I kinda got lost and ended up in the vicinity awaiting to rendezvous with a group of friends, of course, I was early and to kill some time, I stopped at a quaint and aesthetically appealing gray building with well manicured facade. Lo and behold, as you come in, what welcomes you is the serene ambiance of almost "home", minus the smell of home cooking or popcorn. The place is packed with very tastefully curated items from handcrafted "reclaimed lumber" to Villeroy & Boch and other very interesting finds. Even the bathroom which I perused after a long drive looked great and well appointed. The young lady at the counter was very pleasant and cordial. The very dapper looking gentleman (I presumed is the owner) was very attentive and hands on with his assistance on the product I was interested in. He answered all my questions and seemed really knowledgeable. Though quite a distance from home, it will be goodbye to the mall at Short Hills and hello to The Homestead at Princeton when it's time to redecorate. Pricing ranges from expensive to affordable. Well, depending on your taste, budget and aesthetics The place gave me the shivers (positive). If I was a leaf, I would be shaking. The place is marvelous. Coming out of a recent doctor's appointment next door, I decided to check out Homestead, not really knowing what to expect. The outside is very dark and exudes an enigmatic, upscale vibe leading me to conclude that they either trade in $1,500 pieces of decorative driftwood or... some incredibly unique home furnishings and bespoke design services. The truth is - probably both. Needless to say I was intrigued. The focus of the store runs the design gamut but features a very modern take on minimalist design which is my thing and had me wondering how many convenience stores I'd have to knock over to buy my way in. Seriously, Homestead is a one of a kind in the area meaning, I'll have return with my better half to browse and partake. Uniqueness and style is always a winner. Five easy stars. We have purchased quite a few pieces from Ron and his team at Homestead and been impressed with each and every one. From the design process, to the delivery, Homestead never disappoints. Recently, we purchased a bedroom set (custom bed and nightstands and rug). We met with the design team with a picture of what we had in mind and they truly delivered. Also, the delivery team was AWESOME! They did everything the right way, even moving my rug around about five different times until it was JUST right. I really appreciated them taking the time to get it exactly how I wanted it and did not bat an eye :) Another thing that always stands out to me is that the employees at Homestead work with what you need - they never push. No matter the budget, they'll meet you where you are. We have bought things at all different price points and have been satisfied with everything. Absolutely unique and lovely store. A nice little find walking down in the less touristy retail part of Princeton. Lots of wonderful, cute pieces love the unique items as you will find the most boutique stores but the prices were not totally unreasonable and the service and owner was absolute delight. I bought two items both for gifts. They remove the price tags and wrapped them impeccably with beautiful paper and bows in a nice box with the logo on it. My friends absolutely love the unique items from the store. Definitely will be coming back. Worth the drive off the main path of Princeton to check out Homestead. read more

I love this shop. We bought our bed, dining table and two rugs from this store. The customer service is great. We custom designed our bed frame and our table with the help of the designer at the store, (who came to our house to measure for everything before we bought it which was super helpful). When the bed-frame was delivered, I felt that it wasn't the right size. I contacted the store and they fixed it and delivered the perfect bed frame ASAP. Our pieces are made from repurposed barn-wood which makes it not only beautiful but special. I really can't say enough about how much I love this place. It's a great place to buy gifts too, especially for those that are hard to shop for! At this point we've had a few items purchased through Homestead. Every time honestly I'm thrilled with the customer service. The quality of the items are amazing. We love the bed, the dining table and the rugs that we've purchased from Homestead. My wife and I stopped in today after picking up my watch that was being repaired at Hamilton Jewelers (they are Top Notch). After walking around, we decided to purchase 3 new masks. We were rung up and they accidentally charged $1243 to my card! No prob, mistakes happen, however no one knew how to fix it. They called the owner, who was unreachable, and wanted me to leave my info and they would "fix it". Nope. We wind up waiting 20 + mins till the owner happen to walk in. He fixed the issue, reversed the charge and then re-rang up our order which totaled $37.96. After we left we both said we won't go back, but as we talked about the experience on the way home, we realized what poor customer service it was to not at least offer a discount. We never asked for one and something as small as 5% would have been sufficient after THEY screwed up and had no way to fix it, till the the owner came back. He didn't even recognize the inconvenience and the poor taste this experience left with us. I even thought about going back tomorrow and returning the 2 unopened masks (we live about 40 mins away) but then saw the receipt says returns for store credit only. Won't be shopping there again. read more

Whenever my friends and I are in Princeton, we make a point of going to The Farmhouse Store. Their inventory is fantastic - anything from furniture (they have shelves that fold into a wooden table which is awesome) - to candles, lotions, serving platters, jewelry, home accessories. A great place to shop for a unique gift for someone. It's worth it just to see the store itself - the merchandise is always tastefully displayed. You could literally spend a half hour there looking at everything! Over Memorial Day weekend, my friends and I were in the store and I tried on a ring I loved but didn't purchase. I immediately regretted my decision the next day. I called the store, and Kristin (one of the owners) along with her staff, found the ring (sent me photos to verify if it was the one I tried on) and within a week, my ring arrived in a beautiful box with a note. That's what I call a class act! I'm looking forward to returning to the store soon. The owners (Ed and Kristin) were very welcoming and the staff is very accommodating, professional and friendly. Homestead is a store I used to visit each time I traveled home to visit family. There were so many things I enjoyed about it. However, we've experienced very disappointing customer service regarding a poorly constructed Dash and Albert rug we purchased several months ago. At the time, we were in the middle of a large renovation at our home in Massachusetts. The rug was drop shipped and put into storage for a few months before we were able to move back into the house. The rug was finally placed in our family room where much of it is covered by furniture. In a short time, we noticed extreme wear and tear in one section of the rug. The woven fibers began to take on a frayed look, obscuring the design of the rug and making it look much older than it is. Naturally, we contacted Homestead, who initially appeared to be very interested in helping us solve this problem. We sent pictures and communicated via phone and email. In the end, their reply was that as the retailer they can only stand behind their product for 30 days, which seems like a short time for a product like a rug, and that Dash and Albert also subscribes to the same policy. We were also advised in proper rug care, which I assure you was what we were doing and still continue to do to preserve whatever life this rug still has. We don't vacuum the rug with the beater brush, but use only suction, and yet the fraying still continues to not only be a problem, but is becoming worse. Homestead also advised us to take the rug outside and hose it down as a means to reduce the fraying, which if the rug was not 10 ft x 14 ft, or I not 8.5 months pregnant, "might" be realistic, but even if those conditions were not present, it doesn't seem like a viable option. How does one do such a thing? Taking a large rug outside to rinse with a hose would seemly create more problems in quality, not to mention logistics, while doing nothing to correct the fraying. With water weighing roughly 8 lbs. per gallon, I'm sure we'd need to procure a forklift in order to hang and maneuver a saturated and still likely fraying rug. The rug has been in our home for less than 6 months and we are now in the position to purchase a new rug for our family room because the current state of our Dash and Albert rug is embarrassing. Additionally, we feel strongly that if we lived in Princeton rather than Massachusetts, we would have received better customer service from Homestead. However, we still have many friends and family in the area who will certainly hear about our disappointing experience with this store. read more

Kristin and Ron, I am sending this email as an unsatisfied customer and want to add that I am highly offended by the comments in the report. The report we received from Miles Talbott stated: "When asked if they ever turned/rotated or fluffed their cushions, their response was yes, but clearly they have not. Also, there is the issue of the very~very large dog that has claimed that sectional as his bed." Now, let me clarify. Is she saying I lied when I replied that the cushions are turned/rotated??? Did she also include in her report that I showed her my Ethan Allen sofa that is 5 years older than the one in question and that those cushions are rotated the same way?? Maybe the fact that the sofa looks the way it does is because it's failing! In addition, my "very-very large dog" that she never saw does not claim this sectional as his bed!!! She was told and shown that he lays in one corner of the sectional (and not even the corner w/the major problem) at night when we are all in there. My furniture is not a dog bed. And that corner where he lays is covered w/a blanket 100% of the time. For the record, my dog is 125 lbs. He weighs less than my husband, myself and my daughter and he has a dog bed on the floor in my office where he spends most of his time. Did the MT rep also include that "she hates this sofa and it's not up to par w/the other sofas MT carries," and the she "doesn't understand why you sell it." But then again she also when on to say that "Ron sells about 1 a week so there's your answer." It's about the money. Let me also remind you that when we were looking at the sofa initially, Ron told us that your own dog and kids "jump all over it" and it holds up. Wow. Maybe the MT rep would tell you to put a trampoline in your back yard and get your own dog a bed. As to the locking mechanism - ask your delivery men how long it took them to lock it in place. Then ask them if they were successful. The answer is no! It's a horrible system. Look at a higher end sectional and see how it locks at the top and bottom. This MT system looks like a paper clip and works even worse. It never held together. This entire process was a "cover-your-ass" circus and I really don't appreciate it. I also don't appreciate your excuses. If this is your idea of customer service then you should stay a gift shop. We knew that the sofa was "more relaxed" however this is disgusting to me. I do not accept your reply as a customer. As a business owner, I am extremely disappointed in the way you've handled it and basically all we've received as a barter are a couple of Uncle Buck pillows, an area rug and a coffee table. read more

Princeton Location: Who knows if the store has good products or not because I walked out just after I walked in. I felt like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman when she walked into the dress shop and was treated rudely. If you look like you have money, the staff will smile and say hello to you just as the gentleman near me was greeted hello. When they saw me, they looked away. I am sure I am more educated then both of the female workers and that I earn more money then both of them put together (not hard to do bc retail pays pretty badly). Too bad the woman are not educated enough to understand the power of social media. Twitter would be my next stop, but this company does not have the understanding to be part of Twitter and the woman most likely do not understand how it works anyway. I guess Facebook is my only possible other option, unless they have to approve posts. read more

This place is so full of WIN, I don't even know where to start! Great furnishings and gifts at very reasonable prices. The customer service was also great. Paula let me bombard her with a million questions and never made me feel rushed. There are so many great local and university related goodies, from pillows to cups to signs that it would be easy for a Princeton native to go crazy in here. A beautiful store, but aTERRIBLE RETURN POLICY!. I recently visited this store, and purchased a seasonal decor figurine that wasn't cheap. I went home, and realized it wasn't what I wanted for my home, and immediately, within 24 hours went back for a refund to my credit card. I was amazed when they told me it is policy to give store credit only. I did see a small sign at the register stating this when I returned, but I didn't notice it during the purchase the day before, and they never mentioned the policy to me! I was brand new to the store! I understand they don't want people using things and trying to return them, but this is a home decor store. Sometimes even if it is something like a pillow, you want to take it home and see how it works in your home. Now I am stuck with store credit there. Suckered into to purchasing something from them again. Not happy :( read more

I stop in to look around for a unique gift for my wife for her birthday. I was in my work clothes which trend on the work with your hands kind of look. The two ladies working there just ignored me. Which In turn was just fine because everything thing in this store is so over priced you would be a fool to buy anything. There are plenty of other family own business in the area that treat you with respect and that are not completely over priced. I would not recommend this snotty store to anyone for any reason. I have forever been obsessed with this place- the merchandise and the barn wood furniture is absolutely to die for! With the recent expansion into the place next door, The Farmhouse Store is offering more items then ever and I feel myself staying in the store longer and longer each time! My only complaint is I find that the staff has gotten less friendly over the years. My most recent visits the staff has not greeted me or asked me any questions- I have noticed that a few of the workers tend to avoid any customers by constantly cleaning... even though there are a thousand customers in the store (or so it seems). The outside of the this shop caught my eye, but when I walked inside I was completely taken back by their lack of customer service. It was terrible. 2 employees were standing right by the door when I walked in, but I was ignored ENTIRELY while walking in, and through the store. For some reason they spoke to every other shopper except for me? And they were not busy at all when I came in. First let me start off saying that I absolutely loved the store. The layout, the merchandise - everything was splendid; I could have bought everything! However, the biggest reason that I (and members of my family) did not buy anything during my visit was the fact that one of the employees was out right following my sister, my aunt and I throughout the store. Wherever we went inside the store this employee, was no less than five feet away from us the entire twenty minutes that we were in the store. I completely understand the need to have employees monitor the store in order to ward off stealing, but this type of monitoring was over the line. Instead of enjoying my time in the store, I literally felt nauseous the entire time. I have never been subjected to this type of monitoring - it made me feel like a common criminal. Once out of the store my family expressed the same sentiments. Even though I loved the store and its products, I am never going to return because of this treatment and humiliation that I experienced; I would never recommend it to my friends. read more

Ok, so, gotta' say, as a Dude, this is not my typical place to shop, but having said that, walking through Princeton yesterday afternoon, the was a sign outside the place that said "Best Store Ever" - well that resulted in my having to check it out. I was immediately greeted by Karen who I challenged with "OK prove it...," (best store). I walked around just window shopping and had a great time with ready gag gifts, cards, etc. They have some fun products made from old wooden items off of farms and who knows where. Lots of furniture as well. This place is truly a good place to go to find a gift for someone that has everything and hard to buy for. We were very happy with our experience with The Farmhouse Store in Princeton. They have a great deal where their designer will design your first room for free. Their designer Karin was super. She came out to our house, measured everything, discussed our preferences and style choices, and put together a great design. We met a second time to review fabric and rug choices and Karin even helped with the small details like throw blankets and pillows. The room is fabulous and I get lots of compliments. Also, the store just opened up an adjacent furniture/design center and they provide 3D drawings so you can really see how the room will look. The owners were very nice and hands on. This is a very professional operation and I highly recommend them! read more

Went in yesterday for first time. Loved the products, and when I asked if they had a bathroom the male salesperson was very nice and directed me to it. I asked a few questions about a sofa and a rude saleswoman in the furniture fabric area pretended to ignore me. I didn't buy anything, but there were a couple things I wanted. Slept on it and went back again today. I used the bathroom as I just came from lunch and was in a hurry. The rude saleswoman in the fabric area said, "she was here yesterday. What do they just come to use the bathroom?" I proceeded to purchase what I came for, but they really didn't deserve my business. Paula at the checkout counter was extremely friendly. But since I don't like being bullied in a store, I'll buy my $3,000 sofa someplace else. I've done a lot of my shopping in Palmer Square over the last six years. I've always remarked at what a friendly town Princeton is - both the shops and the people in town. They really need to do something about this saleswoman because she is chasing customers away! read more
