I also have been struggling with the toilet tank "guts" thanks to Martinsburg's hard water. I'd bought a new faucet and parts for the toilet, but after watching YT and assessing my space and my own abilities...chose to hire someone. Mark of Mountain View Plumbing gave me a quote based on labor/time for each of these. He's the owner/operator...something I like to support when I can. We scheduled for 9am, he called as he was arriving EARLY! Two hours and both problems fixed with parts I had bought to do it myself. He even fixed my tub/shower diverter stem I was starting to have issues with. We discussed a few hacks to get some more life out of the toilet as hard water is doing what it does. I then asked about my kitchen sink/drain and he verified that I can get RO and a disposal into that space. Now I just need to budget! As for his hourly rate, it is totally fine for skilled and licensed labor. He didn't nickel and dime for the little things he used (tape, etc). I appreciate that. I also know as a former business owner, he's covering travel costs, insurances, taxes, etc. with that rate. I will be using him for more projects as my own budget permits.

We were able to hire a plumber of our choice but had to get an invoice and wait for approval before work could begin. If we went ahead with the work without approval, we would be on the hook for everything. Alex was extremely patient and understanding of our situation and while waiting for approval went above and beyond to stop the flooding and ensure no further flooding would occur until we got approval from the warranty company. He stayed until he was sure we were out of the woods. Needless to say, he fixed our sump pump issue, and we haven't had any since. Since then, we unfortunately have had other issues with our plumbing and without hesitation he is the first and only person we call. Alex has pulled our fat out of the fire now on MULTIPLE occasions. He has come on short notice, at the end of his day when I know he would normally be going home because he knew we were in a bad situation and once stayed until 10pm because he was determined to find the issue and resolve it. He was also our go to when we wanted a water softener and house filter installed. He explained in detail and demonstrated how the system works and told us to call if we had any further questions. Last fall my second home developed a leak over the back porch. I contacted Angi's for…read morerecommendations and received five. I contacted all five of them for quotes and chose Shingler on the Roof. The first company that I contacted immediately assumed that the entire roof would need to be replaced, before seeing it. They went out to assess the situation and provided me with a quote that was far more than I had anticipated. I then contacted the other four and found a wide divergence between them, both in terms of price and presentation of their quotes. When I contacted Shingler on the Roof, I liked that Mark did not immediately assume the entire roof would have to be replaced. However, following a site visit, he determined that it was the original roof and it was showing wear. He sent me several photos so I could see its deteriorating condition. He determined that it should be replaced and provided a quote that fell in the middle of the five. He was patient and responsive to my questions as I made a final decision. Once I committed to the job, we met at the house to go over a preliminary contract. Mark explained that the cost could be higher depending upon what he found under the original shingles. He and his crew fit me into their schedule fairly quickly. Once they started the project, Mark kept me appraised of their progress on the job. As it turns out, there was considerable damage under the old shingles. Once again, Mark provided photos which showed the severe damage. I felt fortunate for the original leak because I could have had a far worse situation if the roof had not been replaced. Mark and his team did an excellent job and cleaned up the site after they finished. The roof looks great and I would highly recommend Shingler on the Roof. [They are licensed and insured.] I wish I had before and after pictures but unfortunately I can't locate them.

Not all roofing companies have your best interest in mind. As a matter of fact, some like High…read morePoint Roofing have proven they are more interested in getting a new roof and commission rather than an honest assessment of an existing roof. My house was on the market, and the buyer wanted a roof inspection and called High Point Roofing. I had no problem with the inspection and personally have over 40 years of construction experience. The report came back that there was one missing shingle, exposed nail heads on the ridge vent, rubber cracking on pipe vent, two popped nails on garage section, discoloration on front slop shingles and some granular loss as found in guttering (these repairs were simple and would take no more than one hour to repair). This 23-year-old roof expert concluded that the 30-year architectural shingle that was approximately 23 years old only had a "maximum of 1-2 Years Left of Life" and that the roof needed replaced (Notice the caps used to demand attention and generate fear). In all of my years of dealing with inspectors I have never had one offer such a precise life expectancy, only High Point Roofing. Needled to Say the Buyer wanted a new $20,000.00 roof at the Sellers expense. I'm perfectly fine with fixing problems when necessary and needed. In this case it was an egregious attempt to put on new roof that wasn't necessary. I called Antony Regalbuto one of the owners, about his inspector and report. He reported key problems that are often indicators of a roof in decline that an inspector would identify. He noted specifically that often such roofs have fiberglass exposed and bubbling shingles which can include moisture problems and/or poor ventilation in the attic. I agreed with him that both were indicators of a bad roof. I then asked Anthony, if his 23-year-old roof inspector identified in his report such failures and he was silent. He was silent because they didn't exist. In the end Anthony protected his employee. I'm sure Anthony will dispute my report and if so I have written documentation in hand to corroborate my statement. I also have a few billboards that I can offer caution and direct potential customers to another roofing company. I'm very disappointed with the High Point Roofing and a young man that tried for a big commission on my dime. I did not identify the young man intentionally as I hope he learns a lesson from this experience Clark Struebing
