None of the other facilities provided both types of care + the loving, family atmosphere of Ashley Glen. One of the top reasons for choosing AG was their long time employees - - many of the staff have been there for 20+ years, which was unheard of in any of the other facilities. My Mom has thrived at AG and I can attest to the fact that the residents are treated like family. The facility is like a comfy home - clean, well decorated, nice touches of home, good meals, etc. The activities for both sides (assisted living and memory care) are very good. The outdoor areas are beautiful and well-maintained (my Mom loves spending time outdoors and enjoys watching the birds, flowers, trees, etc.) I visit my Mom most every day so I get to see what is going on very regularly. Any questions or concerns are addressed quickly and efficiently. I would highly recommend checking out Ashley Glen when you have a loved one who needs assisted living or memory care, it is such a wonderful facility! Forgive my long review, but my dad is worth it; no doubt about it…read more Dad was a resident of Westhill Newnan Memory Care for 2 years and 7 months. My thought about Westhill ebbs and flows depending on the staff. Had it not been for Shannon, the executive director at the time (and unfortunately, there have been three or four since Shannon), we would have never gotten Dad in the doors. He was resistant to any memory care help whatsoever, yet she was fantastic guiding us through the process and visiting him. A handful of caretakers over the 2 plus years comes to mind that were compassionate, thoughtful, practical and treated Dad as they would want their parent treated: Shannon, Cass, Ruby, Anita, Vandana, Megan, and lastly Jennifer; also, Corinne who was with housekeeping and Jennifer who was a private sitter. They treated Dad with dignity and respect. Just because you have lost your memory and your faculties does not negate the fact that you should be treated with dignity and respect. I blame the administration, specifically Kayla, Trent, and Tanya for the lack of training and standard of care; they tell you so much that you want to hear, yet things do not seem to change. Allow me to explain. Dad passed away a month ago at Westhill. Thankfully, we employed Sacred Journey, specifically Polly and Kay, to care for Dad. They, along with Jennifer, a Westhill med tech, were a Godsend and a bright spot in a dark time, always texting updates and being there with a kind whisper for Dad or a compassionate and competent touch. I told Kay that she should teach the Westhill staff how to give a bath and change a bed and just talk to residents with dignity. Polly and Kay were invaluable and helped us tremendously for the last four months of Dad's life. So very thankful for them and we wish we had engaged their help sooner. I mentioned the ebbing and flowing of the experience. In the beginning and even towards the end, we kept reminding ourselves that: Dad was around people; he was fed; he was safe; he was taking his meds. Let me tell you of his last 5 weeks. He fell while my brother and his wife were there for dinner in Market Street. It was not until my sister-in-law yelled for help that a CNA, who was at the other end of Market Street and saw him fall, came to help. The CNA's did not know that dad was under hospice care, asking my brother and my siter-in-law whom to call. Should have been in the care plan. In the last month or two, Dad was not up early enough for breakfast. We asked for his food to be held for him. On our visits, we would ask if he had breakfast, often to be told that he did not ask for it. He's in memory care; he's not going to ask for it, especially in the last few weeks of his life when he was not hungry at all. It's said that good leadership rights the ship. Here are some examples from our last few weeks of how, not only were Kayla, Trent, and Tanya not clued in to Dad's status and condition, they did not offer any support to the family. * A little over a week before Dad passed, when we asked how often on non-hospice days did the staff check in on Dad and did they still get him up and dressed and fed (or at least offered his meals or his nutrition drinks), we were told that perhaps it was time for us to consider a sitter. We would visit on non-hospice days to find him dirty and in the bed so it was a valid question. * While Dad was transitioning, Tanya asked to have him weighed. It was time for the monthly weight; she needed to check the box that he had been weighed. * We were scheduled to meet on Tuesday for our quarterly care-plan meeting (Dad died on Wednesday). Kayla stopped my sister and asked if our meeting was still on and had we discussed getting a private sitter. She clearly was unaware of Dad's condition. We told her there was no need for the meeting and we would prefer to spend the time with Dad. * The morning Dad died, Tanya did pass by my brother, tap him on the shoulder, said "sorry for your loss," and kept on walking- not the compassion you would expect from the Assistant Director of Resident Services (over the memory care unit). That's all we heard from her, even though we (and there are 4 of us siblings plus grandchildren) had been there all-day Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. I would think a standard of care would be for the leadership to know when a resident is transitioning and at least one member would round daily on the resident and to check with the family. Ten days before he passed, clearly, he was unsteady. We had ordered a floor alarm mat but it had not been delivered. He was still getting out of bed on his own and had fallen again, sliding down the bed. Thankfully after this fall, Sacred Journey had ordered and installed the bed alarm. We were so impressed with the facility and especially the staff--we really hated to leave, but his health situation made it necessary. I wanted to share how fabulous the staff at Arbor is. We NEVER had a negative experience with anyone there. The maintenance folks, dining staff, housekeeping, front desk folks, drivers, and management are all good at what they do and seem to really care about the residents--creating a family atmosphere. It is rare to find a place where everybody values the residents while being effective at their work. Arbor Terrace is that place. The price is high but it is all inclusive and really has a family atmosphere. There are many activities, food is quality, wine included if wanted, transportation, comfortable roomy apartments, nice pool. A really nice place for seniors who need a bit of help.
