Yet, that is exactly where we found Geranium. We arrived by taxi at Parken, home to F.C. Copenhagen and the Danish national football team. Waiting for us were two gentlemen who greeted us and directed us toward the elevator. It was a rather unexpected beginning to what would become one of our most memorable dining experiences. As the elevator doors opened on the 8th floor, everything changed. Gone was the feeling of being inside a football stadium. Instead, we entered a beautiful, serene dining room overlooking the treetops of Fælledparken. Geranium calls it "Dinner in the Canopy." With all of their accolades, I could not say that I did not expect a lot. After all, they've earned three medals in the Bocuse d'Or competition (one of each: bronze, silver and gold), three Michelin stars and the ever-so-coveted World's Best Restaurant in 2022 by The World's 50 Best Restaurants. We were in for a treat, but just not knowing the level at which that excellence would reach. We were led to our beautiful, circular table of light-colored wood and stone and to a fabulous view of the open kitchen. As we looked around us, it seemed that most were dressed in business casual. We weren't too sure about the dress code, so we dressed up a bit and absolutely felt at home. The staff were immaculate in their service and presentation. On the table was an upright envelope, held in place by a slotted wooden piece. Nearby were scissors resting on a napkin atop a wooden plate. With the scissors, we revealed the contents of the envelope--the menu. This was a fabulous interactive touch, filling the evening with even more excitement and mystique. My husband decided to choose our own wines for the evening. We usually go with the wine pairing, but he was feeling daring and adventurous. When the Sommelier brought us the wine list, I must have gasped, as it was the largest wine list I had ever seen. It was not a book; it was a novel at nearly 300 pages! With the expert assistance of the Sommelier, my husband chose some wonderful wines and finished our meal off with an ice wine. We dined during their Winter Universe menu. The dishes were beautifully plated and presented with such precision. Just when I thought I had experienced something so wonderful, the next dish would arrive and surpass the former. I was completely delighted with everything: the food, wine, service, pacing and atmosphere. Just when I thought that things could not get any better, we were invited to take a tour of the wine cellar, private rooms displaying a fun portrait of Chef Rasmus Kofoed and Søren Ledet (co-owners of Geranium), a display case with the three Bocuse d'Or statues and the open kitchen. Their wine cellar is astonishing and could have its own separate review. At the time, they housed Dominus (1991, 2007, 2015), Château Margaux (2008) and a Château Mouton Rothschild (1982), to mention a few in a sea of bottles! Upon returning to our table, we enjoyed multiple sweet bites uniquely presented along with a lace-like edible botanical centerpiece of delicate gold Jerusalem-artichoke to resemble leaves and flowers. Our dining extravaganza was over four and a half hours (make it closer to five hours if you include our time chatting with the manager up front). Time flew by as we indulged in the most amazing meal I've ever experienced. We're so fortunate to have been able to dine here and will take these memories with us. I can't eat fish so I had the vegetarian menu and I don't feel I missed a thing. I can hardly remember all the courses but there are photos below - each was delicious and the standout for me was the truffle soup. A delicious vegetable broth filled with truffles that was like heaven on earth. Maybe the single most delicious dish I've ever eaten in my life. We sat near the kitchen preparation area and loved watching them prepare the dishes, and also had a great kitchen tour. Service was charming and attentive and the servers selected amazing wines to go with the meal. This will go down for me as one of the top three meals I've ever eaten, along with Atelier Crenn and Quince. Zuchinni basil, zuchinni sauce - Delightful dish. Very flavorful. Zuchinni was all warm and easy to cut. Very fleshy almost like meat. Fruit juice was basically a palette cleanser prepping my mouth for the same experience over and over. Blueberry and pine honey - reminds me of being in nature. Strong smell of pine. Sweet blueberry aftertaste. This was an amazing juice by itself. Dill with cuts of lamb - interesting dish that came with a contrasting dish made of white radish, sheep yogurt and dill vinegar. Almond milk cheese apricot basalmic sauce. Cracker from waste of almond milk pulp. Cracker was not too crunchy. Almond milk cheese was fantastic. Thick and a little rougher, but very almonds. They used some cheese culture to make it so it's not vegan. Birch tea and earl grey tea - strong earl taste. Heavy on the tongue. Chervil and dandelion juice pairing. Parfait - currant, meringue, rose. Creamy and sweet from the currant. Juice pairing was a good neutralizer for the sweetness.

Then the five courses commenced with hamachi with cloud berries, a cucumber rose, pasta, beef and dessert. In between the cucumber rose and pasta came a small load of warm bread with currant butter. Each dish was flawlessly presented. The winner was the dessert- bee pollen and cocoa butter mousse, seabuck thorn gel and star anise ice cream with a buckwheat tuille. It was so unique and each flavor brought out the best in the next. 2) Drinks: The women curated the wine told the story behind each wine from different parts of Italy. You order and pay at the counter. The lunch menu consists primarily of sandwiches and soup, the sandwiches either a variety of open-faced smørrebrød or a selection of other sandwiches. The very helpful man behind the counter described the smørrebrød and I chose one that had roast pork and red cabbage. Alan decided on a vegetable sandwich w/o the pesto, sun dried tomatoes and pickled ingredients. We both ordered hot tea, which was served in tall glasses. Both came w/ a tiny package of dark Belgian chocolate, which meant I had both since Alan doesn't eat chocolate. Score! The restaurant has an inviting corner w/ two wingback chairs flanking a bookcase. There's a bar w/ high chairs facing out the window and 6 or 7 normal height tables and chairs, most for 2, a couple for 4. The walls are hung w paintings of local scenes. Our sandwiches arrived and mine had several thin slices of moist roast pork gracefully draped over a piece of Danish whole grain bread, the red cabbage spread on one side and a smattering of coins of slightly sweet pickles garnishing it further. A few people came in while we were there, some to eat in, some to visit and some to take out. When we left our host opened the door to facilitate our getting down the stairs readily.
