I got such a huge amount for a really great price - huge selection of vegetables, a very sweet worker to help to find what I was looking for and pick the best ones, and gave me some great tips. I even shared my pickle recipe with the girl at the cashier. They used to have great prices, now they are a few dollars less than other nurseries. They used to give you a few dollars off if you bought more product. Now, not so much unless you are a busty woman wearing a sexy top. I was offered a 7% discount off a $130 purchase, a busty woman with a tight top was given 15% off $60. If you are more than 20 minutes away, not worth the drive unless you are spending a few hundred $$. read more

Usually I am treated pretty fairly. I have been coming for years and as a designer, I beautify a lot of small businesses and residentail properties. Over the years I have been offered wholesale pricing. Today I came later in the day, I was told that if I was just grabbing a few things they would accommodate me. I appreciated that. However I was told my total was over 200 for 5 flowers. I said that's not wholesale. They said the price went up. I said ok. Then Nick proceeded to talk about me under his breath. His brother was uncomfortable and that I noticed. I put my sunglasses up to allow eye contact to exchange and make them aware that I didn't appreciate what just took place. Small or large purchas, customers should be treated with respect. Muffling things under your breath and whispering in front of a customer is highly unprofessional and simply rude. I have been a loyal Filanowski customer for 30 years. But this year, I can't give them my business. Last year, the owner, who has always been professional and helpful, was in another couple's face about politics. I asked another employee if this was the political opinion of Filanowski's as a company or just one individual. I was told it's a free country and people can say what they want. I said then I have the freedom to spend my money where I want and said goodbye. I haven't gone back. I can't describe how I really miss shopping there! But as a customer, I don't need or want to know vendors' politics whatever they are. Even though I'm speaking up here, I know I'm just a drop in the bucket to them. read more

Love this place. If you are trying to get your home garden in order this should be the first place you come to. Before you go to any of the big box stores to get your plants you should come here. They have just about anything you may want from flowers to plants, herbs and anything else. The owner and staff are super friendly, often giving you very useful advice on how to care for and plant your plants. The prices are at least 1/3 to 1/2 of what you would pay anywhere else. Gorgeous annuals, the MOST stunning hanging baskets, amazing quality and selection- and the best prices in Fairfield county. The hanging baskets put Lowe's and Home Depot to shame at literally half the price. Plus... it's run by a very nice family. Definitely worth the drive if you are not in Milford... but make sure you clean out your car first because you will be bringing a ton of plants home. I spent $145 on plants in May purchased from M. Filanowski and sons. As I was checking out, I was appalled to hear Homophobic remarks from the owner (father) to teenage son about "what are you some kind of queer?". I'm sure this is just scratching the surface, if someone feels comfortable to make homophobic remarks around their customers, I can only imagine the other things that are said behind closed doors (racist, sexist?) I feel badly for the young kids, who are super sweet and clearly hard workers - I won't be going back to support this business anymore with a good conscience. read more

Visited a few days ago. Decent plants, however none of the employees were wearing masks or wearing one properly (not covering their nose.) Masks were also NOT required, which is highly concerning considering we are in a pandemic. Will not return or recommend. Very disappointing as I love to garden. read more

It is unfortunate that Debbie G. Had an unpleasant experience at Filanowski Farms. I have been buying plants and Christmas Trees there for almost 40 years. We all know that it is not wise to discuss politics while at work but I will say this. I am sure nothing personal or racial was meant by it. That family is one of the most charitable families around. They donate countless $ in plants to churches, schools and other charities. When they charge those groups it is basically at cost. I know because I have purchased many plants at their cost for a group home.I have never known them to harbor any ill will to anyone of any color, religion or political affiliation. We have been shopping at Filanowski's for decades, and have always found them to have an excellent selection of plants, amazing potting soil and great prices. They also provide a wealth of plant information for free to their customers. When we compare the quality of their plants and the prices to other nurseries, they are, without a doubt, the best place to shop. Usually there are no less than 2 or 3 people working in front ranging in all ages. It is unfortunate that this customer had a bad experience. I went there for the first time today and I didn't see a desk or something indicating where I could get assistance. Then, I see one man wearing a shirt that stated the name of the company so I asked him a few questions about a particular plant I was looking for. When it was time to "check out" , I had to ask another customer where that was and he pointed "that guy". When it was my turn, he said "this is how you make sure the plant lives " and proceeds to pull some of them out and then says "I could also probably show you how to parent too." What the hell?? I was holding my infant in my hands. He had never seen me before yet makes a comment like that. I did feel a bit offended because he didn't know me as I know I am an amazing mom to my daughter . I shouldn't take it personal but at the same time I feel people do need to have a filter . Then, I asked how much for the plant and completely forgot that the sticker was on the pot of $15, but he tells me $20! He overcharged me for this perrenial that I bought. I forgot about the sticker price and didn't realize it until i came home and planted it. I won't be going back there again. Very unorganized and no system in place. If he overcharged me, I'm positive he was doing that to many others. I don't remember his name. It's also a cash or check only place so there's no way to track the purchases- they also did not provide any receipts so I'm not driving 30 minutes round trip for $5 - its not worth it to me especially with the insane gas prices so, I decided to write a review instead. read more

Went to Filanowski Farms today in the pouring rain and Mother's Day got a great deal as usual on my flowers. Got to talk to the older father and younger son who own the farm. Love this farm and the people who work there! I've been rummaging through their treasure filled green houses since I could remember with my mom. I used to get so excited to go when I was young and now I get excited to take people and show them all I've found. The Filanowski's have fair prices and have always been beyond kind with the fountain of knowledge thy have to offer. As far as I'm concerned people should be able to wear/ support whatever political party they choose as long as nothing is pushed on anyone and I can't imagine after going here for several years anyone treating anyone unfairly wether it's because of race or politics.
