I have been working with Hollister since November 2016. I have worked at three different placements through Hollister before recently accepting a permanent offer at my third placement. I did not want to write a review until my time with Hollister came to an end. I feel like it can be tricky to review a staffing agency, as each person has their own individual experience with the agency and their placements, but I had a very positive experience with Hollister. I have worked with several temp agencies in the Boston area over the years and Hollister is by far the best one in my experience. Each recruiter and staff member I have worked with has been personable and professional, and they have all gone above and beyond to help me achieve my career goals. Unlike other agencies, I did not feel like a cog in the wheel, but rather like a valuable candidate with desirable skills. Remember, you get back what you put into your experience with any temp/staffing agency: if you show motivation, a strong work ethic, and the drive to be successful, they will want to place you somewhere great! Josh C. was my main contact during my time with Hollister. He checked in with me and made sure I was happy with my placements and helped me develop professionally. It was a pleasure to work with him. Megan helped to prepare me for interviews for permanent placements while I temped. Josh and Megan gave me resume tips, interview tips, and were very prompt about getting back to me regarding potential placements and interviews. Megan even took the time out of her day to meet with me after work, since my schedule would not allow for me to make it to State Street to meet with her before 5pm. Hollister not only helped me to find work quickly in November after I was laid off from my previous job, but I also felt that I have grown professionally from my experiences. p.s. Recruiters show extreme interest then ghost you, even when there are jobs you fit 100%. It's so frustrating. The last of communication is stunning. Their website is horrible: 1. it starts every listing with "We are The Hollister Group, the Boston area's leading women-owned staffing firm guiding candidates through the job search process and connecting top-tier talent with opportunities." HEY! WE DON'T CARE! WE WANT AT LEAST A SNIPPET OF A JD! 2. When you click to learn about a job and then go back to the full list, you have to sort again and start at the top. Really? You can't figure out a way around this? I'm on the job seeker side and I would NEVER, EVER, EVER recommend these guys. What a waste. I'm disappointed with the lack of communication from this agency following my interview. After being scheduled and prepared for the process, I was expecting at least a follow-up--whether positive or negative. Not hearing back at all feels unprofessional and leaves candidates in an unnecessary state of uncertainty. Clear and timely communication is a basic expectation in recruitment, and this experience did not meet that standard. read more

I used to sing the praises of Hollister, including here on Yelp in a review (which I deleted after a conversation with a recruiter that really set me back mentally). I had used this staffing firm for the better part of 10 years when I was looking for better opportunities. I was always treated with dignity and respect. Hollister was the shining light among the various staffing firms, who often have very bifurcated experiences among its users; staffing firms are either loved or hated. I loved Hollister for a long while. I told people that it was probably your best bet for staffing within the Boston area, and the most consistent, reliable, and friendly. And the people were kind. But it changed in 2022 for me. And I shared this feedback directly with the recruiter, but that recruiter stood their ground and never owned up to the fact that what they said was not professional or helpful to anyone, especially someone (me) who has always worked as a professional, has never had resume gaps, and has climbed up their way in the field. What was said to me was unwarranted and meant to shame me, likely because that recruiter was having a bad day. read more

I suppose I get it. They don't find jobs for people, they find people for jobs they already have. Maybe they're all like this and maybe that's the modus operandi for most staffing firms. That said, I've worked with other offices like Robert Half International (AccounTemps, Office Team) and their staffing agents make Hollister Agents look like geriatric farm refugees strung out on meth. I mean what the hell are they doing all day long? I've "worked" with both their temp staff and permanent staff. They NEVER return phone calls. I went in there in April, its August. I got one call from each department, ONE call in Four months. Epic Fail. Then I happen to go on their website two days ago. I noticed they had posted a job I was directly qualified for---i mean my skill set matched this job perfectly, I'm not exaggerating. What sort of monkey system do they have there when new jobs entered in their system do not pull up clients who's qualifications match? I'm assuming they actually plugged my details into their system. I'm assuming they have a system to begin with. Perhaps that's too kind. So I called the agent that day, twice. Left messages, twice. No call back. Next day, I call, that agent didn't pick up. So I asked to speak to the person who posted the job. Left messages, twice. No call back---what's going on Hollister? If ever there was a Lights On, No One Home Award recipient, its you. I'll give you one more week, since I'm desperate and need a job. But this is only desperation that's keeping me belted in. First chance I get, I'm going to see if their supervisors or managers actually care about all this. So far working with Hollister has been a fantastic waste of time, un-un-believable. I have to say I am really surprised at the amount of terrible reviews here. I was laid off in November and had 4 different agencies looking for me. Four. That's four different times I had to dress up, go to an office in the freezing cold and meet with some a-hole who was never going to call me back while said a-hole pretended to care about me and my job search. Now, by looking I mean that these a-holes were not answering phone calls or emails and only calling me when they had a job for which I was completely overqualified and was $10k less than my desired salary. After applying for a job on Monster I realized that I must have also posted my resume as I was all of a sudden bombarded with phone calls for temp jobs, including one with the employer that laid me off (did that recruiter read my resume at all?). Before I could take the resume down, I got a call from Anthony C. at Hollister. I have to admit I was kind of rude to him, but Anthony explained that he was calling me about a particular job, for which he thought my resume was a perfect match. When I met Anthony his excitement and enthusiasm got ME excited and restored my dwindling hope in ever finding a job! I feel like he read me well, he knew what I was about and what kind of employee I am. And more importantly, he sent me on an interview the very next day. That particular one didn't work out, but Anthony stayed on top of the case calling me a couple times a week to check in and let me know what he was finding in his search. I start a new job on Monday, and I have Anthony to thank. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a job and already have! read more

Hollister started out really well. I had who I thought was a great recruiter there and was sent on interviews almost immediately once I had my initial meeting with them. And then it all went downhill... I was sent on an interview at a pharmaceutical company. I was being open-minded, even though my background was finance. I had a horrible experience with the person I interviewed with and when I relayed this to Hollister, was pressured to go back for a second interview. I went back and also didn't have a great experience, but then Hollister wanted me to go back for a third interview. As I was getting ready to go back for the third time, I felt really uneasy and went in to meet with my recruiter, which is when I learned that the first 2 jobs were "filled" and now I was interviewing for a temp to perm job that I had no interest in. They wouldn't have even told me this if I had not refused to go. They tried pressuring me to go, telling me things like "well, you agreed to go and now you have to" and I just told them I wasn't going and walked out. Eventually my recruiter moved to another area and the next one I got only had one interview for me. In the end, I found a job through another recruiter ,but Hollister = HORRIBLE! read more

Hollster gave me a hard time about being properly paid so I had to file a complaint with the state attorney: additionally, they did nothing when the person they placed me with would abuse/harass me in my position and the lowlifes that work here would be angry with me when I reported harassment. Completely unprofessional, don't waste your time. My recruiter Taylor Sniffen berated me for how inconvenient it was that he actually had to make sure I was paid properly. I'm just glad I had a REAL job in my highly specialized field (neuroscience), that actually used my brain and my education, waiting in the wings for me once this whole mess happened. read more

Found a job through these guys, even during the economic toilet that was the Fall of 2008. Nevermind that the job itself wasn't what I reeeeally wanted to do with my life; it EXISTED, and was loosely related to my field, and considering all the resumes I sent into the ether without so much as an echo of the death rattle when they died of despair, that's pretty much miraculous in my book. I eventually got hired permanently, too (I've since left the job, but that's because of an impending cross-country move). Now clearly some Yelpers are not feelin' the love. Staffing firms can suck. PSG I'm looking in your direction. It depends on who they match with you to work on your case, and YOUR ATTITUDE. If the reason you're going through a staffing firm is because you have a lousy attitude and can't find a job on your own even when times aren't so tough, then you'll likely have a lousy experience with Hollister and any other staffing firm. But they were actually pretty good with me and have even stayed in contact (though not obnoxiously so) since I was hired. read more

I must say, these bad reviews that have been written about this place has to be false because I had the best experience with Hollister Staffing. I met with Andressa and she was so enthusiastic and helpful with helping me find what suits me in a job. She has a great personality and you don't feel on edge talking to her. She has a warm demeanor and she actually cares about finding you the right job whereas most people don't have their client's best interest at heart. I met with her on Tuesday, she called me Wednesday telling me the job I had my eye on would love to meet with me on Thursday, and today after I went in for that interview, I get a call from Andressa 20 minutes later telling me that they loved me and I can start training on Monday! I am ecstatic and I have her to thank for that! Definitely recommend this staffing agency for anyone who is in a rut and needs to find a job. Initially, I was skeptical about working with a "Staffing Agency" because I had some bad terrible experiences in the past. One evening I received a call from Taylor S. He was very professional, so I figured I would come in for an interview. Once I meet Taylor I could immediately tell that he was very determined to find the perfect job for me. He listened to my career ambitions and immediately knew the type of job I wanted. During my first visit to Hollister, Taylor introduced me to Michael R. Michael was very polite and courteous. He also listened very closely. He had a great idea of what types of jobs I would thrive in. Michael immediately sent my resume over to some prestigious universities. Within a week I had four interviews. I do not have a great deal of experience with interviews. Michael and Taylor were very helpful. Both were more than happy to coach me through the interview process. Within two weeks, I landed a great job. I wouldn't have this job if it wasn't for Michael and Taylor. I cannot emphasize how much these two went out of their way to help me find the perfect job. Both Michael and Taylor are extremely passionate and listen very closely. Michael and Taylor truly care about their clients and want them to succeed in their job search. I have never seen such great client service in my life. I haven' gotten one email or position offering from my recruiter since I went there over 2 months ago. I want a job not to sit here unemployed with no one reaching out to me. In the vast and often confusing land of job searching we all have come to know and love at some point in our lives, it's nice to have a guide. A wise, helpful person who sets you up with interviews, provides resources and reassures you that your skills are not only great, but someone will hire you because of them! In a world of annoying employment agencies who only care about the $$ their making by placing you in whatever position there is, the above may sounds like a fairytale. These people really do exist and they work at Hollister Associates. They have clients with very specific characteristics for employment and won't waste your time (or theirs) by sending you to jobs that don't match your skills or your interests. They are extremely efficient in follow-up and communication and they are genuinely interested in finding you the right job, as well as finding the right candidate for their clients needs as well. read more

I signed up with three different temp agencies hoping to end up with a full time position eventually. If you are looking for a day-to-day temp job then maybe hollister would work for you, but don't count on them trying to set you up with anything you are actually interested in. They were very enthusiastic when I went in, and made me feel like they were going to set me up with some great opportunities, but then they were extremely unreliable with contacting me and would only give me daily temp jobs that were very uninteresting and not at all what I was looking for. They are disorganized and don't really care about what you want or need, and after being with them for months I got pretty much nowhere. read more

To be honest I was pretty skeptical about the whole idea of staffing agencies when I first moved to Boston, but Hollister has been absolutely amazing so far in helping me with my job search! They even offered me a temporary position the same day as my initial "interview" with them. Since I started working with Hollister about a month or so ago they have offered me several temp jobs and I am even in the interview process with a couple different companies for temp-to-perm jobs all thanks to this company! I mainly work with Andressa (who is absolutely wonderful), but I have also worked with Lauren and a few others on potential jobs. Everyone in the office seems to truly care about their clients, at least that has been my experience with them. They are super enthusiastic every time they call to update you or just check in, which makes me feel more enthusiastic about this job market right now.. The only reason I'm not giving Hollister 5 stars is because sometimes the recruiters tend to get a little disorganized or take longer than they originally said they would to get back with you about a job. After the initial shock of living expenses in the Boston area wore off, I discovered Hollister where I've had the pleasure of working with Sherry for the past year and a half. We met up to discuss my background and goals, and she began sending me information on potential jobs. In the beginning it was discouraging since the jobs would fill so quickly, but Sherry's persistence and optimism eventually lead me to two temp jobs. After graduating from college I was unsure of to do next and had little professional experience. Both of my temporary positions have been enjoyable and provided me with the experience I needed to find a career path. Seeing all the negative reviews is surprising to me. Has it occurred to anyone that a job they posted could have seemed so good that someone else applied and got that job that "does not exist"? Also, it's a little unreasonable to expect a staffing professional to find you your dream job and toss it into your lap, just saying. If you're looking to get some experience and get your foot in the door, Hollister Staffing is the way to go. Within a week of contacting them, I got an amazing job with a great salary at a fantastic company within commuting distance from my home. Absolutely nothing to complain about! They were highly professional, very responsive, and they even negotiated my salary so I got a higher salary than what was originally offered! No idea why there are so many negative reviews below. I have been using Hollister for several months now, and though they're not perfect, they definitely try to help out. I'm strictly a temp job worker, and they keep me informed and up-to-date with temporary jobs. If they haven't heard from me in a while, they check in: mostly through phone calls, but also sometimes through email. I always get quick feedback, and there's almost always someone who knows my name when I call in with a question or for a check-in. Plus they have a very user-friendly on-line time sheet, which I much appreciate. Go here if you want to work. They just wanted to send me to fill some random $11/hr placement whenever convenient for them, with no intention of getting me the job I deserve. During the phone interview, I clearly told the recruiter what career direction I was going for and then she invited me to their office for a face-to-face. Without knowing any better I went to discuss with her and voiced again about my preferred job nature, the recruiter somehow still decided to send in her manager who asked me if I could start tomorrow. "I can but only for the right job", I said. She then immediately lost interest and left the room. They would rather send you to 1000 cheap temporary placement jobs than getting you an actual full time job. Avoid them at all costs. read more

You literally have to be on top of their staff or the person you've been working with to even get a response. They're so poor at communicating and you'll get nowhere with them. It's like having yet another job trying to manage them while trying to find an actual job. Complete waste of my time. I've heard this similar experience with them from some of my friends and people in my network that have dealt with Hollister Staffing. Just don't waste your time! Seems hit or miss on what agent you get at Hollister. I think Robert is awful. He is judgmental and critical- to such an extent, I wouldn't be surprised if was sued for discrimination one day. ABSOUTELY HORRIBLE. WASTE OF TIME. I found Holliser Staffing had posted jobs on Linkedin, When I got there in person the recruiter, Stephen James who told me he had to "check the job board" and came back and said that there was nothing available. Are they posting jobs that don't exist?! Not only that, he told me based on my experience in the administrative field and my PR background that I have, I wouldn't be making much more money than $14/17 an hour. THAT IS COMPETE B.S. I actually just got hired at a great company (no thanks to this staffing firm, making a FANTASTIC salary with benefits.) so this guy really has no clue what he is talking about. If he wants to get to a good recommendation helping people, I suggest he shouldn't tell them that they aren't worthy of making more than a set amount. Also, he told me it was my responsibility to check in with the staffing firm at the beginning and end of each week to see what jobs are available. That sounds like work in itself (without getting paid) their job should be to find me a job, and let me know what they come across ahead of time. What is the purpose of meeting and interviewing with the recruiter so they can learn your interests/ see your background and than make no effort to match you with something? They all just sound like robots to me that say the same thing "I came across your resume and you seem like a great fit for some of the positions we have available" when in reality there is nothing available and it's a complete waste of time, and it's just aggravation. YES, I AM AWARE THAT I POSTED THIS TWICE...AND FOR GOOD REASON This place is a complete joke. They only care about one thing. Getting their money, with little regard of who works for them or what may happen to them while on assignment. I was harrassed, and abused by a huge client supervisor, when I called and asked to be pulled from the assignment, they only stated that I should "hang in there", everything will get better. Well, quite the contrary, they did everything in their power to keep me at this position, even though, the environment I was working in was a completely hostile one, on the supervisory level, after repeated attempts to call Hollister to be asked to be removed from a hostile assignment, they outright refused to pull me off the assignment. Ultimately, I took matters into my own hands and walked off the job. Going to work every day, paranoid that you will make a mistake and be embarrassed in front of everyone because you made a mistake, or worse, treated and spoken to like you are a 7 year old. There is something to be said about a temp agency that you have never heard of, or there are very few offices. Do yourself a favour, check out the larger temp agencies such as Kelly Services or Adecco. They are larger much more accredited companies of whom I have work with in the past and have had great success. Avoid Hollister at all costs. The staff there are snobbish and speak to you like you are a less of a human being. They will only do what is in their best interest, not even caring about what happens to their employees. That's right up the chain to the management. Ultimately, if you work for Hollister, they don't give a damn about you. You're only scum to them. read more

This place is a ruse!!! They call you in for an interview. They make these promises. Send someone another in to interview you . Call you about a couple of jobs. Then they throw some sort of prove-it test to you via email...They never mention this prove-it test to you and what its about in the interview. Then you basically don't hear from them again. I worked with Joanna. I got an admin position but it is not a place where people stay long term(over a year..) I thought I would return to Hollister to find something new. To my surprise, I was disappointed when I reached out to Joanna and the Hollister team to work with them again and I was completely ignored. No replies to emails and forwarded to voice mailboxes. I work full time with no time to just stop by on the weekdays. I found that rude. Definitely have not had a great experience with them up to this point. Initially, they called me in for an interview to see how they could help me several months ago. Told me about a couple positions that I could be great for and then I never heard back from them about them. The women that I dealt with on the temp side were quite aggressive and impersonal both in person and in their phone conversation and follow up with me. There were about 5 different people who came in to meet me, one of which, treated me like I was part of a prison interrogation regarding my resume. I was called a couple weeks later and at one point told that I had HAD to make a commitment for a certain amount of time for a position, otherwise I shouldn't apply for the position. Seriously, are you kidding me? Just recently, they scheduled me for an interview with a very well respected institution and I was told to follow up the next day with the recruiter so she could help me with interview questions, etc. When I called, she sounded as if I were taking up HER time and as if I were bothering her. She seemed genuinely uninterested in helping me with the interview questions and appeared to not be listening to me as I spoke...distracted in fact, would be the proper term. I felt set up to fail, but did my best anyway, only to be told that the company was not going to hire me because I arrived too early. I have never been turned down because I arrived to early for a job, by the way, but I guess that is neither here nor there. At this point the recruiter (Katie Date is her name by the way) sounded as if she had wiped her hands of me, no explanation, just a very void "Well, Lesson Learned!" Really, Hollister? Really? I feel like the people I dealt with (Caitie Date, Jen and Courtney McPhail) did not really look at the fabric of who I am and how to best match my potential job environment. They simply saw I had the skills, hyped up the company to me, and said ok, go! I will never work with them again. I wish I could give them negative stars. I contacted Hollister several years ago in response to a job posting on Craiglist. Turns out that posting didn't exist. I should have known then to walk away, but I was desperate to find a job and thought that anything would be better than nothing. I was paired with Jennifer who assured me that I would do well as an administrative assistant pulling $50K + with no experience. Jennifer and I then started a seemingly never ending email chain of which she would send me job positions that I was clearly unqualified for (when did I tell her that I could write computer programs??) and respond to postings I saw on the Hollister website that were now suddenly "not available." Jennifer sent me on more interviews than I can count with the same song and dance routine that I am exactly what they are looking for, this is a no brainer, blah blah blah, only to get a phone call from her the day after the interview telling me that I didn't get the job. Several first interviews turned into second interviews with no luck. Jennifer actually had the audacity to tell me that I must be saying something wrong because she was sure I would ge the job. When asked how I should proceed in a second interview, she was no help. I ended up finding my new job on my own without a recruiter's help. Yet Hollister sent me a nice email a couple months later asking me to send business their way. I kindly replied and said that since I found my job on my own I would appreciate it if they would take me off their mailing list. (On another note, Jennifer also "helped" my boyfriend with a position within Hollister. When he met with the president of Hollister, she was pissed that Jennifer would set up the interview because my boyfriend was no where near qualified for the position. I can not even give this firm one star. There are no stars at this firm. It is a clicky unprofessional facade of a business. I tried for over a week to do business with them. It was amazing that in today's economy with so many search firms closing that the employees not only do not return phone or email messages but that they are encouraged to act unprofessionally and are enabled to provide crazy excuses for bad behavior which the senior managers condone. My experience with Hollister Staffing Inc. was excellent. Presenting yourself to a staffing company is the same as an interview with a corporation. While I was in the waiting area I was amazed at the sight of two candidates, one dressed in flip flops and the other one in blouse that was leaving little to the imagination. Hollister is in one of the most conservative buildings in Boston, keep that in mind. They can't and won't call you for a position if you don't appear as if you belong in a conservative Boston company. I was a temp to perm candidate and within the month they sent me on an interview. I became a temp and after a three month appointment, I have been made permanent. Tips: * Do your homework before you show up and assess yourself correctly. * First impression is CRUCIAL! Just like dating: Hide the crazy, NO! You don't need to share your awesome tongue piercing in an interview! Save that when you are hired. * Most people think that is the resume that makes the difference, it's all about attitude. Your resume doesn't look that much different than the other 85 resumes applying for the same job. Your resume is not special. * This is the third staffing agency I have worked with in Boston, in my experience; email is the best way to communicate. They get way too many calls to keep track of them, email gives an obvious date stamp, if people don't respond to my emails I simply forward the old one and ask for an update on the original. Nicely of course. * Regardless of how frustrated you are about your unemployment status, if you can't be energetic, confident and transmit a positive energy for a recruiter; what makes you think they are going to call to go on an interview? They are the worst company ever. They take all your information. Give you this feeling of excitement as if you're about to get all kinds of resources everyday but you really don't get anything. They're just collecting your information without following up. Even if you go to them and call and are consistent, nothing happens. They say they'll call, they'll sound apologetic and then tell you how they want the best for you and then nothing. I don't even know why they're still around. I registered with five staffing agencies in Boston. Alyssa and Mike R found me two potential positions within two days. I'm now working at one of them after only a week and a half. No other staffing agency was even close to as proactive or immediate as the folks at Hollister. They listened, were helpful in many ways, followed up promptly and consistently. I can't really give a bad review because I didn't even have a chance to use them but........... I had an interview scheduled with a recruiter, but the night before had a family emergency. I respectfully emailed the recruiter in the early a.m. hours and apologized, but was still looking forward to meeting and could we reschedule for the next business day. This is the response I received back: I do not accommodate to last minute cancellations. Good luck in your job search. I was shocked! I hope that recruiter doesn't have a family emergency during the night herself. Maybe she will change her outlook. Absolutely rude. read more
