Eugene designed a beautiful plan for us which we are implementing it in stages as our budget allows. Euguene walked our property, so he was able to best design with products conducive to our very windy hill top and dry shallow soil bed. The installation so far has been is exceptional and his crews are very, very hardworking and professional. Great plants, cheerful young staff, knowledgeable botanists and staff who will happily drop their watering chores to help customers find the plant they are searching for. Always. I've been shopping here for over twenty years. Today, however, I had an unfortunate run in with Mr Grouch on his golf cart. It seems I broke the rules. When driving in the " back way" we saw the exact shrub ( a massive dappled willow /pictured below) we came to buy. So, instead of parking the car, getting a wheeled cart and returning back to the plant, we stopped, put the four foot tall shrub into the car and drove around to pay. For those who don't know the layout, Hollandia improved their parking a few years ago. Instead of limiting parking to the front of the building, they have created a massive parking lot deep into the back of the nursery where the commercial vehicles can access their big orders. It is a huge operation. This is an improvement for those of us who usually buy as much as we can fit into our cars. But, I will grant, that it also exposes the operation to potential shoplifting as cars are now permitted into the yard itself. Today, though, my 85 year old husband and I decided we could eliminate the usual park, get cart, return back across yard to get shrub, pay, return to car, load shrub. You'd have thought we sprayed Round Up on the annuals. Old Mr Grouchy explained that this is not what is done. I asked, " Do you really want me to return the plant, get a cart, pick up the plant all the way on the other side of the yard and return to the same spot where we are standing?" I thought he might be inclined to give a senior citizen like himself a bit of a break with the usual routine. Guess not. He explained that he was even older ( as he is sitting in his golf cart) and that a lot of 80 years olds shop there and observe the rules. Well...this one didn't and won't ever again. Good bye Hollandia. Love the plants, love the staff but the boss is a small minded lout. It seemed far more important for him to chastise us for breaking the rules than to have been understanding of our particular method of purchase. read more

the absolute worst customer service!!! I have been a repeat customer for over 22 years -- spent thousands of $$$$. I recently spent another &1,500 on 7 plants, 2 of which recently died within 4 weeks of planting -- cost $400. for the 1st time ever in 22 years. I took pictures before my landscaper removed them so I could get a refund. No luck! Sally, an owner (who personally sold me the plants). Said a pic was not good enough and told me to contact my landscaper to get the plants back so they could look at them!!! Who does that! it was obvious from the pics I showed her that they were dead! Wow never again will I purchase from them. they Are eager to take your money but forget it if the product fails! Shame on you Hollandia! read more

Got to visit Hollandia today! Was super excited because they have their fall display out & it looked amazing. So much variety from the pumpkins, to nursery flowers, and the regular selection of summer plants. The service was incredible and I loved seeing all the families enjoying the season. Today I got 2 pumpkins & a fern. They had a whole chart describing the varieties which I had no idea.. I was impressed with the selection. & although I wanted the gardenias im soo glad with my pick as I'm a fern enthusiasts who enjoys her plants! Rude Staff. Following me around the entire time I was browsing and felt very uncomfortable so decided to leave. One elderly woman in particular who seemed to have been a manager of some sort chased me out when I didn't purchase anything and yelled at me for attempting to leave through the wrong door. Just because I wanted to get out of there, she raised her voice in a nasty tone that I will break the door and cornered me literally with her broom. Completely ridiculous. I will deter everyone I know not to step foot in that establishment based off of other things I've heard about her as well, they do not deserve a dime of your money. read more

The business expanded to include acres on Old Hawleyview Road, along with a business partner, Ken Kolwicz, to buttress this growth. I am unfamiliar with navigating New England geological and climate features (e.g ledges, spring seep, strong, cold western winds) and find the detailed, patient, and knowledgable advice of Eugene, a son of nursery founders Hans and Sally, as well as other long-standing nursery workers, makes me feel more confident about my tree and shrub investments. Also confidence boosting, I've observed extra thought and care are given to installation of trees and shrubs, with a special process of adding amendments to stimulate root growth and boost soil nutrients during stressful transition to new location. Customer service was horrible. I have been in this area for 40 years and I always had a good experience with them until now. I later on found out that Hollandia has been sold. Stay away. It is a pity but their level of service, counseling and guidance of plants that you can get there is 0. I purchased plants and after a week we're dying on me. I went back requesting an exchange or refund and the person in charge ( I believe his name was Toni, had a mustache) was horrible, He was the same person who sold me the plants with minimal effort or support. The original family owners were dedicated and helpful, the current owners do not care about their customers. read more

Hollandia undeniably has the best selection around. They have nice nursery stock, but its generally expensive for what it is. After a bad business dealing where they failed to honor their written guarantee, I will not be buying from them. I bought 25 trees from them and countless plants over 10+ years. My last interruption shows that Hollandia is not loyal towards long-term customers. Also, I noticed they sell Sevin and other toxic insecticides in the gift shop. This makes me question whether they really are bee-friendly. read more

Lots of annuals, perennials, veggies and trees all in beautiful surroundings. Many great finds in the little shop. I am disabled and use a cane. In larger places. I need a wheel chair with my husband pushing. The areas in hot houses are easy to get around in. The staff was so nice asking if they could provide any additional assistance and fetch any plants for me. I am very independent, so did not need anything, but appreciated their kindness. read more

My husband and I recently purchased a specimen tree at Hollandia for our 40th wedding anniversary after purchasing it but before it was delivered and planted, we realized that the fruit of this tree could be poisonous to young children and animals. We have many grandchildren and two rambunctious dogs and were unable to take possession of the tree. We called Hollandia and I spoke with Kyle, who was very understanding and said no problem come on back and we will find another tree that's equally as beautiful and that will bloom during your anniversary week. We did that and just got home. We're very happy with our choice and very happy with the customer service and knowledge of Kyle and everyone at Hollandia We will definitely be back!! read more

Hollandia has great plants/products and plants are in top notch condition, but pretty expensive. The main issue is that their customer service is spotty. You never know if someone is going to be helpful or if you feel you are just bothering them with your questions, same with their cashiers. Excruciatingly expensive! After over 30 years of giving them my business I stopped shopping there last year after hearing Eugene, the owner's son, lose this temper and publicly humiliate and berate a young male employee. Well, It's spring and I thought I'd give them a second chance. Multiple plants didn't have price tags. I patiently waited for a young woman to recommend and describe a ton of plants to an older couple. When the couple started to talk to each other I said "excuse me, could I just ask a quick question?" She said "No" , I told her I just wanted to know the price of the plant in the small green pot. She told me the price was on the tag, but there was no price tag on the variety I wanted. She then told me it wasn't her job and that I needed to ask the owner or take it up front. So I carried it halfway across the nursery and on the way passed by a grouping of the same shrubs but four times larger and in double the size of pot for $49. I went up to the cashier to inquire and was told she thought it was $23 (an interesting number) then called and was quoted $49. I explained that this was a much smaller plant & pot and she couldn't care less and didn't go look at the larger one. DONE!!! Not worth the aggravation read more

Hollandia goes above and beyond any business I've experienced. I'm a long time customer, they've always made me feel like someone special, but recent events knocked my socks off! Every year I buy a Christmas tree from Hollandia before Thanksgiving - a big one, 10 to 12 feet. I'll pay for it and they'll deliver it the first week of December. The tree gets tagged as sold and my name put on it. They delivered my tree on Friday Dec 3rd, it had my name on it (in my handwriting), but it wasn't my tree, it was only 8 feet tall. Another customer decided they liked my tree, took off my "sold" and name tags and placed it on another tree - they stole my tree. A family of Grinches. I called Hollandia, though it wasn't their fault, they took ownership and went way beyond what was necessary to make things better for me! They had ten trees left in my size that were still wrapped up. They brought them all down to the Hawleyville location (which is closed for the winter), hung them all up and once their branches "fell" called me to come down at my leisure to pick one out. A private tree showing for me!!!!! The thought, time & effort Hollandia put into making me happy was way beyond what any other store or person has ever done for me. What a way to turn lemons into lemonade. This was something special for me that I'll remember for the rest of my life. There is a Santa and he lives at Hollandia! read more

I spent $160 on two peony shrubs last year. I planted them side by side, exactly the same way, in a brand new bed. This year, one bloomed beautifully, the other has no blooms. Great foliage, but I don't grow peonies for foliage. I called Hollandia, and they basically said "Sorry, that's just mother nature, maybe it will bloom next year, there's nothing anyone can do." They always have a great selection, but that's my last purchase there. read more

I purchased two glass garden balls that are solar powered for my daughters for Easter. We placed one outside last week and waited for the sun to charge it and light up. This never happened. My other daughter's lit up beautifully. I called Hollandia and explained the situation. I told them I don't have the receipt but I have the bank statement and I would like to exchange it for a working one. These were only about 6 inch balls and were quite pricey. I was told they can do nothing for me since hard goods must be returned in 7 days and with a receipt. So I am stuck with an expensive garden ornament that doesn't work. They made no attempt to remedy the situation and have lost a customer. read more

Do not use Hollandia for landscape design. They will promise you a time frame for planting then keep kicking the can down the road to suit their schedule. And their design will maximize plantings, to their benefit -- contrary to today's preference for a simpler landscape. We were so unhappy that we walked away and left $750 on the table. (Be forewarned that their design fee is not credited toward purchases, either.) After waiting months, they told us they were coming the exact week we told them (more than once) we would be on vacation (and hence wouldn't be able to oversee the watering of a new landscape) . That was the last straw for us. And this is how they treat someone with a $30,000-plus job! read more

I have been buying plants, gifts and gardening supplies...annuals, perennials, hanging baskets, etc from Hollandia for many, many years. I was shocked by the prices of everything including common houseplants during my visit last month. Everything was very overpriced and l could no longer support the greed or the egos involved. A shame because l had many healthy plants from here through the years and bought regularly. Will not pay current prices which are outrageous to the average gardening consumer or house plant collector. The consumers they are marketing to may be willing to pay such prices but l will not be returning. read more

What a great place!!!!!! customer service is terrific and the hospitality of there whole team is awesome . The quality and unique selection of plant material is the finest around. I love the farm setting and sounds of the chickens crowing while I pick out my herbs. The store up the road is also one of my favorites gift and garden. The prices are no higher than other garden centers in the area and there selection does not compare. I just moved into a new house, right before the quarantine started. I wanted my yard to look happy, to do something that would make people smile and know that we were going to take good care of this house. Pansies... but how to get them? I heard from a friend that Hollandia was doing curbside pick up, I called them, they took my order, when I arrived, they put everything in my car. I even got some spinach plants for my vegetable garden. They were so kind and understanding, It warmed my heart to know that I had a place to get my garden supplies. The pansies were the nicest ones I have ever had, they are full and beautiful. read more

Terrible customer services. bought two blueberry bushes from them on father's day. they were both next to each other. both getting the same amount of sun and water. Unfortunately, my father in law passed away unexpectedly the day after father's day and I was not able to plant them. One of the bushes turned burn and the berries dried up. I took both bushes back to show the conditions of the two plants. They had no sympathy that my father in-;aw died and that I should have gotten the bushes into the ground. I explained that both bushes were next to each other getting the same amount of water and sunlight, so why was one healthy still being in the pot and the other. Didn't want to here it. Only offer a 50% credit. Plant was only $30, so for $15 they were willing to lose a customer for life. It's too bad since my daughter was with me and we where going to buy $200 of additional plants and bushes. Not after they were not willing to back their product or show any compassion. I am thrilled with my plant material from Hollandia. The plants I planted last year from Hollandia are beautiful. So beautiful, I came back a few times this year for more plants. One plant did not survive, I called Hollandia and they told me to bring it in, they refunded me half the cost. Come to find out, I planted the shrub in full shade that is why it did not thrive. I am very satisfied with the material, and even more satisfied with the customer service offered. read more

I made two calls to both Hollandia locations to ask if they had a specific flower (perennial) in a certain color. Both locations told me yes - but at the location that has the crafts etc. I drove 25 minutes and guess what - NO PLANTS. They had the "other color". This is the THIRD TIME I was told this over the past few years. Even after speaking to the "expert" in the field who knows the stock. NO, the plants were not bought before I drove there. They WERE bought 3 to 6 weeks prior. They, at both locations, clearly LIED. Why do that? To get a person there anyway and more often or not that person would buy something else. Slippery tricksters. Don't bother with them - so many other great nurseries around the same areas! read more

I can't say enough great things about Hollandia Nurseries! For a few years we had tried various places for Christmas trees and EVERY time they died early, endless needles falling off, and just all around issues. Last year we came to Hollandia and it was the best tree we have ever had not to mention getting to see Santa! Between the incredibly knowledgeable and friendly staff and the trees actually being OPEN so you can SEE the fullness, branches, details of the trees, so you know what you are purchasing. As for the cost I have to say compared to the other places we went to, they weren't all that much more money and since the tree doesn't die before Christmas, I'll happily pay a little more! I highly recommend going here for Christmas trees, everyone I recommended them to last year and who purchased from them all were incredibly happy and will be going back again this year! read more

If I could give a minus one star, I would. Last summer I bought 6 bushes delivered and planted by Hollandia, thus guaranteed for a year. I've called at least 6 times over the past 6 weeks to tell them 3 are dead as a doornail - and yes, I know all about Butterfly bushes. These are dead. No one returns my calls - "Eugene" is supposedly the one who handles this. Each time I call he is unavailable, yet they say he has received all my messages. Last time they said he is too busy dealing with NEW clients (warning - once they have your money, and you're not "new" - you don't matter and neither does their guarantee). I paid almost $300 for the 3 dead bushes, but the one I bought a few years ago from Lowes for $15 and planted myself is just fine! I'm so sick of the rude, condescending attitude that they don't need to respond, despite their "guarantee" that I don't even want these people on my property. I not only do not recommend them - I suggest you go to Lowes. read more

They sold and planted a tree that died and was in their warrantee time. We called each week and were told someone would be out the next day. After a month I went in and was told they would come with a new tree the next morning. Surprise no one showed up. Finally 2 days later they showed up. I will never do business with them again!!!
