That gorgeous dog on the front porch is Neko!
    Gorman B.

Hate doilies and pastel colors? So do I. Well, this week we had the pleasure of staying at The Grunberg Haus. Truly the dog loving, rock and rolling, mother-f***ing greatest B&B on the planet...and it just happens to be in Waterbury, Vermont! Did I mention there was a turntable in our room and a collection of vinyl that included THREE albums by the Replacements. Duane and Leah are the coolest hosts. Though they might be upstaged by Neko, a mammoth of a dog that might just be the sweetest creature we/ve ever met. I LOVE this dog. (She's named after Neko Case.) And I LOVE this place. If you're going to Vermont, you now have a place to stay that won't cause doily-itis. And if you're not planning a trip to Vermont, book one now because B&B's like this are a rare find.

I love this place. My wife and I have stayed here once for an overnight in the fall and we've come here with our 9 year old for a few days in the middle of the snowy winter. Each time we reserved one of the suites on the third floor as I'm a bit of a "privacy person". Grunberg Haus is a great place whether you value privacy, as I do, or are a social person, as my wife is. The rooms are private enough and have enough space that you can stretch out and relax - but if you want to socialize there's plenty of areas downstairs where people hang out, read and play. The owners really out do themselves with breakfast. Honestly, we weren't really hungry for lunch on the days we stayed there because the breakfasts were so good. I highly recommend the suites on the third floor - they're huge and very reasonably priced. The privacy that they give you exactly what I'm looking for.

Duane and Leah have created an absolute paradise at the Grunberg Haus. We had the best time! Amazing accommodations-comfortable bed, soft linens and towels, fantastic customer service, excellent food and the most relaxing and warm environment. And being dog lovers, we especially loved spending time with Neko! We're already planning our trip back and we're sure we will be coming here again and again for many years to come!

When my GF and I parked in front of this little B&B, I was charmed by the old fashion Swiss chalet aspect of the place. But sadly, the magic quickly disappeared when we entered our room. Bed and pillows were stiff and uncomfortable. We had to share the bathroom with another couple. Strangely, our room door didn't have a key-lock (like youth hostel) so it was not possible to lock our room when we left to go downtown. Wi-Fi was not working well. The walls and floors were so thin, that I was awake in the middle of the night when my room neighbor went to the bathroom. We even heard the lovemaking of a twenty-something couple during the evening when we were sitting in front of the fireplace downstairs. I don't mind staying in rustic hotel or B&B, but the price has to be in accordance with the service offered. Sadly, a night at the Grunberg Haus was about the same price of any other hotels around Waterbury. I gave 1 star for the old fashioned Swiss chalet ambiance and 1 star for the owner welcome and service. This B&B really need a major freshen up. It has the potential to be much better. If you like rustic and old fashioned B&B, the Grunberg Haus could be your place, if not, I don't recommend.

Our second trip to this location. It was just under a month from the last trip and the new owners really take Amazon pride at the property! Leah has been renovating the rooms to these adorable themed rooms! Hard to believe they have only been doing this for a little under 6 weeks but the space is amazing!! Highly suggested for young working professionals for a place to disconnect from the world. No TVs in the rooms (loved this part!), awesome new pool table in the lounge and as always love the BYOB bar that is an awesome spot to meet all sorts of cool traveling people! Will defiantly be back to visit again

My entire family (12 of us) just came back from a long weekend in Vermont and we stayed at the Grunberg Haus. It was in the negatives outside and the Inn was just the perfect place to be. From roasting marshmallows in the fireplace, to playing billiards, and just sitting around the table having a delicious breakfast served by owners, Leah and Duane, the time we spent at this Inn was the best time we had all weekend. It is rustic yet cozy and the owners are super nice people. We all had our own rooms and bathrooms -- just be sure to check their website for the layout of the Inn before selecting your rooms so you know which rooms have private baths. It was the perfect place for my family to have together time and also have time to escape back to their rooms. Leah and Duane, thanks so much for hosting our family. We loved your place!

The food was suburb! Lots of farm to table meals, and home cooked baked goods too. The staff went above and beyond creating plates just for me, a vegan, and for our girlfriend who is gluten free. I was treated to specially made vegan enchiladas for Cinco de Mayo, incredible tofu masala, tasty shashuka without the egg, Vermont maple soaked oats, and a memorable pineapple coconut rice pudding. Margaritas and Old Fashions were great, and the Heady Topper was free-flowing! Oh yessss! I loved fact that they use local fan favorite Fox Hollow Apple Cider too! Go for the cran-apple juice! Yum! The wedding was absolutely stunning! The ceremony was on the grass under the pretty arbor. The cocktail hour was on the terrace with passed hors d'oeuvrs, and the reception was in the round barn. Just gorgeous! The coordinator was on top of everything! I mean everything! Rehearsal, to hand-lettering, to fixing the bride's gown. Awesome job! The rooms were so lovely and each had their own personality. Some has a jacuzzi tub, all showers included a seat, which we love, and each room had a fireplace. I couldn't help but imagine how super romantic it would be laying in bed with that fireplace blaring on ones of those frigid, but beautiful snow-filled Vermont nights. Made me want to return late fall and around the holidays! The beds were super comfortable and our bed in "Dana" was a four post elevated, which required stairs. Loved it! We also had lovely views of The Green Mountains from our bed and there was a vaulted ceiling and a loft too. Wine glasses left for us also. We were very happy with Dana as our choice for rooms. No detail was overlooked here. I loved the black embroidered makeup towel for the ladies to use for face washing. The lovely toiletries were nice also. The warming tray for their hand made ceramic mugs...nice touch! The dining area was cozy, as was the game room where we enjoyed games of checkers and diving into one of the many books in the library. The staff were all wonderful and overly accommodating in every way possible. Check in was simple. Checking out even easier. We felt so safe and at home here we didn't even lock our room or use our key. The area is fantastic! It's right near Sugarbush for some skiing. There was even some snow left on the mountain early May! Warren Falls and National Green Mountain Forest is just down the road where the hiking is great, and the moose crossing signs are out! Warren Falls is great for families and has a swimming hole. Moss Glenn just a bit farther is a super impressive waterfall. Woodstock/Queeche, my favorite town in Vermont is just a half hour away and Stowe is about 40 minutes. Lots to do in both! I would absolutely come here again! Everything was pure bliss. The only mishaps which I should mention, but it didn't personally bother me one bit was that the power went out during a pretty bad storm. The rain pounding on that old roof so loudly and passionately....I thought it was super romantic! The staff was very well prepared with lanterns and flashlights, which actually makes me feel this isn't their first rodeo. Just a heads up. Highly, highly recommend for first timers to Vermont, for an iconic New England experience. It's equally as great for old pros who love the outdoors and need to reconnect with nature and/or one another, and for brides! It's definitely not cheap, but if definitely shows. It's a unique and special venue. Perfection.
