Review Visit: September 17th, 2014 Pop. Pop. Get your popcorn here! Popcorn is like a burger sandwich or pizza. You can get your basic form of the food but the sky is the limit on the various ways to prepare it. Pizzas, sandwiches and popcorn are one of the many foods that comes in a million different flavors and combinations. Maybe not everyone loves popcorn (do these people even exist?) but places like Holland's Caramelcorn can offer popcorn lovers a seemingly endless variety to pick from. Having been through the Washington Square a few times, I noticed there were some cool and interesting shops to check out. So, I planned a day to explore the town's square and see what the local community has to offer. Upon finding a parking spot and entering the store, I knew I liked the place. It had this welcoming feeling to it and the person behind the counter was super friendly. The store was wide open and kept the merchandise against the walls. This allowed my friend and I an easy way to browse their wares. If you came here expecting to get much beyond the popcorn and soda, you will be disappointed. This store specializes in the popcorn and random sodas you've never heard of before. Luckily, there is a shop next door called Holland's Mercantile. But that's for another blog post. While we wandered the store, I managed to accumulate a handful of popcorn and sodas to take home with me to enjoy at my leisure. I don't remember how much everything cost but I wasn't worried about spending a few extra bucks to support local businesses. I will be honest, I may not have waited to get home before sampling some of the goods. The soda was a root beer variety and was bubbly and good. The popcorn, which the flavor escapes me, was good, tasted fresh, and had a bit of that grandma's love put in to it. Overall, it was a nice stop to pick up some goodies and to support a local business. If you happen to need some need for gourmet popcorn and odd ball sodas, you can't go wrong at Holland's. I believe they even do bulk orders for businesses. Remember, try to support those local businesses around you if at all possible. read more

Ready to go into a small town, Mom and Pop type store and give your tastebuds a trip on the stairway to Heaven?? This is the place for you. Right in Washington, Illinois' town square, it's a small place with BIG tastes! I visit relatives in the E. Peoria/Washington area every few years from SW Florida, and I NEVER miss a trip to Avanti's, Emo's, and Holland's! Each place is worth the 1400+ mile trip, but Hollands has the added gift of letting me take some home! The caramel corn is sweet and salty and especially caramel-y, with each bite crunchy and fresh. They have it with and without nuts, so don't confine yourself to just one type. That's not all, though. They also have a cheesy corn that tastes like you hoped the new Cheeto's Pop Corn tasted like. (which was a HUGE disappointment! Imagine how thrilled I was to see cheesy corn available at my local store...that is, until I tasted it! Cheeto's/NO. Holland's/a BIG resounding YES!!) Holland's tastes like Cheetos on yumminess steroids! Holland's has lots more flavors that are incredibly yummy. They add nuts and other goodies to their popcorn with amazing new flavors. If you're within a couple of hundred miles, make a day of it. Drive to the Peoria Area and go to Avanti's for lunch, then Emo's for chili dogs, then top it off with a few bags (or more) of Holland's Caramel Corn. Don't count on one bag being enough. The owners are extremely friendly and a popcorn is excellent. I recommend the puppy chow popcorn it is amazing.

If you haven't tried Holland's you need to go stat! This is seriously the best popcorn place in the world and gives Garrett's a run for their money! About a dozen flavors to choose from made fresh, and local, what more could you ask for? My personal favorites are birthday cake, toasted marshmallow, and Cinnabon. If you live local they have buckets you can take it and get filled with the regular Carmel corn at a discount. The square it's located is also full of life and fun to check out all the little local stores. If you're in the area or passing though, check it out, you won't be disappointed. read more

This isn't just any typical bag of popcorn... it's incredible! This spot was recommended to us and I wasn't expecting the popcorn to be that good. Boy was I wrong. We picked up several flavors, including the lightly salted white popcorn. The cheddar was unique and the carmel was one of the best I've had. This will undoubtedly be on our visit list again when we're back in the area. The gentleman at the counter was infectiously nice and a joy to talk with while I was shopping. read more

I've driven by this place so many times. What was I thinking? Thanks to my amazing brother and sister in law, we went here with our kids for ice cream and it did not disappoint! This is my favorite place to get Caramel Corn anywhere in the world! The Washington square location is the best! My wife and I come to Washington to visit family every year and anytime we are here we have to stop in for a treat. This visit we got Toasted Marshmallow, Caramel, Puppy Chow, and Cinnabun. They are all delicious. My favorite is definitely the Cinnabun. My wife's favorite is the Toasted Marshmallow. Highly recommended, two thumbs up! read more

The popcorn I had was good. Its also sold everywhere in town. I was disappointed that the actual place didn't have more flavors.

I am a fan of this popcorn joint. Their prices are fair enough for a specialty popcorn shop. I think caramel corn and cheese popcorn are $2.99 for a bag while specialty flavors are more like $4.99. Our larger bag of the Holland's Mix (caramel corn and cheese popcorn mixed together...if you haven't tried this combo then you're missing out) was $5.99, and it was delicious. The flavors were fresh! I also recommend their Butterfinger, Heath, and Cheddar Dill varieties. There are loads of bottled soda to peruse, however they're not chilled. Only a few select varieties are refrigerated (Coke, Crush, Mt. Dew...). I haven't tried their ice cream, but it sure looks good. I like that there are a few tables and chairs to sit down at. I think the ambience is pretty plain. They could really play up the charm in this place and embrace it's location. I love that you can see the popcorn being made and packaged, but the space could be better utilized in the future. But this is a newer establishment, so my fingers are crossed that they continue to grow as a business and grow into their unique location. I know I'll return here. read more

I only rated this A-Ok, because while the popcorn was outstanding, the woman at the counter was very rude. I guess she didn't feel like being at work today because she certainly let us know that we were annoying her. I would visit again and purchase more, but I would check to see who was working that day before I bothered, because it's not worth the hassle to deal with nasty people. If you decide to venture in, try the Holland's Mix, it's really great. read more

Great popcorn! I'd say it's on par if not better than Garrett's in Chicago, but with way better prices. They have a small stand in Northwood's mall where you can get samples of their many flavors. I recommend their Holland mix (Chicago mix), but we enjoyed most of the other flavors we sampled. read more

I'm surprised no one else has reviewed Holland's Caramelcorn! I wish I could rate 3.5 stars, because it's inbetween 'A-OK' and 'Yay, I'm a fan'. This was my first visit, and I had no idea they have so many varieties of flavored popcorn. We bought several bags to try, and they were all good. The only employee in the store was not friendly, but she did offer a free sample when we inquired about one of the flavors. The store also has a neat selection of soda in bottles, which I'm looking forward to trying in the future. There were also several varieties of ice cream... but not much else in the store. Popcorn, soda, and ice cream, that's it. Seemed like they had a lot of empty space. read more
