Very disappointed with the last year's they were around and withdrew my child from the school. Now it doesn't even exist and it is no wonder. The school went down hill and failed their students. read more

I sent my daughter to Holy Name for her Freshman year. We decided to not send her to our local high school. I thought that Holy Name would give her (and us) a good experience but we did not get what we paid for. In the beginning of the year we were delighted to be told (in a formal new-parents meeting in the auditorium) that the adminsitration would not let us down, that "they would let us know of problems before our child let us know". It seemed so reassuring but as the year went on and problems arose with our daughter's studies, they negated to tell us anything. It wasn't until a report card where we had to ask for help. Long story short: I had to go back to them numerous times to ask that something done about the math class that was not right for my daughter. They committed to making changes but in the end let me down and my daughter fail. For their unresponsivness to my needs, and failing to meet their commitment to us as parents, I FAIL THEM. They got my money for the year, and my daughter didn't get the education I paid for. We are not sending our daughter back. After we told the school that we were pulling out our daughter, I was so surprised that we never got a call back from the adminstration, asking what happened... nothing! I was so frustrated at this apparent neglect on their part so I called the headmaster to ask "why didn't you want to know why we were unhappy?". He listened to me and simply thanked me for the feedback... no "I'm sorry for taking your money and not delivering", no I did not get that reponse. Beware. If you are looking for a school to deliver a top-notch education with structured discipline and a grounded Catholic background look elsewhere. read more

I am writing to let you know how very pleased I am with the education my daughter is receiving at Holy Name Catholic Junior Senior High School, Granite Street, Worcester, MA This is her third year here. My daughter has had great success with extracurricular activities, academic, athletic and the music program. In particular, (if there is an issue with anything - I get an email and a phone call). Holy Name is a jewel education opportunity in the city of Worcester. The administration is focused upon the essential educational needs of today's student and understands what it takes to support that direction. The faculty is dedicated to the success of each student. It is commonplace to find an educator at HN who has truly made teaching a vocation. The school supports fine academic programs, substantial artistic and athletic opportunities and most importantly, a vital hands-on community service element is everpresent. My wife and I sent 3 kids to HN, our two daughters took every advantage and flourished there. Our son attended one year and then decided to return to our local public school, this was a direct result of his strong local ties and no reflection upon the school. Full disclosure, I have been teaching at Holy Name for 10 years. But make no mistake, If I wasn't convinced that the opportunities here are exceptional, I would simply refrain from this review. Over the past 10 years I have seen outstanding focus and continuous development in AP courses, STEM based curriculum, and a serious commitment to developing academic skill at ALL LEVELS. The sports program speaks for itself. Just pick up the Worcester Telegram and read about our well rounded student athletes, high level competition and numerous championships. Every student who wants to be a student athlete has that opportunity here. Not every school can say that. And the ARTS .. Year round Theater, Band , Chorus, Fine Arts, Dance, a Summer Theater program right on campus! While some area schools are cutting back on the essential extra-curriculars we have expanded the opportunities over the recent past. Socially, there is a place for every student here. Of course, like everywhere else, there are circles of friendships here, but one of the most wonderful things about HN is that due to the welcoming communitiy feel of the school all of these groups interact with friendliness and respect. Our anti-bullying program SMASH has toured area elementary schools and our Campus Ministry provides opportunities to lead and promote respect and service to one another through hands-on experiences. Holy Name really does make a commitment to each family to provide opportunities to every student so that each student can develop his/her gifts and share them in service to others.
