This independent alternative clothing shop is located just inside the doors of Grand Central on Renshaw street. They carry all kinds of gothic, punk, and cute colourful T-shirts and other clothing, for guys and girls alike. They are a very large shop for Grand Central and they occupy two sprawling rooms. You'll also find interesting and unique jewellery, tights, belts, wallets, and handbags. They also have some great £1 bargain bins to pick through, and when I popped in they had a lot of cool T-shirts on clearance for £5. Its the nature of their departments that makes them so popular with people of all ages. I can't think of anything they don't sell, especially when it comes to domestic requirements. Their crockery ranges from low to high standards similarly with their electronic appliances so whatever you are seeking, there should be an item that wins you over 9 out of 10 times. Not to mention, the same goes with shoes; the place is packed with them! And clothes too, the list is endless. These bargains usually end up as my birthday or christmas presents. Like the much lamented Lewis' which has closed down on Renshaw Street, TJ's is a landmark store within the city. It is a much more modest department store than Lewis' was and can be seen as more of a front runner to the now universal pound shops. The key to TJ's is the bargains. It covers all sorts of quality products and ranges - although nothing exclusive or top of the range - and at the cheapest possible prices.

Today though there is a definte lack of toy shops. Even in the big department stores there seems to be a smaller range of toys, with small shop space given over to electronic games. Toys R Us as we all know is a toy megastore, something which had me torn between the thought of how great it would have been as a kid to have such a massive aladdins cave to search through and the slightly sad idea of bringing the kids to basically Tesco Toys Megastore. I soon forgot such rubbish when I was confronted by tons of toys including Star Wars figures and there I was 5 years old again and genuinely excited when I saw reissue Empire Strikes Back and Return of The Jedi figures by the original Kenner manufacturer! This branch of Home Bargain is a good large sized store with lots to offer…read more They have a massive range of items on offer such as toiletries, cosmetics, fancy dress, toys, cleaning products, baby items, washing powder, medicines, furniture, pet food, bathroom items, picture frames, vases, bed linen, throws, cushions, kitchenware, food, snacks, confectionery, soft drinks and alcoholic drinks. The store is clean, tidy and well maintained. The staff work hard to ensure the shelves are kept well stocked and tidy. The store is often busy but the staff open new tills as needed and serve customers quickly. My favourite items here are the Hello Kitty fleece blankets and Live Colour hair dye for £3.99.

Everything here is so cheap you end up scraping the price tags with your nail to see if some joker has tippexed over the pound signs. Nowhere else in the city can you buy a full range of fatty snacks and still get change from a quid. These aren't fake brands either. No 'Snikkers' or 'Cwavurs' or 'Ghalaxy Bars' here. No my friend, it's all the real deal. Now fill your pockets and scarper before they realise they've priced everything wrong. The only things that bring more joy than the low prices are of course the conveyor belts leading to the till. Each one is about the length of a 15cm ruler snapped in half. The woman on the till can touch the far end of it with her elbow. Nevertheless, you will still place your box of detergent on the belt and together you will both watch it trundle the few inches into her open hand. It's one of life's small pleasures.

Cheap and cheerful is the motto - not officially but I'm guessing it's what it would be - as 'top brands at bargain prices' is the name of the game. I can't say that I have been to any HB much bigger than this store but HB's are not somewhere to do your weekly shop but more a place to get daily essentials.

It is a store filled with top brands at bottom prices and the variety of basic home essentials, canned and quick snacks they sell makes it an ideal source where you can buy general everyday items. Sometimes you can get away without having to go to the bigger stores as you can often find cheaper prices and get better value for money here. After all, it is really home and bargain! The service at each till is often busy but efficient and staff will put all your items into a carrier bag, so you don't have to. You can always trust this place and you can't really go wrong.

They also have discount evenings if you are registered with them - where you get 20% off everything being a cardholder. There is also a cafe - which serves a good selection of meals and snacks. The food is nice but a bit pricey. The cafe itself is nice and kept clean.
