Would've been 5 but the wasps ruined it!…read more Sounds a bit silly doesn't it but the wasps were literally the only bad point about our visit to Beech Hill Hotel! This was the first stop of my birthday weekend planned by my girlfriend and we were here for the afternoon tea. The offerings of the tea itself were great, a nice selection of sandwiches, scones and cakes all with a huge pot of English tea! Now, the views - they are spectacular and you probably can't beat these views to sit and enjoy a drink on the balcony! We had a good 30 minutes outside but then the wasps attacked and we had to go back in to sit on the extremely comfy sofas! I can't speak for the hotel itself in regards to rooms - but for a traditional, enjoyable and good value afternoon tea - Beech Hill is a good bet!

We were greeted upon arrival by a really friendly member of staff who let us leave our bags behind reception while we went exploring, as we had arrived before check in time. When we returned, one the most enthusiastic and welcoming people met us and showed us our room and gave us some great tips on where were the best places to eat near by. A big thumbs up! The rooms position within the hotel was a little odd as we were directly off the main dining area, but there was a stair way that took us away from the noise and gave us privacy thank god! The room was perfectly adequate, the only real problem was the towels could have been bigger; which for me is pretty good as i find problems with everything! I would definitely without question stay here again in a heart beat and the price we paid online was very reasonable!

Our room ("Kirkstone") was very big.Had a King size bed ,full bath, a wardrobe, full vanity,T.V, DVD player (with all kinds of movies in the breakfast room to watch) a bedroom tea service with teas, coffees,and biscuits. There was a large sky light and two other windows.We were upstairs.. In the bathroom there was a wall clothes dryer to help you with the sink laundry you may do . The breakfast every morning was a traditional one. Which includes a fried egg,2 strips of bacon,sausage, mushrooms and tomatoes , fruit yogurt, cereals, juices coffee or tea. This stay was WELL WORTH its price.They made you feel so comfortable.If I go back to the Lake District, we will FOR SURE stay at the High Fold Guest House again!

This had some amazing views of the snow capped hills and mountains of Lake District. The bedroom was cosy and spotless, with tea/coffee making facility, fresh milk available in little fridge at stairs nice touch. Also hairdryer, TV and alarm clock in room . The ensuite had gorgeous L'occitane products for use. Fab!! Shower was lovely after long walk in hills. Also to help settle in is some sherry, water and home made chocolates. Yummy! Loads of walks available from the hotel. The owners are very knowledgeable of same and can give guidance on routes etc. They also can prepare packed lunches on request and even fill up ur flask. We did two walks while there. Enjoyed both very much. Also did tour of Lake, tickets available at hotel. Had dinner one night in the award winning restaurant. All I can say is it was fabulous. And was to a very high standard. The lobster mayo with trout cake starter was unbelievable. And main course local lamb was so tender and tasty. Food coma after all the courses. Breakfast is continental and frys etc.. great start to the day. Fill the bellys. And the best part is to see the local red squirrels and birds eating right outside the window from the bird feeder.

My friend booked out this gorgeous little cottage for her hen weekend. The cottage sleeps 14…read morepeople. The ground floor has the kitchen, living room, dining room and small toilet. The rooms are spacious and decorated in style to the cottage. There are 5 bedrooms spread over the 2 upstairs floors. 3 rooms with double beds and the others are dorm type with 3 and 5 single beds in. Plenty of bath/shower rooms. There is only a limited amount of parking so we had to double park. Outside in the garden there is a BBQ and dining area. There is also a small shed with the hot tub in. The hot tub had a very strong smell of chlorine so if your planning on using it, leave the doors open for a few hours before to circulate the air a bit. The cottage is a 5 minute walk from the train station and local supermarket, it's also very close to the town centre which had every kind of shop you could hope for.

We ordered the Sunday Roast hoping for something home made. The Yorkshire pudding was great. The sides were ok. The roast beef was tough, barely warm and tasted microwaved like they broke out a box of pre-prepped beef. What a disappointment. We should have stayed with the pub side of the house for half the price.

We were given a room on the second floor over looking the side garden and it was perfect. It was so quiet, with a long interior hall that set it back from the other rooms. The bathroom and hallway were a few steps above the main bedroom, make the bedroom feel like a separate space. There was lots of natural light, especially in the bathroom. The bathroom had the added bonus of a heated towel rack and heated floors. It was clean, spacious and modern. I loved the room! I also really enjoyed the downstairs lounge area, where we sat and used the free-wifi, another big bonus. This hotel isn't close to a lot, so it feels like a big escape from outside life. It's relaxing! I thought that the breakfast that was included was really nice. They served great locally made yogurt and a full cooked breakfast. We has the Sunday Roast in the bar, which led to a funny story. On the written hotel survey, I wrote that the "beef was a little fatty". I'm sure that they think I'm a crazy American, because my English husband got a good laugh and informed me that I had been eating lamb, not beef. It was the joke of the trip. The staff was nice, but a little overwhelmed. They had just hired a bunch of new employees from Australia and we were there on their first week, while they were still getting the hang of things. They were all very friendly and trying their best, but we had to wait a long time for things and there were a few mix-ups. Nothing that was a big deal though. This is a wonderful hotel in a very beautiful location. I highly recommend staying here!

There are two bathrooms, one of them has bath/shower. Which should be ok, unless you have some inconsiderate guests who treat it as their own bathroom and sit there for ages. It's not bnb's fault, but something to be aware of! Cooked breakfast has a few items including porridge and fry-up options.

Their breakfast was delicious and filling (as Pauline said, "if you go hungry it's not our fault!") and we were impressed by the homemade bread Both owners took every opportunity to recommend good eating places nearby (all hits) as well as how to track down some sticky toffee pudding Their knowledge of the area came into play when they gave us advice on some good hiking areas and picture spots. They provided laminated maps and carefully went through the driving routes with us. Beautiful country around here but a worthy B&B up to the challenge
