We live in NY and this farm is such a great place to come to each year. We love to see all the animals they have and love to watch the milking of the cows---happens twice a day. They sell fresh meats and raw milk. The bacon is flavorful and the milk is so creamy!! Make this a spot if you are on vacation in VT!! read more

This is a great place to visit . Hollister Hill Farm is a working farm in northern Vermont run by Lee and Bob Light. It's an actual profitable farm that raises and sells fresh raw milk, pork, vegetables, jams, maple syrup and beefalo meat (37% Buffalo) --all produced on their farm. It's a beautiful place with beautiful views and great-local- food for breakfast. Bob & Lee are excellent sources for recommendations for meals, day trips or whatever. All the rooms have their own bathrooms and are very nicely appointed. It's a great place for kids. When we were there, they had 2 golden retrievers, -mom and puppy-, several barn kittens and plenty of chickens that lay eggs where ever they feel like-so the kids had fun hunting them down. You are also 'allowed' to help with the 6 am or 5 pm 'chores' which involve feeding the pigs (btw they don't really smell like pigs can smell... a testament to the Light's keeping their environment clean) as well as helping milk their 6 doe-eyed Jersey milk cows...plus whatever else Farmer Bob can think of for you to do. If you're there on Monday you can say goodbye to pigs that are off on a 'field trip'... to come back later, in a, shall we say, different form. Highly recommended as a learning experience or just a nice time to relax. You'll probably want to turn in early though... they do have roosters. read more

Okay, so I went again to this wonderful place! The owners Bob and Lee Light are so nice! The farm got a new golden retriever named Lucy! Now, Lucy is a puppy in training so, Lucy acts like a puppy. But, Lucy is very calm and behaved for a Golden Retriever puppy. The breakfast is still great and their bacon and eggs are really good because they are a running farm! One more thing. I am a person who loves TV, video games, snow, and animals. This wonderful place has wifi for free, but no TV. But, with wifi, you could go on Netflix. The only entertainment you need is the animals, snow, and Bob and Lee. I highly recommend this place. read more

Literally the first and only unfriendly people I've met while in Vermont. I was on the porch with my 11-year-old daughter and my three-year-old son after snowshoeing there from our B&B, waiting for my wife to get there so we could go shopping at their store. After about five minutes, the proprietor came out and told us to move along like we were vagrants. This is for the bed and breakfast across from the store. Sounds like I'm not the only negative review for that place. UPDATE: Thanks for the note, Lee L. If you have no affiliation with the farm across the street, which welcomes people walking in and roaming around the property, you might want to put up a sign saying that customers of that institution are not welcome. You are quite perceptive that I was a threat to your property and guests as I was there with the rest of my criminal syndicate - a dangerous 11-year-old girl who serves as my safe-cracker, and a three year old boy known only as "The Shark." :) Anyway, if you had waited or even just asked me what I was doing there, you might have determined I was not a threat to your guests, and you would have sold a hundred dollars worth of meat when my wife pulled up a few minutes after you shooed us off... and maybe even landed a future customer to the BnB. Instead, your lack of hospitality earned you a negative review... which you're now compounding because, instead of proving a simple and magnanimous: "Hey - this was a misunderstanding. Sorry I made you feel unwelcome," which probably would have convinced me to upgrade or remove the review, you're trying to set the record straight with me online. Which kind of supports what I was saying about your BnB in the original post. Anyway, in conclusion: It's "role" not "roll." read more

My husband and I spent a lovely long weekend at Hollister Hill Farm in the end of February. An odd time of year to visit Vermont, we were looking for a cozy and quiet place to stay. I chose it over other area B&Bs because it is a working farm. We felt like little kids, we were so thrilled to spend time in the barn with the animals! The owners Lee and Bob have honed the perfect balance of warm hospitality and privacy - They're available to act as concierges as needed, but they also know how to make their guests feel that they really are free to make themselves at home on the property. The house is lovely, with 2 single rooms and a family suite upstairs. We stayed in the bedroom with the fireplace and loved it. Each evening when we returned from our adventures, there was an expertly prepared fire just waiting to be lit. Downstairs is a sweet and cozy common area, which boasts another fireplace we were encouraged to use whenever we liked, as well as books, a fridge/microwave, and games and art supplies for kids. The breakfasts alone are worth the trip, with the majority of the ingredients coming directly from the farm, including maple syrup and jam, bacon, eggs, and sausage. Lee is an excellent cook, and she and Bob are great company. Hollister Hill Farm is located very close to the adorable capitol city of Montpelier, and it is also convenient to drive to other area attractions including Ben & Jerry's, Cabot, and Burlington. read more

We've stayed at a lot of b&bs over the years, and this is one of our very favorites. 200 acres of beautiful farmland and views, delightful hosts in Bob and Lee, working farm experience with barn full of animals just across from the 1850 farmhouse that has comfortable and homey accommodations. And the breakfasts - almost entirely made from ingredients from the farm - are outstanding. read more

This review is NOT for the Farm & is For the B&B across from the Farm. My experience at the B&B was terrible. The owners are not only abrupt; but rude & "curt" comes to mind. The kitchen was filthy and dogs and dog-bones all over the floor in kitchen and hallway. The place smelled rancid- so I passed on the 'breakfast' that came with the room. Since I stayed to attend a conference & there were no other rooms locally, I stayed five days. I would NOT recommend this B&B or the owners. The review is based on cleanliness of common areas, smelly place, rudeness of hosts and lack of clean area for breakfast. The sheets in the room were worn and I wished I had brought my own linens. UGH! The sitting area and couches were dusty and smelled- old & charming -this isn't. Worn out & the hosts most terrible. I hear they're trying to sell. Good idea. read more

Hollister Hill Farm represents all the iconic wonderful things about Vermont we were hoping to experience. We were surrounded by beautiful rolling hills, deep valleys and winding country roads. This working farm is impeccable, inside and out. The beautiful farmhouse is tastefully decorated and has everything you need for a restful, or adventurous stay. Our room was delightful, with en-suite bath and cozy bedding.The spacious barn was occupied by happy animals who love to be admired! Hosts Lee and Bob were truly welcoming and very interesting people, who love meeting new folks and sharing their lovely home, farm and story. Breakfast was incredible everyday! My husband and I are hoping to return to spend more time enjoying the warm hospitality and life of this farm. read more
