Holmdel park is more than your average park. It also has a working historical farm (Longstreet farm, I believe) which is free. My son (age 3) loves to go in to see the farm animals. There is even a peacock who strolls around! Kids can try their hand at milking a cow during a demonstration too. The park itself is beautiful and spacious. There are plenty of play structures and walking trails. During winter snow, you can go sledding there as well. read more

This park has everything. There is a gorgeous lake, arboretum, 5k running trail with fit trail stations, 2 playgrounds, tennis, multiple picnic areas and a skiing hill. Can get crowded on Saturday afternoons in the summer, but the park is big enough to accommodate everyone. read more

Holmdel Park is one of my all-time favorite parks. There is something here for everyone! During winter people go sledding down the huge hill. There is a gated area with trees and benches. Cross a bridge (past the beautiful bench-lined lake) and you'll find an easy trail to follow. Perfect for families and people who prefer a more leisurely walk. The Longstreet Farm is across from the lake. It is full of history and is a functioning farm: animals, farm-hands and even the friendly farm-cats! If you travel down a short road, you'll reach the more foresty area, with trails to follow. These trails involve more hiking and hills. Don't forget to look for the geocaches here! read more

The Monmouth County Parks are a wonder. They are all well maintained and you can find something worthwhile to do any time of year. I personally love the fall and winter (when the fireplace in the visitor's center is lit). Less people. You can really just walk around and relax. There's the main path near Longstreet Farm which brings you to the lake, and then there are more intense trails for hiking that bring you to a playground if you have children. There are two on the premises. This is a place you can come for a 20 minute walk on your lunch break or spend the day with picnicking, hiking, and visiting the farm. If you have the chance to walk there before 3 PM, do it. That's when it starts to fill up with families and also track teams from the local high schools. read more

By far one of my most favorite places to be.... Besides an island somewhere! This park is gorgeous and meticulously well kept. I visit here often to run or even just to walk the grounds on a nice day. The famous "Bowl" will give you the best workout of your life. This park to me is one of the biggest, cleanest, beautiful parks that I've ever been to. It is so clean and so beautiful that wherever you go, you can see that for the fact yourself. The grass are well maintained and cut to their beauty. There are everything a park generally has except everything is just a step up compared to others. My husband and I took our 21 month old daughter here this past weekend for the first time. We enjoyed our walk through the farm and seeing all the old style carriages from back in the 1800s. The old home that is now open to the public as a museum belonged to the originial owners of the farm. It was really cool to walk through this home and see so many old things I remember watching on the show "Little House on the Praire". They had some farm animals for the kids to see. We were even able to pet this beautiful friendly cow. I would definitely recommend this place to friends and will be back again. read more

I've been going to this park for years, primarily to go run. The 5k cross-country trail is very challenging, and is also the site for NJ and USATF x-country races. It has a mix of trails, pavement, and a short patches of rocky paths. I can typically run a flat 5k in about 32 minutes. I run this trail closer to 37-40 minutes. read more

Awesome park, been here a couple times. Perfect place to go to on a sunny cool day. The park has great scenic routes and even has hiking trails if you're up for a nature walk. And if you're not up for walking a whole bunch, there's even a farm to explore and watch all the animals. Overall huge park and I have yet to explore the rest of the area. read more

I grew up by this park and I have always loved it. There are decent hiking trails and running paths. The lake and cherry trees are beautiful. In the winter, there is a huge hill for sledding. There is the farm, where the kids can learn about farm life, see the animals, and even milk the cows. The playgrounds are great. There are 2 on the first hill (one for smaller children and one for the older kids). For much older kids (10+), there is a fun playground on the upper hill by the tennis courts with a cool climbing dome and swinging saucer. There are places to barbecue and fields to play in or fly kites. You could easily find things to do all day here. read more

I LOVE it there. Gorgeous park, especially in the spring with loads of cherry blossoms lining the walking trail by the pond...and in the fall with a stunning array of trees in reds, yellows, and oranges. Great for local birdwatching Perfect park for a lone walker/photographer....I always feel very safe, no matter how empty the park seems. Park rangers are friendly and watchful. My only complaint would be is that sometimes there are mobs of runners...and most of the time they look at you as if you should step aside for them. One guy even banged into me as he and his friend passed me...there was plenty of room for him. A ranger in a pick-up saw it and told him don't ever do that again. I will never move aside for them. But that's not the park's fault. Still...one of my favorite places read more

I just adore this park. If you are a stroller, hiker, or a running fiend like me, then I guarantee that you will love this park. There are multiple paths to take in the park. If you like to take it slow then there is the pond to fish, an Arboretum to walk through, or the Longstreet farm that is in the park. There is a bunch of farm animals and peacocks walking around. Also, there are three barn cats that live near the farm. However, if you like to run, there is a cross-country path that is quite long which takes you to the most frequent areas of the park. There are plenty of playgrounds, bbq areas and further north of the park there are tennis courts. Last, but not least, there are two entrances into the deeper parts of the park to go hiking. The first entrance is before the park and the second entrance is in the cross country trail, where you will see a bridge going into a forest. Overall, I love spending time here to recollected my thought and enjoy the scenario of what this park has to offer. read more

This beautiful and well maintained Monmouth County Park has one of the best and most challenging 5k cross country trails in the state. I'm out on it all year long with my dogs walking and jogging with me. There are a number of hilly portions of the trail where you really have to kick it including the cardiac hill section of the bowl. The trail winds through both open and woodland areas and intersects other trails where you can traverse from bottom of park to top and bottom again. In the fall you will find many high school and college teams practicing and running in county, state and regional meets which are held on weekends. The upper level of the park has tennis courts and playgrounds. There are playgrounds, a paved walking trail, an arboretum, a stocked fishing pond and a working historically maintained farm at the lower part of the park with designated and reservable picnic areas for small and larger groups. Come and enjoy this gem and please keep it clean. Trail areas are safe and frequently patrolled by park rangers. read more

Unfortunately my 3 1/2 year old son was not able to play with his toy remote control car, the park ranger said that they had someone complain that we were a safety liability and we had to stop immediately. What a testament to what has become of our society, we are so glad the park is a safer place for everyone now that our little boy is no longer terrorizing it with his toy car. read more

I come here almost daily with my dog. It's great for him to have some room for me to let the leash out a little longer. There are always trees or benches to sit under/on when you need a break. There are two levels of parking. Down lower is near a playground and pond. There are also sheep, cows, a cat, and peacocks (for looking, not petting except maybe the cat). I've seen people dressed in historic style clothing so I believe there is some kind of interactive homestead type thing there. Up on the second level there is another playground, tennis courts etc. The walking trails are seemingly endless in wide open areas and more rugged through the forrest. I have not been through all of them yet. Lots of runners, families, walkers, and dogs (leashed). read more
