. read more

We recently stayed at this hotel for 3 nights during Oktoberfest. It wasn't our first time in Munich, so we didn't mind booking at a chain hotel or one that wasn't in central Munich. The Holiday Inn was easy to reach from the airport by train. When we arrived, we had to wait several hours for our room to be ready, which was disappointing, but not unexpected. Reception and check in was fine. Everything about this hotel is completely average (except as noted below). We had an executive room with a pretty good view; it was fairly spacious and the bathroom was also a good size. My only two issues with this hotel were the very spotty and unreliable wifi and the filthy carpets. I did not feel comfortable walking around in our room without shoes because the carpet was stained and grimy. We did not take advantage of the hotel bar or restaurant, although the common areas looked very nice. Overall, this hotel is a decent value and convenient, although I'm unlikely to book here again. read more

I have such mixed feelings about this place so I'll just list it out for you and have you decide for yourself. Pros: 1. SUPER convenient to the subway (in fact, you can enter the hotel directly FROM the subway station). You can take the S8 line directly from the airport here and enter the hotel without even walking outside (there will be signs for holiday inn). The really great thing is that there's a supermarket in here if you want to stock up on some basic drinks/snacks to offset all the $$ you'd normally be spending. Also, it's only 2 stops away from city central so, you know, there's that. 2. If you're a IHG member, you'll get FREE wifi. Otherwise, you'll need to pay and that sucks 3. I don't know if this is a pro or con but there were always tons of people in the lobby. To me, it indicates that it's a very popular hotel for tourists so I guess that's reassuring to know. Cons: 1. The service is....odd. Front desk is pretty friendly and helpful when it comes to asking for restaurant recommendations, directions, etc. HOWEVER, if you CALL from your room? Good luck getting someone to answer the phone. I called on 5 separate occasions and each time, the phone rang for more than 5 minutes (I called differently lines too--house keeping, front desk, operator, etc.). It doesn't matter what time you call, for some reason it takes them a LONG time to pick up the phone. And when they do, they sound really annoyed at you 2. The DO NOT DISTURB SIGN--make sure to put it out because otherwise you'll get a knock on your door at 7:45AM (holy hell that's pretty early??). Also, this is for the Americans but READ THE SIGN. Simply turning it over means nothing since both sides says "DO NOT DISTURB". No sign = clean my room. I was a dumb American and just assumed I could turn the sign around 3. Street noise is really quiet but the walls are pretty thin. You'll hear the most random things--whether it's upstairs opening the closet, someone scrapping something (?!), vacuum, etc. If you're a light sleeper, good luck. Easy to walk around the scenic neighborhood for shops, sights and restaurants. Decent hotel in a good area of town. Be aware that Rosenheinmerplatz is no Marienplatz, but then again, you may prefer it that way. We stayed here in München because my wife had a ton of HI points they were to expire soon. The fact that we didn't have to pay for the room might be why I don't have a problem with this place. One thing that caught us by surprise was that we still had to pay the taxes (about €25 per night) upon checking out. We stayed at a different HI during the same trip and didn't have today the tax there. Hmmmmm, sounds like someone might have pulled something over on the ignorant Americans..... The area is very nice. Its close to several different beer halls and many smaller restaurants. You can enter the S-Bahn station right from the hotel. There is also a lot of convenience stores underground. It is the closest large hotel, and at least when I was pricing it, much more reasonable than anything on the other side of the river. One caution drink add-on in bar is outrageous. Ordered gin and tonic with cucumber. Drink comes I ask for extra ice. Brings glass over and adds to drink. Drink was excellent but somehow added $1.50 for either extra ice or 1 small slice of cucumber. Drink came up to 11.50 euro. read more

I really enjoyed the stay here. It was very clean and an excellent view. The bed was extremely comfortable. You are within walking distance of most areas. You can show up early or check out and they while hold your luggage until you are ready. The check inn staff were extremely helpful and spoke English very well. For being a bit outside the main train station area, the location is extremely convenient. S-Bahn lines 1-8 all pass through Rosenheimer Platz and you can enter the hotel without going to the surface since there is an entrance from the underground shopping passage. For those who want to eat on the cheap by heading to the grocery stores, there is an ALDI and another supermarket between the S-Bahn tracks and the entrance to the hotel. However, the mini-bar fridge in the room is automatic and there is very little space for personal use. My room was spacious and clean and the employees at the reception desk were friendly. It has a pool, which is a nice bonus and the pool area is quite nice and inviting. On a few sites including their own, I saw mention of a fitness center and the availability of internet in the rooms. Where I looked, no fees were specifically mentioned so (realizing I was being optimistic) I had a slight hope that these would be free. The fitness center is in the building complex and not directly associated with the hotel. I didn't check the prices or how easily it is to go as a visitor. The internet is 30 cents a minute for the first hour and, if you use more than an hour, it is 22EUR per day. read more

Stayed at this hotel during a Gate1 travel trip on Nov. 27. We toured Christmas Markets in Munich, Nurenburg, Salzburg & Vienna. This hotel was very nice & the breakfast buffet was excellent.
