Thankfully, I was able to get the raw footage of my wedding after consistent hounding and threatening to file suit against him ..and (some of somebody else's wedding too) but to this day, I still don't have our video. Prior to all of this, I had also recommended Tony to two other friends for their upcoming wedding after mine - one hired him for video (she got screwed the same way I did) and the other hired him for MC and photobooth (MC service delivered, photobooth pictures were sent to her weeks after consistent hounding by her and ME) Stay away - there's so many better and reputable vendors for hire.

However, it is now 3 months after my wedding and I have finally gained the courage to come out and warn future brides and grooms. I was referred to Tony Chen (owner of Sky Creations) by my wedding studio since I did not know where to start when looking for a DJ/MC and figured they would know best since they have been to so many weddings. Being that I had been procrastinating, it was 4 months before my wedding and most DJ/MC services have been booked. I made my first appointment to meet Tony with my then-fiance but an hour before the scheduled time, he emails me and asks if we can push our appointment back at hour since he was "running behind." I had no problem with that since I'll just grab dinner beforehand then, no big deal. I show up at 7:30pm and he is still with another pair of clients. He then proceeds to shove us into a little office to give us a very brief summary of his services/packages and costs and then had us watch video clips of his performances to waste time while he goes back to meet with the other two clients. He clearly overbooked us. After what felt like a long time, he came back to the room and brought us out to watch the timeline planning process with his other clients since they were to be married in a week. Yeah, WTH. We left after a few minutes. That instance was unprofessional in my opinion but Tony reeks confidence and is a really good speaker so I secretly hoped that that was just a one time incident, since I really did not have many choices especially because I wanted someone who speaks a little Cantonese during the wedding for my family. I met with another company a few days later and it was a disaster, so I had to choose the less of two evils so to speak. I met with Tony again a week later (in which he was tardy AGAIN) and booked him to be my MC, his DJ services for my ceremony and reception, and photo booth. I even half-joked that he better not be late the day of the wedding, but I was truly fearful on the inside. Most of my communication with Tony thereafter were done via email and by uploading my requests onto a website he provided me. He is actually quite good with emails which is great. I had a final appointment with Tony a week before the wedding to go over my timeline and then two days before my appointment, he tried to cancel on me because he has a event that day and his photographer cannot work. Um, WTF! I made this appointment a month in advance to ensure everything is smooth and does he seriously expect my schedule to be free one week before my wedding?! I have other appointments! I went ballistic. I confronted him about it in email and even called him, but he did not pick up. Moments later, he emailed to say he is available again. Oh, and of course he was late to that appointment too. Is it terrible to say that the day of the wedding, I was actually surprised he showed up given his record with tardiness? It's sad but true. So everything was fine, I went down the aisle and all that to my music. But as my husband and I turned around for the recessional music to leave the alter, SILENCE... We waited and the silence continued. Awkward. Finally in what felt like a long time my requested song played... starting RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF A SENTENCE IN THE SONG! Like, "...ble melts like lemon drops. High above..." Mr. DJ, did you fall asleep? Could you not have at least started it in the beginning of a chorus or beginning of the song? THEN during the reception there was a terrible moment Tony made a surprise announcement that the bride and groom were going to sing for each other. I have no idea where that came from! I went along because I wanted to be a good sport but why on Earth would you do that out of nowhere? Little does he know I hate karaoke and I don't even do it when I am out with my friends let alone in front of nearly 180 guests?! A few weeks after the wedding, I was hanging out with my friends and I was told that my photo booth stopped printing out pictures during the reception. I was mortified. I requested for a partial refund from Tony but was denied because he said it was "only down for twenty minutes." Even if that was the case (which I clearly do not know because I did not have a timer), it was during the prime time when people were enjoying it. Not to mention the pictures were printed out in 2x2's rather than as a strip which I had requested. I then realized I never received my glow sticks which were in my contract as well! Tony then just ignored my emails even though he had always been good with them in the past. I just gave up. It is a lost cause and too stressful. That all being said, Tony does get the crowd very involved and is a ball of fire. High energy, a great speaker, good at improvising and making things happen when needed. The choice is up to you, but I cannot whole-heartedly recommend him.

Also, picking out videographers is stressful, more so than picking out the photographer, since watching clips takes time, and then there's the sound, the lighting, the number of cameramen to account for, the time you want it filmed, etc. That being said, I had emailed a whole bunch of videographers, and each one was more expensive than First Dance Cinema. The ones that were less expensive... well the quality definitely showed. So I was lucky that I was able to find Mike especially given that our wedding was only a month away at that point. Mike was very flexible in working with us in regards to the pricing, working within our budget. He was also flexible in allowing us to work at our slow pace (we were supposed to pick the songs before the wedding, but didn't end up doing so until like a month after). He also works extremely hard; he was there for over 12 hrs on our actual day! Though it was just Mike on the actual day, the videos turned out amazing, as if we had more than one camera man! I also liked that he was punctual, friendly, and just great to work with. An added bonus, for the raw footage, he will send them to you for free as long as you supply him with a flash drive! My view is interesting due to the fact that I've been DJing since I was 13 and I've done many bars, clubs and parties...so I got a good idea of what moves the crowd. The funny thing is that I've ALWAYS refused to do weddings. I know they're fun and they pay a LOT of money but it's too "high maintenance" for me to deal with. I don't like taking requests which is NOT the procedure for virtually every wedding. You gotta play what they want... You wanna hear that song from "Grease"? OK You wanna hear "Gangsta's Paradise"...here? At a wedding? OK You wanna hear Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight"? OK You wanna hear "Gittin Jiggy With It?"...I guess you miss 1997, but OK You wanna hear ANY Lil Kim song? WTF type of wedding is this? That's not me at all... Dynamic Sound does weddings well and they play music that will keep your ass moving. You ever go to a wedding and it's really LIVE and just on fire and then some song comes on and 86% of the dance floor goes to a table or bar? Yeah...Dynamic is the opposite of that experience. I would love to use them but I'm already married man! That's cool because I still have a lot of single friends and I may get into the habit of RSVPing the invite with a post it included asking simply "who's spinning the beats?" From the initial planning meetings with Steven, we knew we were in good hands. He was extremely organized and attentive to detail as we walked through the full reception timeline together, minute by minute. He was a good listener, understanding the type of event we wanted, which allowed him to make very helpful suggestions for the programming and timing. Steven was very generous with his time in these planning meetings, and the materials he prepped and shared (timelines, song lists, lists of key persons to recognize, etc.) meant that we knew in advance that everything would go smoothly on the big day. We also really appreciated that May, our DJ, and Sisi, our English/Mandarin MC, took the time to meet with us in advance of the wedding as well so that we were on the same page with everything from musical styles to how to pronounce the wedding party's names exactly right in both languages. My husband and I also really appreciated how well the Red Wedding team worked with our main contact at the reception venue and with our month-of wedding coordinator, taking the time to meet with them in advance to hash out logistics and set out clear roles & responsibilities. All of this planning meant that the reception itself was nothing short of spectacular! The grand entrance, the first dance, the mother-son dances, the anniversary game, the hora, the dance sets - everything was flawless! Seriously, I have been dreaming about my first dance with my spouse at my wedding since I was a little kid and - just like the title of our song - it was Perfect. Towards the end of the night things escalated when my wife made a final request and I attempted to intervene to help her get one of her favorite songs played... which should not be so difficult on her wedding night?? The result was I ended up in a screaming match with the MC as he attempted to refuse the song. This song had no vulgarities or anything else about it that could be seen as offensive. The level of disrespect was unbelievable. Shortly after the altercation, the party came to an abrupt end and everybody filed out. If you are having an event that is important to you, stay clear of this business.
