Today was my first time trying this place. The Midwest mix which is cheese and caramel is delicious and really reminds me of Garrett's popcorn, just cheaper I really liked it. I also tried the barbecue flavor, it was pretty good but a little bit salty, so I feel like you can't have as much of it at one time. They had samples out for the salt and vinegar flavor, that one was actually delicious. I will definitely be back to try other kinds. They have a punch card when you buy 10 bags, you get five dollars off your next order. They also give you points if you register with your phone number. I was amazed to see this place. What a collection of pop corns. I didn't know that popcorns can be in so many flavors. This place was a bit far from my house but was worth the drive. The 2 guy's working there were very polite and had a lot of patience. They had a smile on their face all the time and happy let us sample anything we asked for. They have 25-30 flavors of popcorns with about 8-10 in display. The store was beautiful decently decorated. The price seemed fair too. And they have some punch card too - 1 punch for every $10 you spend. I liked their Caramel popcorns and Siracha popcorns. We bought birthday popcorns and habanero popcorns and Cheesy cheese popcorns. I found this amazing popcorn shop, purely by accident. I love, love, love, cheese popcorn and it is not an easy task to find a good place out in the suburbs, or for that matter anywhere. We tried this place around the holidays to grab a few quick gifts and also some smaller bags for a movie night. Just no words but WOW!!!! So happy I discovered this new popcornery in the area. Popus is a nice little gourmet popcorn store on the busy Jefferson St. corridor in Joliet behind Golden Corral. During my visit the place was busy for a weekday with four people in-line waiting to order. While I waited the staff suggested I try samples for unique flavors offered during the holidays. I sampled a variety of flavors including the green & Carmel apples, banana pudding, barbecue, jalapeño cheese & plain butter. I enjoyed trying the new flavors and actually purchased three varieties to take home for my family to enjoy. The owner happened to be in the shop and invited me to enter the contest offered for National Popcorn Day. The popcorn shop also offers packaged candy & a variety of gift items. I decided to try POPUS after reading the earlier YELP reviews. So glad I did! On arrival, I was welcomed by a smiling young lady, who explained the flavors, prices, discounts and promos available, and offered samples. Plus, she put me on a rewards program, and put an app on my cell phone to track it. She was soon joined by her Mom and Dad, who own this new business. All were friendly and accommodating...ex: I wanted a custom mix of popcorn flavors and they were glad to do it. The best part? The popcorn is DELICIOUS...fresh, richly flavored, perfect texture. My husband and I were in your shop yesterday. Let me tell you if I knew how good your cheese corn was going to be I would have bought a 2 gallon tin. Just to give you some history, when I was a kid there was a popcorn shop in our local mall called Karmel Korn. That was the first time ever I had REAL cheese corn not the stuff from the grocery store in packages. It was the best thing I ever had in my life and I was addicted to it. I was heartbroken when the shop closed down back in the late 80's early 90's. Ever since they closed I have tried every cheese corn product I could possibly find in local shops, Garrett's, mail orders etc. I must have tried at least 50 different places since then. Last week we tried a place that just opened up in Westchester. They were ok but No body, I mean nobody comes close. A lot of them have a sweeter cheese which I don't like. When we sat down last night to snack on the cheese corn we bought at your store yesterday, I told my husband, this is IT. THIS IS IT. Oh my god this is finally it. Whatever you use to make it please don't EVER change it. It is perfect and it is what I have been searching for after all these decades. I am sooooo grateful for your shop opening and for the product you have. My husband LOVED your bacon cheddar. Unfortunately we live in DuPage County so we won't go as often as I would like, but maybe that's a good thing, if you know what I mean lol. Yum!! Stopped here yesterday after an early Valentine's Dinner at Al's. We noticed the sign and it just drew us in. We stepped in just 15 minutes before closing and staff was very friendly. I got the Cheesy Caramel. Oh my! Wished I had bought a bigger container. They do it right! So glad Joliet has a popcorn place. Now to my review. I went on opening day and everyone was polite. Line was not long so that was a plus and minus (mainly because I expected more support from community or it could have been the time in which I went which was about 5:30). Popcorn not very expensive ($3 for basic popcorn a $5 for small size mixed). Only downside is the cheddar had a lot of cheddar which almost made it taste a little spicy. Just stopped by Popus Popcorn and grabbed a few things bring home. While in the store I sampled several different popcorns and bought the wife some chocolate turtles. The cheddar bacon popcorn is amazing.. a perfect mix of the two flavors that really is virtually unstoppable to stop going back for another handful. The Chicago mix is absolutely loaded with flavor and dare I say that the cheddar is definitely the best I've had to date. Prices are very reasonable if you have ever been to a popcorn shop and like quality product. The ladies working the counter and serving the popcorn were laughing and having a good time while interacting with the customers which really topped off my visit here. Such an amazing shop! The employees were so helpful, friendly and informed on what this shop had to offer. It was great to see some place locally putting young adults to work, these employees seemed to take pride in the store, as if it was theirs! The samples were great, and whatever was not out on sample but behind glass and popped you could taste. I could not believe it when some ladies told me the owners were popping a fresh batch of vanilla ( delicious by the way ) because they really wanted to buy some!
