My attitude is that church should support and encourage worship, not turn it into a chore. We shopped a few churches near our home and decided on Christ The Rock. It is a huge church, but that presents so many opportunities to find meaningful connections. Services are at 8:45 and 10:45 on Sunday. Sunday school for pre-K - 5 is at the same time as services, which is a blessing to my wife and me--no distractions. Music is contemporary Christian rock (check out 91.9 FM for a sampling). There are 2-4 songs to start most services, then announcements and a 30-45 minute message. While the message has a strong, Biblical grounding, it is readily applicable to your day-to-day. Let's face it, we can all read the Bible, church is for worship and learning. I am amazed at how well the sermon message applies to my daily life. I tell people that it is God's way of speaking into my life--just in time and just enough. In fact, messages are typically so applicable that it feels like they have been listening to my dinner conversations! Did I mention that my girls can't wait to go to Sunday school? They have really figured out how to make Sunday school fun and engaging. Volunteers are background checked and trained. Security is well thought out but almost seems unnecessary. Great bones and I love their great sound system and neutral decor with changeable LED light accents (currently purple!) They have an actual coffee and 'treat' time to mingle afterwards. You can introduce yourself to the pastor (John Nehs, he's super down to earth!) and others. They greet you as you walk in the door, and seat you if desired. Also, they have an actual organ that is lovely! They have standing monthly schedule for communion (first Sunday of month, where the organ is played!) and prayer for healing (3rd Sunday.) They may have more standing activities. They have an active youth program that meets Wednesday nights, and goes on annual mission trips. There is a kids ministry, and a bunch of babies. People are nice and give you space unless you're also wanting to chat. So chat someone up!

There are 3 campuses. The big one is in Green Bay with satellite campuses in Menasha and Steven's Point. I do like having a Pastor in front of me speaking, but you don't notice the screen after awhile AND I am not going there JUST for the Pastor. I am going to worship with my family and friends who are like family. No Church is going to be perfect. We are all sinners and we all have our flaws. You have to take Mark Gungor with a grain of salt. I, for one like his straight up no BS nature. I find him real and authentic and not putting on a face for more $$$. He always refers back to the Bible and always encourages us too. Yes, he's funny and brass but he's real. He also makes fun of himself and tells a lot of relatable stories of his own life's lessons relating to what we're learning about this week. The children's program is improving as it has needed to for many years. There are more youth programs available too. If you want real people who worship God and put Him first in their lives, this is the Church for you :)

Although, I have been going here since I moved here in August and still feel a bit disconnected - even though I am now a member and have done some of the activities. I think you have to make the effort but the great thing you can come and check out the church without being bombarded! I also love their cafe which is open on other days - not just Sunday! If you're looking for a Holy Spirit led church, this church is worth checking out. You can sample podcasts of preaching from the website if interested: http://www.appletonalliance.org/ From the home page you can also "meet" and hear the Senior Pastor's testimony. Dress is mixed, from very casual to more formal. You won't find a church organ here. While I can appreciate the history and tradition of organ music, there's also a reason organ music is played in haunted houses-- it can be too dominant and creepy. Worship is upbeat and people sing together. Scripture and song lyrics are presented on a very large screen at the front and the setting is welcoming and comfortable.
