Our son flew from Las Vegas to Hawaii to attend the Winter 2025, Home Plate Hawaii baseball camp, and it was an incredible experience. He took part in a variety of drills, worked with awesome coaches, learned new skills, and competed in a scrimmage. Coach Matt and his staff were outstanding, and we even got to meet University of Hawaii head coach Rich Hill, as well as Andy Archer from the Savannah Bananas. Just had our first session with Coach Matt. Really had no idea what to expect, and quite frankly was hesitant to get a "batting coach" for my 7yr old - I mean...that kind of stuff is for older kids right?! But my boy has been struggling at bat, and not for lack of extra reps and practice. We upgraded equipment, bought equipment to work at home, put in daily time - but no significant improvement. It started affecting his self-esteem on the field and in the dugout. That first lesson we learned a lot of valuable info and adjustments based on HIS natural swing. Matt was an exceptional communicator with my kiddo being young, and my boy both absorbed and enjoyed his lesson. Not all great coaches are able to coach and effectively communicate with the little ones - but Matt was great. Coach Matt is AMAZING and definitely worth every penny! He is so good at breaking things down and explaining how to do things for my son. What I love is that he uses video to show kids their progress. He will take a before video, break down how to do something, practice it, provide feedback to improve, then show after videos. He watches the videos with the kid and shows them the progress. He is also SO positive, motivating and encouraging. I know that sometimes baseball coaches are really tough on kids but coach Matt pushes kids in a positive way. They WANT to do well for him because he's so encouraging. He notices when kids start to get frustrated and talks them down from it, which is awesome! I notice immediate improvement in my son's hitting in only 1 session. Our first interaction with Matt was through a baseball clinic he put together to fundraise for Waipio Built baseball - giving back to the community! Matt has a calm/chill style and gets on the player's level. He explains the purpose of the drill, keeps their focus by quizzing the kids during the drill and gets feedback on how the kids feel after the drill. He adjusts according to the player's skill level.
