Beautiful, large park in Monroe TWP. Fishing allowed in the fresh water lake. Picnic areas include tables, chairs, and grills. Children's playsets are well maintained. Restrooms are maintained. There is bocce ball, basketball, tennis and other courts available. Huge dog park. Loads of parking. I recommend this public park highly. read more

I spent many years going to Thompson Park and still visit when up in New Jersey to visit family. Now that I have a dog, we visit the dog park which has plenty of room for the pup to run around and socialize with other dogs. There is ample parking, picnic areas and trails to walk or run. My favorite has always been looking at the animals and feeding the deer. This is definitely a family friendly park that I wish I still lived close to! read more

Lions, tigers, and bears, oh my! Well maybe not those animals but this developed park has an animal haven housing a variety of farm and exotic animals on display with fenced-in areas. The time I went, I saw a rabbit, pot bellied pig, goats, deers, an emu, two peacocks (one was the elusive and exotic white peacock), wild turkeys, ducks, and silkie chickens. This is my favorite Middlesex park of all time! This 675 acre features Manalapan Lake, a 30 acre lake where you can canoe, kayak, fish (State Division of Fish and Wildlife periodically stock the lake with fish), or have fun with electric motor boats (you need to provide your own). The trails are light and perfect for you and your pets. There are even Dog parks. Your dogs can run around in two different sections - one for large dogs and one for smaller dogs. There are 3 distinct playgrounds for the little children near the Manalapan Lake to enjoy. For the older kids and adults, they have 4 tennis courts, 4 basketball courts, 2 handball courts and baseball fields, plenty of picnic areas with several picnic groves. read more

Nice park . First timer. Lots and lots of space for kids to play around . Has a small lake where people were fishing. Had volleyball courts , basketball courts, tennis courts , soccer practice courts .. a full fledged Disc golf course , many many barbeque stations , lots of parking , restrooms, dog park, , kids play area etc etc etc .. it's has everything . Also haas a nice trail around the park to walk. It also has a small zoo for kids . They loved it . Lots of restaurants nearby . No money for parking. Overall a good / relaxing time ! What is going on there? Animals are all gone, which I must say Im happy about, they looked very lonely. Pond that had many ducks is filthy and fountain isn't working. It's a real mess, The nicest section of the park has deteriorated immensely. read more

Vast green meadows, large stocked fishing lake, tennis,basketball,hand ball courts, frisbee golf course, mini zoo,kiddie playgrounds,baseball dimond, picnic facilities with grills, dog parks separated by weight and size, bocce ball courts,soccer fields,walking/nature trails, clean and meticulously maintained restrooms...... What else do you need in a park and better yet a park in your neighborhood? A food concession...not just the ice cream van making his rounds on a sunny day but a permanent food concession or even a food truck gala on weekends. Got to remember that Shake Shack started in a unused concession stand in a park smaller than Thompson. But other than that Thompson Park is practically perfect for the our community. read more

I have been to Thompson Park many times prior to this review. It is a spacious park in Jamesburg and it is well maintained. The green space is ample and the parking and paths are easy as well as plentiful. There is a little zoo right as you enter into the park, where you can see a variety of animals from birds to pigs to deer. They are lively and seem to be well taken care of. This is a great place to spend a few hours, by yourself, with your family, or with a pet. read more

My kids LOVE this park because of the animals here. There is a nice fenced in area with deer, pigs, chickens, goats and emu. Bring your own snacks for the animals. We usually bring a bag of carrots. In the fall you can just pick up the acorns, the deer love them. I do wish there were more staff here to monitor visitors though because people are pretty awful. I've watched people throw complete crap at the animals (including sticks, rocks and junk food). There are several playgrounds here but we always stick to the one closest to the animals. They recently replaced the mulch with soft rubber mats which is awesome. There are picnic areas with barbecues, a volleyball court, a lake to fish, basketball courts, trails and a sledding hill in the winter. There is something for everyone here. read more

Came here to see the Fourth of July fire works they have it was very nice the show lasted about 20 minutes it's free to watch basically it's a first come first serve you find a spot in the park and sit down they had food trucks and vendors along with a DJ playing music the family has a great time and enjoyed the festivities read more

It's a big park, it's FREE, and interesting. kid friendly alot of parking they even have a public zoo. they had kids feeding the animals which i don't think matters, but they should know not feed the birds bread.. They also have trails alot of trails so make sure to wear your tennis shoes. My parents got married at Thompson Park, so I guess you could say that we go way back. Every time I go home, though, I'm reminded of just how amazing this park is. They've got everything you could want... hiking/walking trails, enclosed dog runs, horse showgrounds, and three playgrounds. Wait, I'm not done. There are tennis fields (lighted), handball courts, softball/baseball fields, and picnic groves with charcoal grills. There's a regular round dirt track (but isn't it more fun to walk or run the paths?) There's a big hill perfect for sledding during the winter. During the summer, you can walk or run up the hill to really work your butt. There's a natural spring. Bring empty bottles and you can fill them up for free with delicious cold spring water. Free. Seriously. Then there's the Manalapan Lake. You can fish, during the winter you can ice skate for free, you can launch a little canoe. Back in my mother's day, you could even swim, but those days are over. There's an animal haven (a mini zoo) with deer, emu, goats, hens, turkeys and pheasants where my grandmother used to bring me to see the goats. And, of course, there's a gazebo where you (or your parents) can get married. On the 4th of July they have a nice firework display, and they sometimes have other fairs, events and free concerts during the year. The park is so big that it really never feels crowded. In fact, this park is 675 acres. For comparison, central Park in NYC (used by a lot more people) is 843 acres. Even on the weekends, when the park is used for munchkin league soccer and local cross-country meets, you can find some corner of the park that you can practically have to yourself (and maybe a few dozen Canadian geese). My only complaint is that they're building a high school in a corner of the park. I believe parks are meant to be preserved as open, public spaces. And even though they've found other land to "replace" the lost land, it's not adjacent, so it's not really the same. So, pack a picnic, bring your empty gallon bottles, maybe a few carrots if you're a rule-breaker (feeding the animals is officially prohibited), your sports equipment, your sled, your dogs, your kids, anyone who likes free outdoor recreation. This park truly has something for everyone. read more

This is the largest public park in Middlesex county. It starts at downtown Jamesburg from the north and extends South into Monroe towards Monroe high school. The park has a large lake, Manalapan lake, on the Jamesburg side where people usually go to fish. In the past I used to take my kids to one of their many nice playgrounds which has good shade from the sun. There's also the Thompson park zoo where there are llamas, deer, rabbits, chickens, goats, pig, and peacock on display by one of the playgrounds. During the Summer many people come to enjoy the annual Independence day fireworks and festival. Throughout the year locals come to the park to walk on one of their many trails, run, play tennis, basketball, barbeque, or just lounge around. There's even a golf course. The only negative is this park could be better maintained by the county (ie grass, trails, playgrounds, clean up the perimeter of the lake.) It would be cool if they developed the zoo more. read more

Nestled In the middle of jamesburg this park is quite large with plenty of space to have parties or even walk,jog or ride your bike. They have one large lake and 2 smaller playgrounds. They also have a fenced in little wanna be petting zoo..chickens,deer,goats etc. It gets crowded in summer and parking can be slim but they do allow parking on grass. They picnic tables and standing bbq's. The park is open from dawn to dusk and they do enforce that. In winter time they allow sleigh riding down their humongous hill but gets crowded with kids and parents quickly. On the other side of park are soccer fields and plenty of space to fly a kite. Definitely worth checking out. Not a huge fan of this park since to me it's gotten pretty dilapidated, but something to do with the kids on a weekend. read more

I was quite disappointed with this park! The grassland part is very pretty, and it does seem to have a nice playground for children! However, there is really nowhere in my opinion for people to really walk in the park, which is something that all parks have! The only part where I could find for me to walk was on the street where people were driving to get to the other parts of the park! It was also extremely crowded, with a lot of people being close to each other, and no one was social distancing! Very disappointing! read more

Mother nature finally cooperated and gave us a nice night for a walk. Thompson park is a gem of Monroe Township, almost 700 acres of beautiful woodland, covered groves with BBQ grills, clean restrooms, beautiful lake, small zoo, sand volleyball court, playground, etc etc. Great place for family fun, quiet reading or sports activities. The zoo animals are tame and used to people, if you want to feed the deer they will take snacks from your hand, there is a fence to separate you from them so the kiddies can feel safe. read more

I regularly go to this dog park. There are usually regulars there hanging about during the day. Most of the dogs there are very friendly and Ive yet to have a bad experience there. Overall this is one of the best dog parks nearby to me. Pros: - Seperate areas for large and small dogs - Each enclosure has large wooded AND sunny grassy areas - Multiple benches - Water fountains outside enclosures for me and my humans - Poop bags on site - Easy access from main road - Within a big park with trails and other activities Cons: - Can get muddy in spots - Grass gets overgrown quickly - Bathroom nearby but not on site - Wastebags not stocked daily - NO agility equipment read more

700 or 800 manicured maintained acres with beautiful tree specimens, trails, a lake, and a dog park. Not to mention the softball fields--that's why I go here. They're really nice and always takes and ready to be played on. I live about 45 minutes from here but if I lived closer I'd go here all the time. Since we drink beer at 9am on Sunday mornings, it's nice to have a bathroom on hand and not one of those shitty Johnny on the spots where the local kids trash them and steal all the tp. This park supplies just about everything you and your family want and deserve, 12 months out of the year. I love the ever changing appeal from season to season. Fairly large open fields for tossing frisbees or any type of ball with a group or the kids, just keep an eye out for the geese pooh. A baseball field along with several paved tennis and hoops courts to be like Mike. A steep hill which is marvelously pitched for sleigh riding or down hill mtn. bike plunging. In fact most of the park meanders from hill to hill. Multiple trails surrounding park to get your nature feel on. A sizeable like for fishing and I believe you can BYOB (bring your own boat) or beer, lol. Tons of picnic tables and grilling areas all over the woodland area with plenty of shade to avoid the sun. It does get ridiculously packed in the summer so plan your arrival either early or late in the day for choice locations, but honestly you will always find a spot to picnic due to its size of almost 700 acres. Now the real reason to visit this park is the live wild animal zoo. A diverse collection of NJ indigenous animals ranging from: nicely racked white tail deer, pigs of different breeds, sheep, goats, turkeys, ducks, swans, rabbits, peacocks running outside the fenced in area and a variety of ever changing unique creatures periodically throughout the year. It's not a petting zoo, but you may feed them behind the fence. My kids love the deer especially in the summer when their antlers are in velvet. Dog owners will love that they have a place for Fido, but leash em up and go for a hike. Don't forget to bring a poppy bag. But if you need to powder your nose you'll be happy that real bathrooms with running water are available and regularly maintained. Big enough to spend the day, but small enough not to get lost. True back to nature fun for the entire family right here in Jamesburgh. What's really cool is that it's free, as it should be. read more

decent siZed park that has tons of trails in the woods for running/hiking, a paved loop road and some other paved roads which make a good cycling or running route, a lake where some people fish, a little petting zoo, soccer fields where one can hit golf balls also, bocce courts, plenty of picnic and barbeque areas.. when you are on the trails deep in the woods here it is hard to believe NYC is really just like an hour away. This park is quite hilly by NJ standards so lots of good hill workout options fpr your run or bike ride.. I drove 30 minutes to get here from the highly congested area where I currently live since I wanted to go for a long Sunday morning run in a peaceful environment and It was worth it, I kinda enjoyed the drive down too, the area is rather rural, there are numerous cornfields near the town which this park is in.. read more

I was almost a teenager before I realized this park actually had a NAME. We always called it "Jamesburg Park." LOL Man, we loved this place growing up. Back then, it had an open beach, and we went there all the time to swim and have cookouts. I would love to revisit as an adult and see what it looks like now.
