Went in on a Tuesday night. Casino has two levels and is relatively small. Slot machines on the first floor and tables on the second. It's clean and well-staffed. It costs around 9 bucks U.S. to get in (card only). Coats and hats MUST be checked. Also, registration is a requirement and they take your driver license/ID info as well as a photo of you. So if you're a private person, I'd skip this place. There aren't a lot of tables upstairs at all, so I can only imagine how hard it would be to get into one on crowded nights. Most of the familiar games are there, including blackjack, ultimate texas hold em, and roulette. No craps though. Lowest minimum bet I saw was actually 5 euro. Despite being rather small, this is not a bad place to try your luck if you're OK with a cover charge and giving your info away. read more

Zero stars if I could. Our experience at Holland Casino was deeply disappointing and disheartening. My family and I planned to visit, possibly to play some slots and tables, but we were stopped at the entrance and told my younger sister, who is 23 years old and has Down syndrome, would not be allowed in. Despite explaining that she wouldn't be playing and offering to pay the entrance fee for her, we were still denied entry. This was, without a doubt, the most upsetting part of our trip to Amsterdam. While they suggested we write a letter, the responsibility should be on them to reevaluate such an exclusionary policy. I would strongly encourage anyone who supports individuals with disabilities or special needs to reconsider visiting this place. read more

My friend was on the waiting list for Omaha Poker, so I decided to play Black Jack or Poker stands. In these Poker stands (different from the regular Poker table), the player plays against the casino. There were two types of stands. Type I: Player bets and gets two cards, the casino gets also two cards. Then comes the flop, turn and river cards. The player must beat the Casino. But, can he? What are the odds? When you understand that the worst position in a NLH table are the Small and Big Blinds, then you understand that your chance of beating the casino is very slim because you MUST play whatever you are dealt with, folding is not an option. Type II: This is much much worse than Type I. The player bets and receives 5 cards, and the dealer receives 6 cards. Again, no folding, in effect, the player with his 5 cards must beat the casino with 6 cards. This task is impossible not even in a short run, let alone in a long run. For Gods sake stay away from these two money traps. The odds of winning here is almost the same as playing Three-card Monte. read more

I'm an American poker player, with decent poker skills. I was fence sitting playing here based on some of the reviews I gathered from various sites and sources (that were quite dated). I was also fearful of the stiff EU competition...not knowing what kind of spanking was awaiting me from my European brethren. The place opens at 12! So don't come early. I came around 11:15, and was bummed that I came early. I went to a nearby cafe' for a latte... chatted a bit with the locals. I overstayed maybe 30 minutes or so --- So i arrived at the Casino around 12:30. As soon as you enter, there's a complimentary coat and bag checkin service to the right. This is compulsory. There was a bit of a swarm of people trying to get in. You are required to have a passport to get in, if you are out of the country. I handed her my passport. They charged a 5 Euro cover. She put my information in their system and then I entered. The poker tables were downstairs. They were doing a lottery draw for a poker tournament of 330 euro. I didn't come to play a tournament nor did I have the stamina. I signed up for the cash game, I was the second on the list.. They only had 2 NL games available for signup. 5/5 with a max buyin for 1000 Euro, and a 5/10 (don't recall the max buyin for this). She said, the game would start by 2 pm. I was the first on the table. There are predominately three kinds of chips used: 5 Euro (gray), 10 Euro (blue) and 100 Euro (yellow). I bought in for 500, and I wanted all blues. I am not fond of having 100 Euro chips. A smaller chip stack psychologically looks inferior and gives off a weaker image. I'm not going to lie... I ran really good in two hours of play... netting about 700 surplus euro. I stopped playing around 4 PM, when I accumulated close to 1200 Euro. You just need to play fundamentally sound poker. Pick your spots, and play with good strong hands. In preflop i mucked a few winners that would have put me over 2k euro easy, and also dodged a few bullets. The competition is varied... not full of sharks, but the table isn't fishy either. Within 15-25 minutes you'll get a good grasp of who to avoid in a showdown, and who you probably have beat. I ran really well...but I played really well. Its not about having monster hands, its about converting them! Three hands: Preflop I had pocket 66's... I flopped a set... and by the river I had a boat. I wasn't going anywhere. I crushed my opponent for about 200 Euro early on. Another prominent hand. I had QJ and turned a straight. River actually made the straight even more probable, with 4 cards on the board. Guy still calls my bet, and I get paid off with straight. Last hand. There's a raise of 20 preflop and 3 callers., I have pocket 10's. I raise to 100. Two fold, but the guy firing the 20 bet calls. Flop: There are 3 cards to a straight on the board. 7-8-9. I have the 10's... So i'm sitting on open ended... I call his bet on the flop (i don't remember how much it was maybe 40/60)... It's affordable. turn card is 6. I have the straight, and I put the guy all-in (he probably has 200 behind him). Being somewhat pot committed, he calls me, and I win the pot. But there was this older female on the table... straight up shark... in her late 30's early 40's with blonde hair. I was trying really hard to win some chips from her...but a monster never materialized when she had a hand and vice versa. I had a good image on the table, so I took advantage of it and fired a 1-2 preflop bluffs as well. Again... bluffs are require almost a science of timing, image, and playing the board. I left pretty happy. I didn't bother going the next day... wanted to leave amsterdam a winner!!! Closing notes: The rake is 5% of the pot, capped at 20 max. Blinds were 5/5. On average players bought in for 800 Euro. Preflop 15/20 raise was pretty standard... I give this place 3 stars, because they don't have many if hardly any cash games running. Its like 1-3 tables tops... I think they do a 2/2...but I think its on weekdays only... Something about it not being ran at the time i was there. Also the f**king cover!!! As if you aren't making enough money on robbing people... they charge you 5 Euro cover every time until you exceed like 15/20 visits and qualify for a membership card that entitles you to other perks. I can't comment TOO much on the competition because two hours of play on a Saturday -- on a first visit -- doesn't put me in a strong position to accurately critique the skill level of the game played here.... My playing size sample is not nearly large enough! But its poker.... in the end... what's flopped a winner, doesn't always end that way! read more

After working in the Max Euweplein for the last few months, I never really had a desire to come here. But we were moving offices so I would never be this close again so I figured why not? First off -- cover charge at a casino? That is new for me. I've already lost to the house without even drawing a card or pulling a slot machine handle. Second, this place is a lot bigger than it looks from the outside. There are your standard poker, blackjack, slots. There is also a salsa club deep in the bowels of the casino (I think the basement?) where they have really cool interactive tables where you can be a big kid while sipping on a mojito. As far as tables are concerned, there aren't too many small buy-in/ante tables. The minimum bet for most tables was 10 euros per hand. Maybe I'm too used to US casinos that have $5 tables that make my $50 last longer than 20 mins. The decor, layout, and environment are pretty decent. I'd put it on par with a middle of the road Vegas casino. read more

Worst customer service experience ever... I played roulette for about an hour and lost around 500 euros. To mix things up, I decided to grab lunch elsewhere in the neighborhood. I was back at the casino within about 45 minutes, and the man working at the entrance said I couldn't enter the casino because the shirt I was wearing had a team logo. (This was completely absurd, since I was already admitted to the casino wearing the same shirt!) The man (older with glasses) said "This is not a soccer stadium, and therefore you cannot come in". I asked if that was how he spoke to all clients. He responded, "We do not have clients, we have guests". The employee continued to be extremely rude and unprofessional through out the interaction. I called the casino to get the representatives name to file a complaint, but was told that they have 300 employees and they wouldn't be able to find out who I spoke to. Gamble elsewhere!!! read more

Very bad customer service!! Me and my family visited the casino at the end of our trip, so we took our luggage there. However, there were no storage room for our luggage. I understand that luggage are not allowed in casino and the casino have been strictly avoided that. So me and my family discuss it for a minute about that. And the staff started to yell us out with her unfriendly, rude attitude. It had been ruined my last evening in Amsterdam. To be fair, let me state from the onset that I was only in this casino for about 45 minutes. I didn't see any live gaming tables so maybe they are in a different part of the building, not sure. Two stars because they have the audacity to charge 5 euros just to get in the door. I found that kind of hilarious, actually-- hey, let me pay for the pleasure of being a sucker! I didn't pay because the place I am staying at had a kiosk full of discount coupons and maps with special deals printed on the borders and one of those gave free admission so I decided to check it out. It is a very small slot area, smaller than any casino I've seen in the US. It is clean, well lit, pleasant enough. No free drinks, no hostesses that I saw, there is a bar area that was fairly crowded. The machines I saw were familiar and most were in English with a few that catered to the Dutch language. I didn't see anyone winning anything and I promptly lost 15 euro, so I decided to quit while I was behind. I wouldn't even call this place a casino based on the part of it I saw, but then again I was probably missing the live action gaming tables part, where ever that may be.
