A level of service i did not know existed in the Medical field…read more Having recently been diagnosed with several unrelated medical issues, in the last 3 weeks i have visited 10 different medical facilities, the most recent one being Mater Imaging. Before i continue this review I feel compelled to assure the reader (and myself for that matter) that this is a once in a life time anomaly, and hanging out in Medical Clinics is not on my bucket list! I am glad that my visit to The Mater was not one of my first experiences, as it would have left me severely disappointed at every other clinic because it felt a lot more like visiting a Health Spa than a Radiologist. The first significant difference was the lighting and decor. From the seating to the art work the waiting room felt very much like a 5 star hotel lobby, and the greeting i was given at reception followed suit. After being warmly welcomed I was told about the location of amenities should I need them, offered a seat, and settled in for what i believed would be a good 15 minute minimum wait, as despite always having an appointment this seems to be norm in Medical Practices. After being seated for less than a minute a lovely lady approached me, confirmed my name and explained that she would be one of several people looking after me during my visit. She went on to explain that my friend was welcome to come in with me during the treatment as my comfort during the procedure was their priority. Having only ever experienced having my name shouted across a crowded waiting room, this experience was incredibly reassuring and immediately put me at ease. Once in the room this level of service and care continued throughout the entire procedure. All three staff who attended were genuinely delightful and caring, and demonstrated exceptional skill. At no stage did my friend or I feel excluded from the process they undertook, and at every stage I was informed of what was being done and why, and reminded that at any time I could ask for time out and they would happily comply. Even at the checkout process I was served by a really helpful and friendly receptionist who gave me precise timelines about results so that I knew exactly when my Specialist would be able to update me. Up until this week I have genuinely believed that one Imaging centre is the same as the next, and now I know just how wrong I was. I may live 60 or more Kilometres away from Mater Imaging but I know for certain that from now on they are the only Imaging Centre I will visit, as they are truly outstanding!

If I was a sports commentator I'd be calling this one a game of two halves ("and, y'know, the boys…read moregave 110% out there, they left it all out on the paddock, the boys really worked hard for each other, I'm real proud of the boys. Shame we lost. PS: the boys.") I got referred here from the physiotherapy biz next door for an MRI on my shoulder. When I'd called to make the appointment they'd advised me that with a reference from a sports physiotherapist I was entitled to no rebate. Fair enough, forewarned is forearmed. But when I turned up a different girl told me that if I'd brought a referral from a sports *physician* I COULD have got a rebate. Great. If I'd known that a week ago I would have got one. Here, take my money. Appointment was at 9, sat patiently til 10am listening the the receptionists talk about how many bourbons you're allowed on a Jeststar flight to Queensland, which annoyed the pants off me considering they'd just cost me a whole bunch of dough. To be fair, it must suck that everyone can hear your gossip if you're a receptionist, but still. Little things. Once I was out back it was a different story, and the professionalism shown by the licensed medical practitioners here was exemplary. Getting an MRI is pretty disconcerting what with the big alien machine and the weird noises and the claustrophobia etc, but the dude running it was super efficient. And then the radiologist who looked at my scans, Dr Linklater, was everything you wanted in a doctor - reassuring, patient, informative, with a sense of humour. Just wish he'd given me better news! Surgery here we come. Damn.

When you need a healthy blast of radiation, accept no substitutes…read more Got a referral to get mah spine x-rayed (hooray!) from a chiropractor (that I subsequently gave the ol' "dude it's not you, it's me" to) so I lobbed up here right before Christmas and done got my bones zapped. They show you to a little room where you get nekkid and throw in a black tissue-paper robe that makes you look like some kind of massage ninja and then you step into the magic room and a lady tells you different ways to stand while a robot with x-ray vision perves on you and takes happy snaps. Then you sit in the waiting room like a blue-walled purgatory for your results, and cough up some cash and ideally a Medicare card, because they don't bulk bill and aren't a member of HICAPS.

They asked when I was free to come in, I said I'm 10 minutes away, is there any chance I could come in now? They helpfully said they could probably squeeze me in. I got there quick smart, and they did indeed fit me in. That meant I didn't have to book another appointment, and didn't have to take any more time off work. Nice!

Be very careful of this organisation. Make sure you get a full quote for the proposed service up…read morefront! They lie and say that they have provided you a full quote, then you get an unexpected bill for more than $1,000... then they take your Medicare card, and don't process the service against it - then they claim you did not give them the card to start with - so you end up with having to foot the entire charge and make a claim on Medicare. I would find an alternative private practice - there are many more with better business practices and higher ethical values.

Guess when it's less than a week from Xmas, places like this could be slow! This location is great. Kiaora Place has covered parking, first hour free(!), and is steps away from the spanking brand new library,lots of cafes, shops and, of course, a huge Woolworth's! Medscan is on the top floor near the library. Medscan is beautiful and very clean. The staff are very accommodating and so friendly! Like, I almost want to go there just to hang out! Any imaging you need can be done in the hub of Double Bay! You're welcome!
